I purchased a Groupon for the USS Iowa a few months ago and about a month ago I realized we hadn't used it yet. It was due to expire on June 12th, so I was looking at the calendar to determine the best time to go. Our school had a Teacher Planning Day on Friday, June 7th (that I did not have to attend since, 1) I don't work on Friday, and 2) I'm not a 'classroom' teacher), so that was the decided upon day. We ended up having our grandsons over for the night the day before, on Thursday, so we opted to take them along. I purchased their tickets online, and after a morning walk to Main St. to get and share a cinnamon roll, we were on our way.

We just traveled surface streets to get to San Pedro, as is really isn't that far. It afforded us the opportunity to travel over the Vincent Thomas Bridge, which the boys liked!

Hope you enjoy the photos. It was a trip well worth taking, so if you are in the area, I'd definitely recommend. We have toured quite a few ships as they have docked at the Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station, but this one just didn't fall in the same category. It was HUGE and has such an interesting history. These are just a few of the 99 photos I took!

There is so much information on this ship that there is no way I could do it just, so I'll just include a link here.

Can we say BIG???

This guy was giving a great lecture on the USS Iowa's history.

Grandsons.

It's a long way down. That is the "L.A. Harbor across the way. There is probably something in one of those containers that you will shop for in the next few weeks.

Lots and lots of steep ladders
