Welcome to The Ark

If you need to get away from all the "end of the world" hullabaloo, well, what better place to hide than an Ark?

Hang out, play some music, have a cookie, some eggnog, or maybe some grog. Be ready to celebrate that we're all still here!

The tutorial for the Youtube code generator is now in Post 7 and 8 of The Ark help files. The link to the generator is now in the right column in my links section here.

Please read the tutorial. It's really easy once you know what to and not to do.

Enjoy!

Now that I have more time to play, wish I hadn't sold the guitars.

I "used to know" how to play this.
That was a while ago.

Okay, so...the happy sound of the beep, beep, beep of a massive bucket truck turning around in the yard. Nothing sparked or went boom so I guess I done good. Things can return to normal until the next crisis.

Well, actually, Christmas and New Years are coming up, so not quite normal.

Now, just need a couple cold ones, a long steamy shower, and a massage and all will be right.

Shep,
You have been outdid by yourself!
Exceedingly clever and funny. You deserve some sort of award for that post. Perhaps the Rattler can dig around in his bin and find something appropriate.

Well done sir!

Todd,
I reckon that the world began dying the moment it was born. That's the way it is with most things. Of course, I am sure there are many opinions for your question. Pretty sure I won't be around to see it happen though. Fine by me.

YCD,
Think you about covered it!

Ylee,
That's funny!

GG,
Happy new world to you too!
Now...can I make my fresh start in a cyborg body?
I think this one is a little beyond going through all that stuff again!

Pretty much done with today's tasks. Waiting on the power company to reconnect the wires then I can start putting things away.

#14 BareFoot:
Safe enough just now. I dunno what the Garter Snake does in the winter but I ain't goin' out in the snow without shoes.
From what I've seen the local snake can bite but since it has no fangs nor teeth - just sort of a rim of hard stuff on the jaws - I guess we need to speak of it is a "constrictor". Wraps it's length around the prey and squishes till the mouse quiets down then unhinges it's jaws and swallows.

Quoting RTLSNK:
Hey, did anyone feel that tremor?

Oh, sorry, it was just the garbage truck going by.

heh heh heh

No worries, mate.

We will be fine.
:)

Sorry for my tardiness on such an auspicious day.
I've been busy backfilling the crater in the back yard and removing the burnt trees.

At daylight this morning I heard a commotion out back.

A large crack appeared in the yard and fire spewed out.

Shortly thereafter, accompanied by the sounds of conch shells, a tall and shadowy figure ascended to the surface attired with a jaguar skin trimmed in blue feathers and shiny jewels and a red dew rag with a cherry blossom on top.

He held high above his head an old round stone tablet.

With a thick tongue he spoke the following:

"Yyya, ayyie."

I am Three Dog, August Scribe, Knower of Picture Words, and Time Keeper.

Our day begins when the great Sun God rises from the Dark Vase of Jewels like a flower to begin another.

Two Thousand years ago the August Forescribes carved two thousands notches that circumscribed this wonderful Show of Time and affirmed the proper symbols of the Heavens.

However, for the benefit of the less fortunate nonknowers of picture words, I must correct you.

The long swooping arc trailing below the Telling of the Heavens is not a large boat to ferry you to safe purchase, yet it is simply our picture word for ROLL OVER"

He didn't bother to say goodbye or offer to stay and help clean up the mess. Hell, he could have just emailed me.

So, alrighty then.

I think RTLSNK had the right idea! Lucky him!

Goofy, you got me beat on wind. Makes it kinda hard to work outside here. Temps aren't that bad...mid 50s but the wind makes you put the leather jacket on.
Good luck finding and fixing the problem. You're gonna need that heat!

Ylee, thought you'd catch me slipping huh? Yeah, it's a little trite, but had to post it.

If you gotta work on the roof, hope you have good weather for it. And you were wondering how you would occupy yourself with all that time off!

I was wondering if you were going to post the appropriate REM, and you did! Should've known!

New shingles applied in Oct. hadn't sealed down good yet, so 40mph winds blew a few off. Will have to fix Sunday.

Misery loves company, eh? :)

Winds G to 49 mph. Glass at 29.10 and droppIng. Winds will swing from SE to NW soon and temps will drop. Still no heat time to see why new valve kaput.

