Garden~

When to plant what & how in Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Alabama.

June gardening in Florida is harvesting, keeping the weeds down & prepping it for summer. For some that maybe setting okra, watermelon, black eyed peas, some household gourds in the ground for a summer garden..others it's time to throw down a cover crop of black eyed peas, marigolds or sweet potatoes.. wish them luck & go on vacation.

North FL Lima Beans, southern peas (cow, black eyed), okra, eggplant, sweet potatoes.

Central FL okra, southern peas & sweet potatoes.

Tropical Cyclone Bulletin #6
TROPICAL STORM BUTCHOY (GUCHOL)
5:00 AM PhST June 16 2012
================================================

Tropical Storm "BUTCHOY" has maintained its strength and is now moving in a north northwestward direction.

At 4:00 AM PhST, Tropical Storm Butchoy (Guchol) located at 12.2°N 130.5°E or 480 km east northeast of Guiuan, eastern Samar has 10 minute sustained winds of 60 knots with gusts of 75 knots. The cyclone is reported as moving north northwest at 8 knots.

Additional Information
========================

All Public Storm Warning Signals are now lowered.

Estimated rainfall amount is from 15-25 mm per hour (heavy) within the 450 km diameter of the tropical storm.

Fishing boats and other small seacrafts are advised not to venture out into the seaboards of Luzon, Visayas and eastern Mindanao due to the big waves generated by the effects combined effects of Tropical Storm "BUTCHOY" and the southwest monsoon.

The public and the disaster coordinating councils concerned are advised to take appropriate actions and watch for the next bulletin to be issued at 11 AM today.

Had a great show too. Lastnight, on the 7th floor looking east over the river & barrier island (Indialantic & Melb Bch), can even see the ocean between hotels & condos. Before the sun set awesome storm clouds, frequent lightning. This morning was treated to a delayed sunrise as it had to rise above another baby storm. I saw 30% for today but I think it feels much riper for storms than that. Had a spritz on US1 this morning already.

Carlotta~ Nice eye..maybe starting rapid intensification..

Here's Dvorak # page. Down to 972mb.

Carlotta TRMM pass very large quicktime.
Just misses the eye but shows the heavy rain that is coming for MX.

Good Morning, unexpected lightning show a 4:30am. I like it. Sending good vibes from my tribe to yours.

They are here Rob..

Had a chance to look it all over. Last weeks forecast is looking good with Carlotta stealing the show in the EPAC...That area of interest is starting east of the Carolinas, should stay sheared but meander. Another should get going in the Caribbean. Maybe blob up on Sat & become a low Sunday. I expect it to be the stronger of the two. The moisture from Caribbean will be drawn over Cuba & islands by the sheared Carolina one. Much rain for there, west Mexico with Carlotta & much of the western portions of central America..

Hades~ Guchol is pretty wild looking.

Hey all..

Guy~ Nailed it..Thanks.

Finn~ Many thanks, I hope to WUndermail you soon.

Visitor~ always nice to see a lurker out. I did get to catch most of Phish the other night, Bonnarro. Usually it makes me feel better if..about what ever is going on. It was a pretty morbid show about accepting the circle of life..which I didn't want to hear right now..

Wab & Hades~ Keep the updates coming.

Insane derocho the other night across the SE. Saw that new Hurricane Hunters show (TWC)..pretty cool.

Looked at stuff lastnight. Not much change..like Wabit said..wait & see.

Good morning to you Skye - Best wishes for you and your family...the love in your family is the most important part of life, sometimes it takes work and patience to keep it, but never lose it because it may not grace your life again ever.

Like wanee, 'roo is a taper-friendly forum where the taper-freaks can show their N-thousand$ superhighfidelity microphones out in the open. Should be a lot of fine lossless recordings out there on the intertubz by now...get'em while the torrents are hot (yes those are legal recordings BTW, unless the band has an explicit policy stating otherwise).

