Life on the Island

Vancouver Island is a natural wonder that is as inviting and accessible as it is beautiful. Countless beaches give way to peaceful countryside and lush forests which seem to beckon you to explore every corner along its varying terrain. From the calm and soothing shores along the eastern side of the island up over its alpine meadowed backbone of mountains back down to its wild western coast, Vancouver Island will give you the chance to find your very own 'perfect spot' to re-connect with what life has to offer.

Life is different here!

It could be because of the panorama of physical beauty. It could be the stress-relieving effects of deep-breathing fresh ocean air. Perhaps it is the more relaxed pace of life. Maybe it results from the influence of an eclectic combination of people who have shared the Island for generations – the First Nations people, artists and artisans, organic farmers, fishers and loggers, environmentalists, professionals and business people. It could be because of the daily experience Islanders have with Canada’s piece of paradise, and knowing their place is in it.

Island living and the Island culture have a certain quality. There is a gentle calm. In all levels of interaction, there is more consistent warmth, respect and kindness than you would ever expect.

Every accomplishment in an inaugural season is, obviously, a first for an expansion franchise. Pitcher Austin Bibens-Dirkx provided the Victoria Seals of the Golden Baseball League with another initial touchstone by becoming the first Seals player to have his contract bought out by a major league team in going to the Chicago Cubs organization.

Researchers may have found a kink in the H1N1 chain, they think that people born before 1957 may have an immunity. The last pandemic happened in 1957 (H1N1 albeit different strain) and people would have developed an immunity...this may explain why healthy 0 to 50 year olds appear to be getting hit the hardest.

Flu numbers climbing
Times ColonistJuly 4, 2009

The number of cases of H1N1 human swine flu on Vancouver Island continues to grow, mostly on the southern portion of the Island.

Figures released by the Vancouver Island Health Authority yesterday show confirmed Island H1N1 cases have climbed to 36. Twenty-five are from the south Island, seven from the central Island and three from the north Island. One patient appears to have gone missing.

Last week, an H1N1 patient in Nanaimo required intensive-care treatment in hospital, a first for the Vancouver Island Health Authority. The woman was only the second of 20 patients hospitalized so far in B.C. who required a ventilator.

The number of confirmed cases in B.C. is now 298, up from 270 earlier in the week. Nationally, the number now exceeds 8,500, up from just below 8,000.

This is for the guys.. I appear to have hit upon a small kink of the female armour.. I do not understand it... but who does.

I went and bought SWMBO a new summer duvet and duvet set, not diamonds or jewelry. Now remember, this was a Monday....

I was not only rewarded as though I bought jewelry... but she is also going to take me golfing on Wend..... go figure? Is this an anomaly... or is it a small inexpensive chink that should be exploited.

I am thinking about going and getting her some throw pillows for the couch... no telling where that might lead?

The Snook is a sleek and extremely strong fish. They are a subtropical species that range in size up to 48" and 50 pounds. Also known as an opportunistic feeder, Snook Fishing is considered by many to be some of the most exciting shallow water game fishing in the world. Snook fishing can be just as frustrating as it can be rewarding. At times they will attack a fly or lure with lightening speed and other times they will timidly follow a presentation all the way to the boat before turning away. Their complex and spooky behavior makes them a supreme challenge.

Housework was a woman's job, but one evening, Jenny arrived home from work to find the children bathed, one load of laundry in the washer and another in the dryer. Dinner was on the stove, and the table set. She was astonished!

It turns out that Ralph had read an article that said, 'Wives who work full-time and had to do their own housework were too tired to have sex'.

The night went very well. The next day, she told her office friends all about it.

'We had a great dinner. Ralph even cleaned up the kitchen. He helped the kids do their homework, folded all the laundry and put it away. I really enjoyed the evening.'

'But what about afterward?' asked her friends.

'Oh, that........ Ralph was too tired.'

God is good.

Morning!!!
Geez, miss talking to you! All work, no play is making me crazy!!

Did manage to get out on Western Lake in
Grayton Beach and play on some different YOLO Boards!!! Looks like I may have to go custom. The board I like best is a handshaped 10' board, made in Santa Barbara... It was an awesome two hours of hard paddling - plus the nature! Incredible beauty - those Coastal Dune Lakes never cease to amaze me! Had a huge Redfish swimming with me.... t'was wonderful.

