Gilles-Eric Seralini, et al., "Long term toxicity of a Roundup herbicide and a Roundup-tolerant genetically modified maize", Food and Chemical Toxicology, Available online 19 September 2012, In Press, Corrected Proof
The full abstract and figures are currently available at the link above...most likely for a limited time only. Highlights are quoted below and for an introduction the first sentence of the abstract is included:
"The health effects of a Roundup-tolerant genetically modified maize (from 11% in the diet), cultivated with or without Roundup, and Roundup alone (from 0.1 ppb in water), were studied 2 years in rats."
Highlights
- A Roundup-tolerant maize and Roundup provoked chronic hormone and sex dependent pathologies.
- Female mortality was 2 - 3 times increased mostly due to large mammary tumors and disabled pituitary.
- Males had liver congestions, necrosis, severe kidney nephropathies and large palpable tumors.
- This may be due to an endocrine disruption linked to Roundup and a new metabolism due to the transgene.
- GMOs and formulated pesticides must be evaluated by long term studies to measure toxic effects.

Addendum
Here is a link to the full paper. The site is in French but if you scroll down just a bit you will see the page icons that you can click on to read the full paper page-by-page.
Also, Monsanto has issued it's own response to this paper. One of the contributors to the comments on RealClimate provided the link to Monsanto's response with this observation:
"I found Monsanto's response to Seralini et al. moved the goalpost from toxicity (which Seralini found) to "he didn't use the appropriate protocol to test for carcinogenicity" (which Seralini didn't claim - only tumors which is not the same as cancer or metastatic)."

Hades~ MJO isn't favoring the Bay of Bengal storm. Thanks for all the updates:)
Finn~ Congrats on having your book selected for buzzing! I'm not surprised, it's an excellent read.
Bogon~ I was awed by the cloudsat at the time. I can't remember if I posted it in Masters or not. That's neat that was also included in the link. Great documentation. Horrible storm.
guy~ considering Russia is taking issue immediately, there is going to be some backlash.. Thanks for bringing it for us to follow.
LowerCal~ Pretty great speech. I've seen first hand that job come home with them. Continued tinkering at home. Leaving for work at 2am because they wolk up in the middle of the night with the answer to saving the shuttle.
As for American grain crops farmers are sitting on their crops waiting for prices to peak. There is also no pressure to decide right away who to sell their wheat, durum and barley now that the Canadian Wheat Board no longer has a monopoly over the marketing of those grains.

September
Moon Names: Harvest Moon, Wine Moon, Singing Moon, Sturgeon Moon, Haligmonath (Holy Month), Witumanoth (Wood Month), Moon When Deer Paw the Earth.
September was the seventh month in the oldest Roman calendar. When other months were added to the seasonal calendar, the name for some reason was never changed. The Autumn Equinox was and is still celebrated by many cultures around the world. This month is the last of the reliable harvesting months in the Northern Hemisphere. Life is beginning to wind down in preparation for the dormant months that follow. The energy flows from the Autumn Equinox through Winter Solstice to the Spring Equinox are getting deeper, more hidden. The Dark Moon deities, who represent the Underworld, death, reincarnation, and deep spiritual mysteries, now hold sway.
The Egyptian Ceremony of Lighting the Fire was a general festival of lights for all the gods and goddesses. Lamps of all kinds were set in front of deity statues. They were also placed before the statues of ancestors. The Egyptian deity Thoth was the Lord of Holy Wards and inventor of the Four Laws of Magick. Portrayed as ibis-headed, Thoth was a Moon god. As Supreme Magus, or the Ultimate Magician, he had control over the powers and attributes of the Moon.
In the old Incan Empire, the Citua was held on the New Moon nearest the Autumn Equinox. Everyone performed a ritual cleansing, then smeared their faces with a paste of ground maize (corn). There followed several days of feasting and dancing. This was a Moon festival in honor of Mama Quilla, the Moon goddess.