Well, the earth hasn't cracked in half yet and the sun is rising so I guess I'd better eat something, top off the generators, crank the one at the barn so there be water, and get to work.

Have a good, if somewhat shorter day folks!
Will check in a little later.

Sounds like 3rd rail. All trains do not like running in water. Well except for ampibs. But that's only in the movies. Rest of us haven't got the hang of that trick. Once watcher a conductor walk a diesel w / 6 cars over a path with 18-24 in of flowing water for about 200 ft. He was feeling the ballast with feet.

Morning everyone!

Well, Macon Georgia is still here at 0600 hours.

Still have 11 minutes to go of course.

I like to be early. :)

Will try and check back in at 0612 hours.

Glad to see you are still with us Pottery.

Actually, we had some hullaballoo here too.....

Trying to get from London to B'mouth, across flooded areas.
Electric trains dont like flooded tracks apparently.Trains cancelled, bussed to another station to get a diesel engine, 2 hr delay, then deposited in a small station in rain to get another bus to another station where we got picked up.

Good thing I had made a heap of sandwitches the night before. The Salami here is very good stuff. The choice of Beer is a challenge. I'm working on it. Alphabetically.....

I'm still on the 'A''s, heheheheheh
Member Since: October 24, 2005 Posts: 0 Comments: 24452
Well, it should be a Lesson to you.
You introduce 'hullaballoo' and look what happens around here. Falling trees, falling poles, snarling garters.

The weatherman said 'fog' in Bournemouth, but it's as clear as a bell and about 50f. Lovely.

The girls have gone to the shops to prepare for a Party here tonight. I will try my very best to Behave myself. Or not, as the case may be.

Chas, Sam and Max are becoming Incredible young men, and this house is filled with Good Vibes, Guitars, electronic drumsets, keyboards, wit and energy. It's all Good.

Had very brief bursts of heavy rain as the line moved through a while ago. Heavy enough to wake me but no thunder.

RTLSNK, It's safe to go back to bed. Pottery is on London time so he'll let us know if there is an issue well in advance.

Goofy, Thank you! I feel much better about my day now. Misery loves company.

YCD, Yep, just stuck my head out the door and can hear the generator is still running at Grandma's. Should have enough fuel in it for a few more hours. She's happy, I'm happy, and the girl that took the pole down is working tonight, so if she's not happy it's her own fault!

The big rat snakes are really docile. You don't see them much here except in wooded areas near lakes or rivers. He probably had no idea what it was until I told him.

Barefoot, Snakes in your garters? Well, I guess it's better than bugs. Definitely would help to detour unwelcome suitors!

Thanks for the smiles!

Everybody please learn from Goofy's misfortune and check the mooring lines on your tree...'specially if you have cats!

I'm gonna finish this cup of coffee and go back to bed.

I'd like to keep Fantasyland. Don't care, though, if Tomorrowland ends tomorrow. We can't get to tomorrow anyway.

Safe to wear bare feet or bare wear feet in Gartersnakeland, isn't it, ycd? Um, they don't bite or anything. They just keep bugs out of the Garter. Right?

I'm thinkin':
Captain Hood is stuck in a fantasy world where things go wrong sometimes. But you got water and Gramma's heat running as far as I can tell.
Not Bad!
Only ground snake we have here is the Garter but I still would not push one around with a bare foot. No wonder the fellow with the power company looked at you funny.

Snake quietly tiptoes onto the Ark and reads the stories
from Pottery and Rob and Goofy and says to himself
man o man I hope that stuff is not contagious and
quietly tiptoes down the gangway in a hurry.

