Ten Signs the Tea Party is Dead

23
ShareWhen the Tea Party-fueled GOP took over the House by storm in January of 2010 there was high talk of huge change. Exactly a year later, there are signs that the underlying political force behind the House flipping in 2010, the Tea Party, is all but dead.

Need evidence the Tea Party is all but dead? The polls and the vote counts keep rolling in. In politics, winning and votes are what measure influence and power. When applied today, those measuring sticks reveal a weak if not dead political movement that hit its height during the summer of 2009. Today the loud “in your face” town halls are gone. More importantly: So are the candidates.

Ten Signs the Tea Party Is dead:

1. Disappearing Heroes: In 2010, Tea heroine Christine O’Donnell lost 56% to 40% to Sen. Chris Coons — then swiftly disappeared … and then endorsed Mitt Romney. What’s Sarah Palin up to now? Does her endorsement matter? Where are Joe Miller and Sharron Angle?

2. Tea Party Gov. Scott Walker Faces Recall: Those wishing to recall Tea Party Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker needed 700,000 signatures to put the recall in play. They collected over a million.

Walker rode the Tea Party wave into the Governor’s mansion in 2010, the same year the Tea Party driven GOP took over the House. Now Gov. Walker is staring straight into the face of political headwinds blowing hard in the opposite direction. Other Tea Governors continue to impress with historically low approval numbers. Swing state Govs. Rick Scott of Florida and John Kasich of Ohio are examples.

3. Congressional approval ratings: As the polls roll in it is crystal clear: the House is in the throes of their most unpopular period in at least 50 years. Congressional approval numbers were never anything to brag about. But when did they freefall to historic lows? In the eighth months the GOP Tea Party filled House fought over the debt ceiling. Everyone knows Congress is broken in an endless get-nothing-done cycle of gridlock. But the polls indicate who the public specifically blames: House Republicans. It was after the GOP won the majority in the House that congressional approval ratings hit their lowest point in American history.

4. Tea Candidates for the White House Tank: House Tea Party Caucus founder and Chair Rep. Michelle Bachmann (R-MN) only received 5% of the vote in Iowa and received 23,934 votes less than a Senator who lost his seat 6 years ago by 708,000 votes. The other Tea Party candidate, Texas Gov. Rick Perry, received 92,000 votes less than Mitt Romney and 40,000 less than moderate Jon Huntsman in the “live free or die” state.

5. Florida Tea Party Convention No-Shows : Not even Tea Party Florida Gov. Rick Scott attended the Florida Tea Party Convention in November 2011 – he cancelled last minute. Florida Tea Party hero Sen. Marco Rubio did the same. The 3-day convention had no high profile conservatives in attendance. Could this have happened in early 2010?

6. Capitulation and Defeat: Has “ObamaCare” been repealed? No. Did the Balance Budget Amendment pass? No. Did the Ryan Budget pass? No. In the midst of the payroll tax fight, the talking-loud-and-passing-nothing-into-law Tea Party members released statements like: “I am disappointed that our Republican leadership in both the House and Senate chose a course of political expediency rather than standing on conservative principle.” More importantly: The Tea Party has failed to find a way to leverage power and move legislation through both the House and the Senate and onto the President’s desk. Even Newt Gingrich figured out a way to do that with a Democrat in the White House.

7. GOP Town Halls Disappear: In September 2011 there may have been more cops than constituents at House Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s (R-VA) Richmond town hall. That town hall required an “invite.” Two hundred “uninvited” protesters appeared outside. Last April, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) discovered he couldn’t hold a town hall without police protection. A few cops by the door is one thing. Having to leave through a back door and being driven in a police car is another. That’s what happened to Ryan in April 2011 almost exactly a year after Congressional Democrats pushed through Health Care reform legislation. All the Tea Talk demanding public officials “listening to the people” has vanished.

8. Ohio voters repeal measure to stifle collective bargaining for public employees: Last November a move made by yet another over-reaching Tea Party governor, Ohio’s John Kasich, was repealed. Seven hundred thousand signatures were collected to get the measure on the ballot. Four hundred thousand public employees would have been denied the right to strike and collectively bargain had the measure become law.

9. Remember all those big rallies? September 12, 2009 anyone? The massive November 5, 2009 rally in Washington D.C. to protest the health care bill? The people around the Capitol the week of March 14th during the final week of debate on health care reform? Where is all that now?

10. The House Tea Party “One and Done” List Lengthens: Remember the names of Reps. Blake Farenthold, Joe Walsh, Robert Dold, Bobby Schilling, Adam Kinzinger and Allen West. Refer back to this list again in January 2013 and ask yourself: How many of these people are still in Congress.

The Law of Accelerating Returns
March 7, 2001 by Ray Kurzweil

The first technological steps-sharp edges, fire, the wheel took tens of thousands of years. For people living in this era, there was little noticeable technological change in even a thousand years. By 1000 A.D., progress was much faster and a paradigm shift required only a century or two. In the nineteenth century, we saw more technological change than in the nine centuries preceding it. Then in the first twenty years of the twentieth century, we saw more advancement than in all of the nineteenth century. Now, paradigm shifts occur in only a few years time. The World Wide Web did not exist in anything like its present form just a few years ago; it didn't exist at all a decade ago.