Old Sayings & Lore
A verse: When the Moon is at the full, mushroom you can safely pull. But when the Moon is on the wane, wit ere you think to pluck again.
Sailors believed that if the Moon, in the first or last quarter, lay in nearly a horizontal position with the horns upward, the weather would be fine. Country people say that the same type of Moon means good weather for twenty eight days.
Country people said that the weather was more likely to change at the four quarters of the Moon that at any other time.
Rain is coming when the Moon has a halo around it or when an outline can be seen between the horns of a waxing or waning Moon.
One old legend says that on the Moon is everything that was wasted on Earth: mis-spent time, squandered wealth, broken vows, unanswered prayers, fruitless tears, unfulfilled desires and intentions, etc.
Guy~ That is awful about the seagulls..

Nice info again Skye, thanks!
I suppose my ears may also have been burning a bit. Hey pony gal :)
Cyber fairies???
"Plenty of the old beautiful tunes of Ireland are only their music, caught up by eavesdroppers. No wise peasant would hum "The Pretty Girl milking the Cow" near a fairy rath, for they are jealous, and do not like to hear their songs on clumsy mortal lips."...
My daughter still thinks of this book that I gave her as a child every time she hears the word fairies and to this day spells it "faeries" out of respect for those mischievous little critters.

Just saw the pic of the fence. If I was Buster, I'd have been hiding somewhere on the back 40.
Just thought it was about time I said "Hi, Skye!"
Louis~ I've been rooting for her too! Go Nadine!
Rob~ Buster was a sad, abused, starved pony I paid $400 more for than I should have, but I couldn't leave him.. I've had him a few years now, long enough he knows he doesn't have to cower from me. He got extra kisses that day..he's such a kiss loving pony.
Hades~ Thanks I've been busy
Shep~ :))

They are starting to move GOES-14 over toward the east.. Not looking good for GOES-13..
Details/Specifics of Change: In order to support users with better data
during the ongoing GOES-13 anomaly recovery, a GOES-14 East Drift Start
Maneuver will be performed today, Monday, October 1, 2012, at 1545 UTC.
GOES-14 is currently positioned at 105 degrees west, and upon the
maneuver, the eastward longitudinal drift will be initiated.
GOES-14 will
drift 0.90 degrees per day to the East towards the location of
GOES-13 at
75 degrees West.
Final location of GOES-14 is dependent upon the ongoing recovery of
GOES-13. During this transition, direct readout users can continue to
receive GOES-14 data via the GOES-13 GVAR broadcast stream from
75 degrees
West, and will not have to repoint their antennas to GOES-14. GOES-13
imager and sounder remain out of service at this time.
Location of frame boundaries of the satellite scanning sectors will be
adjusted every Wednesday at the 1900 UTC housekeeping period.
This will
cause a one time shift in the image and sounding frames each Wednesday.
GINI and Remapper output will be monitored to ensure optimal
coverage of
the CONUS for users of AWIPS and of the SATEPSDIST servers within ESPC.
Image Navigation and Registration (INR) is expected to remain within
specification during this drift period. For NWS operations, during this
time period, RSO (Rapid Scan Operations) will be available. No SRSO
(Super
Rapid Scan Operations) will be available.
On October 1, 2012 the following schedule will be employed to support
maneuver operations:
GOES-14 East Drift Start Maneuver Schedule begins at 1545 UTC on
October 1,
2012.
>From 1545 UTC through 1606 UTC -- GOES-14 No Scan Operations
There will be no GOES-15 (GOES-West) Full Disk (30 minute) Imaging.
There will be no recovery schedule for this maneuver.
1609 UTC -- GOES-14 Routine Scan Operations Resume.
Please note: Since post-maneuver attitude performance is expected to be
nominal, a special recovery schedule is not required, and the
6-hour INR
(Image Navigation Registration) recovery period will be supported by
Routine schedule.