Then all hades broke loose! Real Estate - blah! Spent all day solving problems....

Today - rest, play and boating! Hope you have a WUnderful Sunday!

You've gotta LOVE all our young servicemen working in those conditions and still have this GREAT sense of humor!

Survived another week!

A senior citizen drove his brand new Corvette convertible out of the dealership and past the Tim Horton's.

Taking off down the Trans Canada , he floored it to 120 kph, enjoying the wind blowing through what little hair he had left.

"Amazing!" he thought as he flew down the highway, pushing the pedal to the metal even more. Looking in his rear view mirror, he saw the RCMP behind him, red and blue lights flashing and siren blaring.

"I can get away from him, no problem!" thought the elderly nut case as he floored it to 130 kph, then 140, then 150 kph.

Suddenly, he thought, "What on earth am I doing? I'm too old for
this nonsense!" He pulled over to the side of the road and waited for the Mountie to catch up with him.

Pulling in behind him, the officer walked up to the driver's side
of the Corvette, looked at his watch and said, "Sir, my shift ends in 30 minutes. Today is Friday. If you can give me a reason why you were speeding that I've never heard before, I'll let you go."

The man, looking very seriously at the Mountie, said, "Years ago,
my wife ran off with an RCMP officer. I thought you were bringing her back.

"Have a good day, Sir," said the Mountie.

I find you rather impressive myself.... BTW did I scare you away last night???

SWMBO - If it wasn't soooooo Cold!!!!! great vid.!

Here's a WAVE - 89 degrees --

Scared? Me? BWAAA HAAAA HAAAA Now thats funny. LOL

No, woke up yesterday morning at 5 AM for some unknown reason, walked around the whole yard trimming the edges of everything for two hours holding a gas operated 15 pound weed whacker, then lifted and dumped 20 ea 50 pound water logged bags of brown mulch into the wagon and then using a big manure shovel covered the big "4 tree garden" with it. Then took the big limb lopper and trimmed the gardenias and the azaleas. Moved the 7 big pots of my Desert Roses from the front porch out into the direct sunlight on the driveway, you know, the ones I filled with gravel and sand to make them feel like they were home in the East African Desert. Last time I'll listen to the advice of that bozo on the desert rose web site. Next time I repot one of these dumb things it will be into light weight potting soil with those little white foam thingys in it and I will tell the damn plant - Look, thats where you live now, either grow or die, I don't care which!!! LOL

So, by the time 1230 came last night, I was done for the day! LOL

You two are a riot, do you sit in different rooms and talk on the blog rather than get up and actually talk to each other? LOL

Sugar Bear and I are going to Ashville NC the 2nd week of July for a week, she said we are not bringing the laptop, she said that means we will have to talk to each other every day. I said "What", she lost it. Goodnight you two.

Gee Whiz, I came back this morning with joyous anticipation in my heart, knowing I had brought fun and smiles and laughter into your lives with my quick wit, incredible use of the english language, and the ability to download photos to fit any story any where any time, and what do I find?

Instead of massive and embarassing acolades and thank yous and shouts of BRAVO RTLSNK BRAVO and numerous submissions and recommendations for the Pulitzer Prize for intellectual and creative humor on the spur of the moment I find threats of incarceration, strange offers of kinky activities for the mere telling of my address, odd discriptions of my personal life and bodily functions, and GASP - recipes for the consumption of others of my kind.

I am shocked stunned and appalled, startled aghast and upset, astounded offended and dismayed, agitated repulsed and insulted, outraged horrified and abashed, angered jolted and revolted. (Psst-Big Fish-send me a WU mail describing in detail what this kinky stuff is OK?)

Where was I? Oh yeah, HEY SWIMBO, I just found a new site that has 114,238 photos of KOI. Let me go have breakfast and I can start downloading them when ever you'd like.

A sweet compliment for the snakeman could prevent that from occuring of course. :)

Yeah, wot he said!
Clean sheets are all very well, but some of us actually ENJOY wallowing about in filthy grime that has been slithered about in, by Snakes.
From my own veiwpoint, I strongly recommend the Highest Accolades, for the performance of the Snake, last night.
Somebody should copyright all this stuff, before someboddy else publishes it and gets rich.
Actually, now that I think of it, whats my publisher's name again ?