Best Regards and Happy Growing!

Skyepony:

Hi, there. Although I am a member of this site, it's not very often that I post but "once in a while" I can't help myself!

First of all, I'd like to thank you for the laugh the other night re the HAIRCON. I can soooo sympathize with you on that end. Being a displaced Canadian living in the Virgin Islands, I have that same problem 365 days a year!

And secondly, I stumbled on the Bonnaroo Music Fest that you spoke of. I happened upon it while Bon Iver was playing. Loved it!

www.youtube.com/bonnaroomusicfest?feature=inp-hs- music

Alas, it'll be a late night for me as I see that Alice Cooper will be coming up and I've just got to take a trip back in time!

Thanks again!

93E is new. Got some floaters up..

So good to see everyone. Life is ripping me away at the moment. Skyepony house can use some healing vibes.

Gamma~ Maybe a Western Caribbean, but I'm giving the slightly better odds to another Beryl like weak storm off the East coast in a week or so. This week the EPAC should steal the show.

Barefoot~ I will put out the whole HAIRCON scale at some point. It's really been a running joke most my life.. Family members saying the only reason I'm good at forecasting weather is because my hair.

Finn & ya'll in the daily lightning cross hairs..be safe.

Shore~ That was great:)

Oh, Skye. Just had to stop in and leave an LOL for HAIRCON - a perfect extrapolation. Yeah, I know, it's not a model, lol, but it'll work fine as anything! Goodnight. Have a good 'cane season.

About to get crazy lightning..
Member Since: August 10, 2005 Posts: 174 Comments: 38198
Hello Skye,

Glad to see you stop by today! I have been so MIA lately and not sure when things are going to lighten up.

I've been seeing your area getting a lot of rain lately...
when the "moisture map" updates this afternoon I expect to see a lot of blue and dark green
counties... there are alot from yesterday's update but way more today.

We've been lucky, all this week we had large chances of rain but a little less than an inch fell and not all at once.. just a sprinkle here and there. May get some this afternoon, thunder all around.

Now, what do you think about that system that is suppose to develop next week in the NW Carribean???
Something to watch?

enjoy your weekend.

Glad you're safe.
We too had a strong storm front passing over today, almost 3" of rain in just a few hours and we lost power. Normally Max doesn't react to thunder and lightning, but this time both dogs were freaked out.
Member Since: October 6, 2005 Posts: 67 Comments: 7356
GMAO GEOS-5 still is holding on to an even weaker low forming to the east of FL. Has the stationary front laying from TX to the Atlantic, breaking in two with the low forming on the tail that moves off to the east, sheared hard. Gulf states getting much moisture especially LA, MS & AL. Eventually the tail in the Atlantic crosses a wave & comes back at FL as an inverted trough. So much depends on where the front comes apart. I think it's one reason the models over all have changed so much from run to run the last few.

Had lightning land between the neighbor & I or maybe got their house today. It was just about instantaneous, thunder & lightning together. Stoked everything electrical seems unaffected. Had closer calls but it freaked everyone here out a little.

I had 1.17" of rain. Highest wind was 17mph. High was 93.4ºF.

Saw this lastnight live on TV..

Boonaroo webcast starts in a few hours:))
schedule

Bobcat was my best guess. Sounded like #10. Shadow had come in early.. It was on the porch, I guess looking through the glass at her growling so loud could hear it inside. Panthers many times are accompanied by the sounds of dying racoons here.. between the lack of that & the ponies not looking freaked out, figured it wasn't that big.
Member Since: August 10, 2005 Posts: 174 Comments: 38198
Bobcats can sound really big and scary at night.
You can listen to them here, click the sounds and they will play.

Don't see them much, but they are here.
Saw a Florida panther crossing the property by the lake front a few years ago. Freaked me out. They aren't supposed to be here, but I have a feeling that there are more of them over a wider range than the official count. They are incredibly shy and you won't find one that doesn't want to be found. I once watched a wildlife guy try to locate one with a tracking collar.
Couldn't get withing 100 yards of it and even knowing where it was, you couldn't see it.

