For Goofy and the other forgotten

goofyrider has been checking in here.
He is in NJ. While the focus has been on Manhattan, many other areas are in dire need of help and have not received it.
Goofy, in my book you are an American hero. I know you will say no, just doing my job, but it's my blog so I can post what I think.
Here is his last post:
SanDay plus 5: No phone, no fuel, some food, good compadres ok.Temps down to 32 Sat night followed by 28F on Sun night. Town put out request for help and over 150 men, women and kids came to assist in restoration. Kind of expect folks to help in their own interest but nice to see effort. Business shut down. Checkpoint Charlie in effect with floodlights and entry points. Report Seaside residents ordered off the island for at least 3 months. Hospital v. crowded. Squad hosting breakfast, lunch and dinner for 20- 30 members and family who are stuck. . This has also cut our response times to 30 seconds. Sample dinner: mixed whole wheat and regular pasta, chicken in squash and tomatoes, veal-beef-pork Adirondack scout chili, new england style potato-vegetable soup and salad Pretty soon rigs will be in street and cots in the garage bays. We had two fire calls at the FD next door. Having issues with emergency gen sets. Somehow once a month exercising and PM doesn't translate to 24/7 opps. Scram caused by low oil and or CO alarms. Son and buds leave for jobs down south on Sun. They were a big help during storm and follow up. Freeze temps will cause a spate of alarms for leaky buildings as water boils off to form vapor which alarms detect as smoke. Electric service restoration sometime between 7th and 14th. Then the ugly work of repairs to heating and plumbing. Basement pump outs and clean up to follow once sump pumps can maintain service. Generators being purchased out of state and trucked in to town. Three members picked up units in Maryland yesterday. This will begin to help with freeing up cot space and moving extra families into members homes. It will be tight till Christmas or longer. Staten Island looks to be a mess. Bodies being recovered in collapsed homes and out in swamps. Marathon only cancelled after NYC Mayor caught with foot in mouth and head up U no what.. Where's Rudy? Where's Harry? Red Cross out to Lunch and FEMA who knows. Both good with PR slow to respond. This monster was coming for a week somewhere. Great road net still a humina. N'atl. Guard in next town over. They are still in water. Out of coffee.
Seems that FEMA and DHS haven't learned much since Katrina. If the President's last name was Bush, there would be an uproar in the press....just sayin.
While the politicians pat each other on the back, many Americans are still suffering. Seems to be par for the course lately, but Benghazi is a post for another day.
Prayers and thoughts are with you Goofy, and the thousands, maybe millions who feel forgotten at the moment. Stay strong, hopefully you will get the support you need in time.

Numb-brained is the perfect word for me right now.
Surprised I can even type.
Gonna take a break and wait for the sun to set.
(my body is still on daylight time)
:)
Just don't look at a clock. You'll be fine.
:)
You can now refer to me as the SAILFISH Queen. 2 for 4 yesterday, I got the 2, around 5 to 6 ft. I had some bat left on my camera but it was dead when I turned it on for the pic. Not to worry will get one next time. Also picked up a couple of cero mackeral that added to our smoke fish pile. Weather was awesome 5 to 10 with a 1ft chop, was in 115ft of water. Day before we picked up a nice king and gaffa bull dolphin in 130ft. Just slow troll drifting liveys. One deep drop rig. Couple of boats got sails but we didn't get a hit
Yowza whoopie. That Bull in 130' must have been a treat?
The waves bring em' running :)
That was a nice day...
:)))
Yep my eyes popped out when I saw him jump. I just happened to be on the rod that time as well. The charter guys on the radio said they got some dolphin while sailfishing so maybe not that uncommon. I don't know how deep they were. He was a fatty, I think his girlfriend hit the other line but didn't hook herself they both went off at the same time.
I could really use some of that type of action, right now !
Nothing in the World like having a Hard Line.
Dismal news about the coming cold-storm.
Hard-Knocks is what that is.
Bah !
Cloudy day, with rain everywhere except on my house.
Busy one too. Just winding down.
Peace & Love.
May as well throw in tight lines as well :)
Absolutely !
:):))
Good grief LMAO, fishing leaves little to the imagination
I am so jealous right now.
Always said when I retired I would buy a coconut plantation on one island, a pineapple plantation on another, and a rum distillery on a third. Then I would spend the rest of my days sailing between them sipping pina coladas.
