North garden fence was getting old. Buster must have stuck his head through the gate after grass & got caught up in it. He has a small scrape. He needed more reassuring he wasn't in trouble than medical attention.

EUMETSAT is the view from east of the Atlantic.

They had GOES-8 though decommissioned was parked over FL, CONUS & such. NASA was using it, saw it acting up earlier this year. Checked it. The propulsion system is shot & it's gone too...

Here's the better polar orbiting site. CIMSS directs you to jump through hoops.

GOES-14 has a maybe little clearer view off the east coast. Wow.. MIRIAM.

GOES-13 is down..it was having trouble the other day...GOES-15 is being used from FL to the west.

srqthymesage~There was a link to more pet astrology. I'm surprised how much less I use my books these days.

My cat is alright with rock even if I'm playing it on my flute but is completely over the Christmas music I've been practicing lately, especially the last of the shrill notes. Every cat I've had has had a different taste in music.

Guy~ I can't believe I missed that & I've heard of SAR. I wanna say that's what is stands for, like someone asked a while back..but I can't be sure.

Even if you put a support ticket in on Friday it could be Tuesday til you hear back. It looks like some sort of mistake or something.

TAURUS (Ap 20- May 20)

Taurus pets are known to be lazy ones. Some snacky food and a good music shall see them to be couch potatoes. They are particularly fond of soft music. They love a luxurious life just as their adult counterparts. They tend to put on some weight with age. They are fond of gentle and warm surroundings where they can while their time away. They do not give up a fight easily. Taurus pets love the best things in life.

sounds like my Himalayan (no birth data)...she pouts when i listen to rock....and leaves the room after looks
She's been ruling here for 7+ years. Long time ago, i had a book on pet astrology - like much more, gone under the bridge.

Do to this year's horrid drought the food brokers are gathering up extra sweets to sell to the the highest bidders in the dairy feedlot business...to feed the dairy cows.

In the mix are cookies, gummy worms, marshmallows, fruit loops, orange peels, even dried cranberries. Cattlemen are feeding virtually anything they can get their hands on that will replace the starchy sugar content traditionally delivered to the animals through corn.

Guy~ HaHa...I would have thought it was for the so nerdy almost sad put down (& I'm probably not remembering this right)..fake aperture radar guy?
Gotta correct the record...that was "Synthetic Aperture Radar", or SAR. The nerdy part is that when I see SAR I cannot help but to think of "Synthetic Aperture Radar", and seeing an apparent acronym in a persons handle I mostly assumed that they were a big fan of SAR. The sad part is when I think about it more clearly it is far more likely that SAR is somebody's initials, Sandra Ann Richardson maybe, or it could be something completely different, like Stanford Accelerator Research, I just don't know. I put a ticket in to admin asking for a quote of the passage I wrote that resulted in the ban, but they never bothered to reply.

"Venus, as imaged by the Magellan probe using SAR"

OK, I'll catch ya' later.

Austrian Analemma
Image Credit & Copyright: Robert Pölzl

Explanation: Today, the Sun crosses the celestial equator heading south at 14:49 Universal Time. An equinox (equal night), this astronomical event marks the first day of autumn in the northern hemisphere and spring in the south. With the Sun on the celestial equator, Earth dwellers will experience nearly 12 hours of daylight and 12 hours of darkness. To celebrate, consider this careful record of the Sun's yearly journey through southern Austrian skies. The scene is composed of images made at the same time each day, capturing the Sun's position on dates from September 29, 2011 through September 9, 2012. The multiple suns trace an intersecting curve known as an analemma. In fact, the past year's two equinox dates correspond to the middle (not the intersection point) of the curve. The summer and winter solstices are at the top and bottom. Of course, many would also consider it a good idea to travel the mountain road toward the left, passing the vineyards along the way to reach the nearby town of Kitzeck and toast the equinox with a glass of wine. Near the roadside bench is a windmill-like klapotetz, traditionally used in this wine-growing region to keep the birds away.

Hey everyone.. Sorry to neglect my blog. I've tried to keep the entry updated. But busy week with seeing off Endeavour & all. Happy Fall y'all!

Hades thanks for keeping us up on Jelawat/Lawin. Got an alright TRMM pass of it yesterday.

Rob~ I had already thought about as an art subject. Thanks for confirming it as a good idea:)

Happy weekend & first day of Fall!

Guy~ HaHa...I would have thought it was for the so nerdy almost sad put down (& I'm probibly not remembering this right)..fake aperture radar guy?

I've got more than great memories now, I got some 1/2 decent pics too!

It wasn't like the bawling of one exploding but yeah, no dry eyes.

LowerCal~ Thanks!! & that comment to wabit totally refers to you..thanks for the encouragement & tips in documenting the space program.

Finn~ HeHe that's so funny about her birth date! I couldn't help but fetch a little pet astrology..

Good morning Sky.
Nice to see your comment on the Northern Edge.
My father truly was a brave man, he volunteered as soon as war was declared in 1939 but never entered the fight until the invasion of Sicily.