Uhm, what do you do with that whip?
On second thought...don't answer that!

Fairly fresh ASCAT

Briar~ Great to see you. Life has momentarily tore me away other than watching the rain roll in on radar & quick glance here & there at the tropics. Shouldering the heavy load this week.

Rob~ I've only had .28" in the last 24hrs. Excellent weather:)

Wabit~ It sounded like big cat growling. Didn't see it. I went for one of my fav weapons..the lunge whip.

Being a west coast weather wimp, I never have anything to add here when it gets to be hurricane season, so I'll just say, Hi there! Hope you don't get blown and/or washed away. May the storm season pass you by, or at least be gentle with you.

Ya wet yet?
If not, maybe soon.
Got about a half inch here in the early hours.

You're right about sleepy weather.
Had to look at a few web cams to see if the sun was still working after 3 days of gray.

Have a nice evening!

Tropical Cyclone Advisory #6
FORTE TEMPETE TROPICALE KUENA (14-20112012)
16:00 PM RET June 6 2012
========================================

At 12:00 PM UTC, Severe Tropical Storm Kuena (990 hPa) located at 10.3S 57.7E has 10 minute sustained winds of 50 knots with gusts of 70 knots. The cyclone is reported as moving west at 7 knots.

Dvorak Intensity: T3.5/3.5/D1.5/24 HRS

Storm Force Winds
=================
25 NM radius from the center

Gale Force Winds
================
45 NM radius from the center extending up to 90 NM from the center in southern semi-circle

Near Gale Force Winds
====================

Forecast and Intensity
=======================

12 HRS: 10.4S 56.2E - 50 knots (Forte Tempête Tropicale)
24 HRS: 10.3S 54.9E - 40 knots (Tempête Tropicale Moderée)
48 HRS: 9.5S 52.0E - 30 knots (Depression Tropicale)
72 HRS: 7.7S 49.9E - 20 knots (Depression se Comblant)

Additional Information
====================

Kuena has probably reached it intensity peak during the morning. Since this maximum, cumulonimbus tops become being warmer and system probably begin a weakening phase. Easterly upper level jet existing northward of the system well sustains a good divergence aloft as showing by the cirrus in the meteosat7 visible channel. On and after 36 hours, divergence is expected to weaken and the easterly vertical wind shear is expected to strengthen in the same time. System should then quickly weaken and dissipate. System keeps on tracking globally westward on the northern edge of the subtropical high pressure belt.

In this month of june, environmental sea level pressures are high and system mean sea low pressure is therefore higher than average for a system with this intensity especially as the size remains small to medium.

The next tropical cyclone advisory from Seychelles Meteorological Services on TC Kuena will be issued at 18:30 PM UTC..

48 HRS: 9.2S 54.0E - 20 knots (Perturbation Tropicale)

Additional Information
====================

System has held its central dense overcast pattern over the past six hours. The 21:58 UTC NOAA19 picture(channel 3) confirms that the low level circulation center is now located under the convection, and displays very good polar outflow.

ASCAT data at 17:20 UTC depict a very asymmetrical wind field structure with stronger winds in the southern semi-circle, due to the gradient effect with the subtropical anticyclone, that will continue to strengthen south of the system during the next 24 hours. In the upper levels, the positive impact of the diminishing upper vertical wind shear within the next 24-30 hours, should be outbalanced by the weakening of the poleward upper divergence. So, intensification should slow down during the next 24-30 hours. On and after 36 hours, vertical wind shear should strengthen clearly and system is forecast to weaken rapidly. System tracks globally westward on the northern face of the subtropical high pressure belt. The actual track is close to the last ECMWF outcome.

The next tropical cyclone advisory from Seychelles Meteorological Services will be issued at 6:30 AM UTC..