Can you guess their answer to which President has done something for them in the past thirty years? Of course it could also be extrapolated that this is done for the security of all Americans, but then I might be giving credit to a Democrat, LMAO.

Oh nash, the great Senator want-a-be, are you talking about the pipeline that at best would not be needed for another twenty years? The pipeline that could threaten the groundwater of 5 states? The pipleine that has over estimated job creation statistics? The pipeline that would allow oil to be shipped to foreign countries without any tax revenue coming to the United States? The pipeline that would carry product from a source that Canadian citizens are trying to ban and would render it useless, so once again Canadian product that is now shipped to the midwest, refined by our workers, used by our citizenry, taxed by our government, could be shunted through this new pipeline and then tax free be shipped to other countries? nah, you're exactly right, let's rush this through in a way that these questions can't be vetted.

Link Behind Gingrich's Rise, Billionaire Pal Sheldon Adelson. Before Newt Gingrich dominated the South Carolina primary, a so-called super PAC supporting him spent millions of dollars savaging Mitt Romney in negative ads and fliers.
A driving force behind that super PAC is Sheldon Adelson, a Las Vegas casino tycoon who has translated his deep friendship with Gingrich into a financial bonanza to buoy his candidacy. Adelson gave the PAC, Winning Our Future, $5 million just before the South Carolina primary, and this week, his wife gave the group another $5 million.

Here's a question for you to nibble on....

How has any president in the last 30 years benefitted your life personally???

I personally cannot think of one thing any president did or didn't do that had any benefit to my life or my families lives. And in a funny way, that's how it SHOULD be!

WE are the ones responsible for making our lives better! Not some bloviating assclown who none of us have ever met.

On domestic matters, it's hard if not impossible to tie one President to a matter of domestic policy.....but in the last 30 years, hmmmm......I'd go with Bush Jr. for pushing the Medicare Drug Benefit. That's worth over 1k a year to me personally! Of course, the downside is I'd rather not have the need for the medication, but skeet happens, especially with age.
.
.
It's mainly on foreign policy issues or obscure domestic issue that one can judge what a POTUS has done, and it's hard to pin those down to how it affects one or family personally. I can look at an issue like AIDS...Reagan did nothing which cost a sister-in-laws brother to die way too early(he was my age and a good friend..also not gay for those who care, it was a transfusion). He'd probably be alive today under policies derived from POTUS direction and adopted under Clinton and Bush Jr., who both were more accomodative to corporations producing drugs which have turned Aids(death) into HIV(diabetes like drug controlled illness). That's something that's affected everyone's friends/family to some extent.
.
.
I also suspect, just a thought with no proof, that Bush Sr., through agreements with the Saudis, set in motion allowable future oil price increases which if true would of course be something that directly effects all of us.

Link Newt Gingrich's Skeleton Closet.Newt Gingrich is smarter than you. Don't feel bad, he's smarter than everybody else, too. Just ask him. Or look at what he's done.
Repeated adultery with younger women, while each successive wife was seriously ill --- and all along Newt was proclaiming himself a champion of family values. Attacking mortgage lender Fannie Mae, while secretly getting paid $1.6 million as a lobbyist for them – and claiming he was a "historian," not a lobbyist. Attacking Congress for gridlock, when personally led the destruction of Congress' civility and traditions in the 1980s as a "bomb-thrower" and evil genius tactician. (Seriously, look it up.) A half-million charge account at Tiffany's Jewelers for his latest, youngest woman (that we know of).

All this for 30 years running, and he's still a leading contender for President as a religious, morally crusading Republican? Yeah, he's smarter alright. As a historian, he knows Americans forget anything over 5 years old, and the press will ignore your long-term character traits if you give them any new, shiny story to report.

It's not that Newt lacks charm. My personal favorite thing is that he loves, loves, LOVES dinosaurs! Not in any creepy way, for once, but with the deep enthusiasm of a five-year-old boy. For that matter, notice how many of his "visionary" scientific ideas involve lasers and outer space and huge explosions. That's adorable. The problem is, most five year olds have a sincere narcissism that would lead them to happily order far-off cities destroyed if they got some candy in return. That's why we don't put them in charge of the world.

But ultimately, Gingrich is amazingly similar to Bill Clinton - two are pot smoking, draft-dodging adulterers from poor Southern families, who rose to great heights with brains and hard work. Clinton appears to have handled the change a bit better, though. Click on the allegation of your choice:

Link House Reprimands, Penalizes Speaker. The House voted overwhelmingly yesterday to reprimand House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) and order him to pay an unprecedented $300,000 penalty, the first time in the House's 208-year history it has disciplined a speaker for ethical wrongdoing.

The ethics case and its resolution leave Gingrich with little leeway for future personal controversies, House Republicans said. Exactly one month before yesterday's vote, Gingrich admitted that he brought discredit to the House and broke its rules by failing to ensure that financing for two projects would not violate federal tax law and by giving the House ethics committee false information.

"Newt has done some things that have embarrassed House Republicans and embarrassed the House," said Rep. Peter Hoekstra (R-Mich.). "If [the voters] see more of that, they will question our judgment."