I'm going to have to amend that. I will liquefy all my holdings, buy a really big catamaran, and post daily what kind of yummy seafood I'm catching and eating!
LOL
Gonna get some food, chill in front of the TV for a short while, and get some sleep.
Y'all behave and have fun. I know it's hard tonight, but try to avoid politics. Well, except for Bloomberg. I kinda think he's fair game at the moment regardless of your political affiliation. Actually I was thinking today that maybe NYC is too big and diverse for just one mayor.
Rob you are so funny, I don't know if your mixed up with sailfish fishing (sail fishing for short) or sail fishing. Either way I will go for the moonshine island and fish drunker
They do come in that far to where you were.
Big waves equals big fish if you don't mind getting beat up a little. Usually the smaller chicken heads(small dolphin) though.
They are marauders for sure. They don't have a low gear.
Flying under your boat like a squadron of fighters, they are there and gone before you can blink. A run of bait fish doesn't stand a chance. Like Tuna, it's almost impossible to run them down. You just have to be in their flight path or chumming.
:)))
In case anyone is wondering, the reason we've had such long voting lines in FL is probably because of the plethora of constitutional amendments. Most folks probably don't know much about them, they just came to vote for a President, and maybe a senator or congressman, so you have this long list of stuff you have to read through and decide how to vote.
In most cases, I'm against this.
But, anyhow, I knew my youngest was going to call tonight for my input. To her credit, she had really researched them. She came up with nearly the same thing as I did.
But, earlier today, I called my dad to get his ideas because he follows stuff like this closer than I. We also agreed on most of them. Just a little while ago though, he called me and said,
"You know, I've thought about what you said and I think you are right about amendment #..." Then I repeated why I thought what I did.
He said "Well, I just wanted you to know you were right!"
Made me feel pretty good.
LOL
Okay...back to fishing and disaster news.
Have a good night.
Ah...Marauders! So I can eat them without feeling guilty!
:o)
And I'm talking abut the weather, not the four dwarves, or the ghost-riders in the sky, or the Candidates, or anything like that. Or myself for that matter.
In fact, I'm just sayin'.....
Actually, a man can get into Trouble around here by sayin' stuff without considering all the Obscure Options that you guys come up with.
Maybe I'll go back to bed.......
They have implants for that, ya know.
...just saying
:)))
ps.
Prequalifying in anticipation of reaction somehow just doesn't work here, eh?
...just saying.
:)
Now I just write simply and sesquipedalianly. :)
heh heh heh
Going to vote, back later.
(think Bill Cosby as Noah)
:)
Good Morning folks.
Gonna be a rainy day here.
Expect it will be over by the time Angie gets home and we go to cast ballots. A big retiree population here so morning is not the time to go. By 17:30 they are mostly at dinner and I've never had to stand in line more than a couple minutes.
Nice and clear here. 77. Not sure if we will get the tail end of that storm.
Looking like you've got a slight chance of showers but nothing that should really disrupt your day. At least not for the next few hours. Might get a bit choppy.
Enjoy it!
thanks
You are very welcome.
Awwwl Man!
Don't get me started. I would really like a nap right now.
heheheheh.... I think !
Looks like everyone there is voting today by the looks of it.
Be patient in the long lines, out in the sun and heat and cold.
It's for you.
All good here. Just a few sprinkles.
Catch ya later.
No line, Deputy holds the door for you going in, walk right up to the table, show ID, get ballots. Vote. Scan. Get sticker.
Go home.
I will say though, it's always smooth here. Plenty of workers, all friendly and professional.
Now I can put it all out of my mind for the night.
Looks from here like lots of people are taking this vote seriously. We are watching with interest. I usually vote but my choice rarely wins. We have quite a different system up here and Voter Apathy shows up when only about 60% bother to vote. In our last Federal election the incumbent government won a majority with 39 % of the popular vote. I figure that means about 23% of the population approved the current Government.
Folks around here take voting pretty seriously. I've only missed voting in one primary since I was 18.
Yeah, really wish that I could get more coverage of what's going on in the NE, but the election guessing game is getting in the way.
Also shutting down the computer.
Take good care all!
If you are suffering from post-sandy, you are in my thoughts and you have my prayers.
God Bless and be well!
