Striving for some semblance of accuracy!

Maybe we should call this Folk Climatology. Much as I enjoy tracking the data from my weather station, I have to wonder how much value it has, if any.

I'm sure there are many personal weather stations in this network that are properly sited and produce reliable data. But I suspect that many more are like mine: built with inadequate equipment and set up in less than ideal locations.

New equipment

As of May 14, 2014, the Boulevard neighborhood weather station is now an Oregon Scientific WMR100N, connected to an Asus eeepc 701 running Bodhi Linux, using weewx software to upload data to Weather Underground.

As in the past, temperature and humidity will still reflect deep shade conditions, but the new sensors should be more responsive and much less subject to the thermal inertia that can result from being located too close to structures. Alas, I can m...