LOL, Skye, I got banned today, first time ever.

I got tired of those weather mod nuts spamming the main blog so I wrote that they needed to identify the chemical that was being used, how much and where it was being manufactured.

Then I quoted Carl Sagan with a goofy add-on:

Extraordinary Claims Require Extraordinary Proof or it's get out of town, clowns.

When I wrote that I really did mean it in an "in general" way but I got banned for "personal insult". Well-deserved for silliness if nothing else I suppose.

Hi Skye - I was harvesting my Moringa pods today so I took a photo before harvest of two trees planted side-by-side in a little island surrounded by my driveway in front of my house.

I have noticed there are two distinct varieties of Moringa oleifera in my yard. The one on the left I have called "Red" because the leaf stems are red or red-tinged, while the one on the right I call "White" because of the lighter green leaf stems and the profuse white flowering that lasted all summer. The pods on the Red are short and stubby, while the pods on the White are longer and much more numerous. On the other hand, the Red seems to produce more foliage, with more small and dense leaves. This is shown below, with the Red variety to the left and the White on the right.

The Red variety was Florida-sourced from seedlings and also grown from seeds of older established trees already in my neighborhood. The White variety was grown from seeds I obtained from a source in India. The trees are both three years old.

The Moringa oleifera is one of four Moringa species I have growing in my yard, the others are M. stenopetala, M. drouhardii, and M. hildebrandtii. Only the M. oleifera has flowered for me so far. Here is a link to an excellent guide to the species of the Moringa genus.

After harvesting the pods it is my intention to weigh the seeds and divide them into equal size portions, then try some different methods for extracting the seed oil. Supposedly the oil is excellent, competitive with olive oil in quality.

Fresh seeds are best for growing seedlings. If anyone reading this wants some free seeds, you can send me a self-addressed envelope with postage-paid first-class, then you can have some to sprout for yourself. PM me and we can arrange something.

Happy for you.
Watched it on TV. Amazing seeing the carrier strain it's way into the sky. Seems like forever between rotation and lift-off.

Would make a great subject for your art! (hint, hint)

Sure hope we do something that incredible again during my lifetime.

Update from KSC~
Endeavour On Its Way to California
Space shuttle Endeavour and the Shuttle Carrier Aircraft took off this morning from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida to begin the first leg of a mission to deliver the retired shuttle to Los Angeles where it will go on display.

The flight will be the last ferry flight of the space shuttle era, capping 35 years of shuttles riding atop modified 747s, counting the approach and landing tests conducted by Enterprise in 1977.

The aircraft combination, weighing some 475,000 pounds, flew over the Space Coast soon after taking off from Kennedy in a salute to the region that hosted the shuttles during 30 years of launches and landings. That will be a theme for the day as the SCA performs low-level flyovers of the Michoud Assembly Facility near New Orleans, Stennis Space Center in Mississippi, and Johnson Space Center in Houston, along with other city landmarks.

Endeavour was really incredible. I can't believe I'll never see another shuttle in the air again.

I think I got the malware gone. Thanks Guygee!

That was an excellent article:)
Good job tracking it down and removing it by hand, those little things are sneaky. Glad I could help at least a little. The development and spread of computer malware has passed on from the time of the individual 'hero' code hacker/crackers and is into the domain of governments and corporations for hire. It is expensive to continue to develop and spread these vicious little bugs. The group 'Anonymous' is the shiny counter-example that deflects our attention from this truth.

The one you squashed had obvious commercial value. Whoever wrote it was selling something, and I am glad you cut the flow off on your local neck of the tubez.

Oh, I know!

There has been somewhat of a break for you however. The piggyback takeoff has been rescheduled yet again to NET (no earlier than) Wednesday morning. The determination of the exact flight path is still pending though.

The decision on tomorrow's sunrise takeoff of the piggyback shuttle will be made at 5AM EDT based on the obstacle presented by 93L on the planned flightpath to Houston.

Doesn't sound too bad...if the pros have a fix then go with that, although nothing beats a clean install.

I am done with Microsoft as of a few weeks ago. I did not think it possible, but a worm actually bricked my hardware; an old laptop I had been using for years. The worm gave full control to an external invader, and at some point a virus was uploaded that flashed my BIOS and activated the Trusted Platform Manager (TPM). The BIOS now shows all zeros for the serial number, and "non-Vista" for the OS, although the OS was supplied OEM with Vista Home Basic. Now, essentially, the computer does not trust any of its drivers, and will not boot from the CD/DVD so I cannot even install Linux. I worked on it for days but every time I thought I was close the computer blue-screened then came back with the message: "No TPM or TPM has problems".

Moral of the story: Go into your BIOS and disable the flash feature if you can, and also make sure that TPM is off.
Wow! That is whole new level of nastiness. Sorry to hear of your misfortune but thanks for the heads up to the rest of us.