Will check in first thing in the morning.
That is, if we are all still here in the morning.
I have often heard people say "You can't take it with you".
I intend to stuff a "Bug out Bag" with Apple Fritters
and Christmas Cookies at 0530 hours and strap it to
my back before 0611 hours. Who knows? Maybe Saint Peter
might just love an Apple Fritter! :)

OK Rob won't even try. Retirement dinner tonight. So i am trimming the beard when I hear the sound of falling timber. Since most of the trees came down with Sandy or the N'easter, I am puzzled for a split second and think eh, the giant sequoia and trimmings. Lost about 10-15 ornaments, three of which are deemed irreplaceable. This means places 8-15 hours away. By 757's. It fell on the Steinway and took out other family furnishings. Some bailing wire, 16 penny nails and voila, a new challenge to decorate. The trains beneath the tree were crushed but still ticking after the licking. The BW then drove to the station. Found my phone had not made the drive. Left word where I could be found. Called home but found home phone went lala. Off the hook. Called neighbors. NG. About 15 min after a scheduled pick-up, No 1 daughter met us as we were finishing up dinner. Turns out when I got home heat is off for the third time this week. Tomorrow's problem. All small stuff. Little Prince and Princess due in from across the pond Sat., so will have to resolve the heat issue or unowhat. The other good news was that Daugh No 2 decided not to drive from Detroit to Winnetka, and back today and tomorrow. All is well that ends well.

Okay, so here is the thing.

Thought I had an easy day. Woke up not hurting, thinking, "okay...we don't over do it and by tomorrow I'll be back to normal".

Went pretty well for a while. One of my grandmother's nurses drove a big ford crew cab 4x4 in and on her way out managed to back over a guy wire to the service pole for my grandmother's house and my barn. She knew it was there and was "listening for the backup alarm to tell her that she got too close". Hint: those things don't detect 3/8" cables.

So...the service pole comes crashing down. Yes, she should have backed into the driveway instead of into the field...hard to be angry, she's been really great with my grandmother, her brother just got home from a couple tours in the Marines and her sister just went into the Air Force. Good patriotic folk and decent people.

Anyhow, got out the generators. Got the one for my Grandmother's cottage hooked up. Runs everything except the central air and heat.

Got out the one for the barn...which includes the well pump. Don't need electric in the barn too much, but water is a nice thing to have. For some reason, it cranked and ran okay but won't make power, even though it checked out fine pre-hurricane season. Okay...no problem. Take the generator that I use at my house and move it to the barn.

Well...the generator is higher output and has a different plug than the harness that I use for the well. Okay, I know I have an extra 220 plug for that...just have to go back to the house and get it. Spent an hour looking for it. Someone whose name I shall not mention stuffed it into the back of a drawer of my desk.

Go rewire the pump for the new plug...get everything going. Generator starts on the first pull. (only thing that went right all day)

One funny thing though...when the power company guy came out to cut the wires, he was walking along towards me and all of a sudden, his eyes got as big as silver dollars and he froze. Well, I hadn't given him "the look" or anything so it was rather curious. "Is that your pet?"

There was a six foot rat snake, yellow with dark longitudinal stripes on the ground in front of him. I went over and pushed it away with my bare foot. Think that freaked him out even more.

So...tomorrow, finish transferring everything to the new service pole and get the power co out to hook every thing back up.

I'm too busy for the world to end.

Thanks Grothar, I appreciate it. And the same back at ya!

Pottery, take care my friend. Some of those worm holes on the south end go all the way under the channel and will deposit you in a strange land.

Will report more on the days events after the numbing commences and I can straighten my neck out.

Hullaballoo ?

I hadn't noticed, you know. Seeing as how I have been on a Secret Mission, for Snakeymon.
Research on Worms has driven me deep underground. And I have spent days there, deep in the worm-holes and tunnels and tubes under one of the Worlds teeming cities.

Hanging out with tube-dwellers in the Deep Underground is rather perplexing, you know, and this has been a Trying Mission.

I met and Interviewed many wormy people, and I dressed just like them too.... dark clothes in several thick layers, from head to toe in tones of grey, brown and dark black. This allowed me to be disguised you see.

They were all quite pleasant. At first. But when I had gained their confidence and proceeded to query them by saying things like "why are you eating Snake's grass?" and "why are you breeding like termites?" they move away, and one even called the Guard?
Especially the Female ones, who for some reason made up 98% of the Sample.

Anyway, the long and short of my research has led me to believe that these Worms are NOT the same species that are affecting Snake's lawns.

I am now in Bournemouth on the south coast.
It will be 21 Dec.in a couple hours.
I will report further, later, possibly.

Keep Warm (I never thought I would say that.....)
