Ya think?

The bugs of the future could be different.

As long as they don't mess with the NFL Sunday ticket, I don't really care :-)

Live and learn, just about every week, no?.......

I watch wat I want online now. Haven't had cable for years more than 15. We use Redbox but only about 4 to 5 times a month. When it comes to movie downloads I like to by the disc at a pawn shop just to have a hard copy on hand.

Go PATS

Daylight's a'waistin.
Time to strap on the tree spurs and cut that cotten pickin limb that's blocking my sat signal.
It's only 30 feet up a giant Hickory.

Switching to outside speakers.

Enjoy

Wow! (as they say)

Y'all had a Party here last night !

Going to take a while to check all the tunes around here, but I'll do my Utmost.

I'll have to turn the volume right up, because I am a little busy with Pyrate Alex and Princess Amy today.
Amy needs to paint something, and Alex needs to make a bow and arrow.
Calls for constant supervision in both cases, as you can well imagine.

Laters, then >>>>>>>>>>

Thanks for the videos and your comments. Both are appreciated.
Auburn, Good to see you and that you got the new TV working. Enjoy.

Pottery,
Sounds like you have your hands full, once again.

Sorry to have missed hanging out with you all last night, but glad you stopped by and kept each other company.

Hope you all are enjoying Sunday!

Seems that the last 2 weeks, I have been sleeping well every other night. If the pattern holds, tonight should be a good sleep night.

Listening to the rain drip on the metal roof over the deck this afternoon has put me in the mood for a nap.

With any luck, I won't wake for 12 hours.

Rest well folks.

C-ya Monday!

Oh snap.
The only thing worse than a malfunctioning caps lock is a malfunctioning BOLD lock.

I'm sure the perpetrator of such misfeasance begs forgiveness...or not.

Must be some apple fritter droppings on your left ring finger getting down into the works.

That tells me you are right handed and hold your coffee cup in your right hand and your fritter in your left while plinking out your post with your left ring finger...I reckon :)

edit:
Never try that with a cheese burger and milk shake.

HEH !

You guys are depriving Capt. Hood of his beauty-sleep, you know.
And everyone knows he desperately needs it.

Anyway, it's Monday.
I am off to try to figure out how to build this curved wall into the existing ceiling line.
Same as the floor/wall profile, but upside down.
I am not good at looking up for long periods. I trust Ashley is good at neck-massage in the evenings.

Went to a Fantastic concert last night.
Paquito D'Rivera (clarinet) and Berta Rojas (guitar) playing the music of Augustin Barrios.
What a Treat. Brilliant.

Later, then>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

So, halfway up the giant hickory tree I notice some honey bees coming out of a hollow that was hidden by a thick growth of water shoots.

Not being able to speak "honey bee" and assure them I meant them no harm, I rappelled back down to "ponder" the situation.

Do I exterminate the bees?
No.

Do I leave the limb in the way of my satellite signal path?
No.

I decided to cut the whole tree down and let the bees move their nest. Which they are working on doing.

Yeah, I know. Sheph murdered a gorgeous tree.

But, the fact of the matter is if you cut one old hickory near the end of it's life, 10 will take it's place. Kinda like killing big spiders, eh?

My brother-in-law, who is an x-CB from the Nam days asked me what kind of knot was that around my climbing rope that I had tied from my Swiss Seat that I had thrown together from a piece of boat dock line. I told him it was a Prussic knot. "Ya should have learned that in Basic", I told him. He said "no, and he wasn't in Boy Scouts either". :)

I'm "sure" Ranger Rick remembers, eh?

Indeed, the triple sliding hitch, great rope climbing tool also. You make one for each foot and one for your waist. Great for lugging a heavy pack up a mountain also.

Good Morning!

Gotta love this place. Shep is being Knotty and RTL posting vids of it!

Thanks for leaping to my defense Auburn!
Truth of the matter was I figured the Snakeymon would be awake and making a proper dinner for his lovely wife at 1645. As it was she said he was snoozing peacefully so I got to talk to SugarBear instead...not a bad thing.

Speaking of Snoozing. 9 hours in 2 shifts last night. Better living through chemistry.

Ylee, Indeed. Hickory and Honey. Two great ingredients in one tree!

Pottery, If Ashley is any good with the massage, send her my way next. I think that at some point during the night my arm got twisted behind my back and over my head. Took about 20 minutes for the shoulder to stop hurting.

Hey Todd! Took a peek at the "chicken foot" over the weekend. Your truck is coming along very nicely!

Angie must have figured that it was gonna be a slow day for me today because she left me a short list. Funny, I don't remember her doing that much before she started reading about you guys and your lists on the blogs. Of course, she is a clever girl and finished the note with a line about how she was gonna pick up some rum for me on the way home and to let her know if I thought of anything else.

I interpreted that as "anything else I need to do today".
Wait until she gets home and sees what I added to the list!
:o)

Funny you should mention that Y. :)

...and speaking of "lists"...

I've been fancying building a smokehouse/combination grille out of some of that flat stone I brought back from Georgia over the years. Then I figured why not make that the south wall on the lounge room I want to add to the crib.
The grille side will be inside the house/doubling as a fireplace and the smoke house side facing out. Course to do that I have to move my electric meter straight out about 10 feet and to do that I have to extend a secondary cable from the breaker panel out to the new location.

Not that difficult actually as the direct burial buried service is only 3' deep which requires two 3' deep trenches about 10' long and swing the wires out and another 2' deep for the secondary straight out below the new slab.

...However...until the daytime temps drop 20*F it ain't gonna happen. Even though I have access to two backhoes that I helped my bro-in-law restore, I don't have a "smokehouse/room addition" machine to finish up :))

Shep,
That sounds like a really cool project. I understand the delay as I have several todos waiting on cooler weather.

All caught up and my honeydo list is up to date. Thinking maybe fish for dinner. Will wait a little longer and see how the weather develops. Storms beginning to roll in.

One of my very favorite movies just finished: Secondhand Lions.

If you guys haven't seen it...you should.

A couple quotes:

Sometimes the things that may or may not be true are the things a man needs to believe in the most. That people are basically good; that honor, courage, and virtue mean everything; that power and money, money and power mean nothing; that good always triumphs over evil; and I want you to remember this, that love... true love never dies. You remember that, boy. You remember that. Doesn't matter if it's true or not. You see, a man should believe in those things, because those are the things worth believing in.

And this one when 4 teenage hoodlums pick a fight with one of the uncles:

I'm Hub McCann. I've fought in two World Wars and countless smaller ones on three continents. I led thousands of men into battle with everything from horses and swords to artillery and tanks. I've seen the headwaters of the Nile, and tribes of natives no white man had ever seen before. I've won and lost a dozen fortunes, killed many men and loved only one woman with a passion a FLEA like you could never begin to understand. That's who I am. NOW, GO HOME, BOY!

Indeed.
Thanx

My grand daughter's newest interest is wall climbing and wanted some info on rope climbing. She's very athletic and I've trained her well in self defense. She's a handfull and not someone to be taken as a mark.

I sent these to her.

The Prussic:

Setting up for a Guarda:

Rigging a Garda:

They also call this the Texas Kick.
I don't have two large carabiners so I use another short prussic coming from my Swiss Seat. This is for survival and you don't have a hardware store at the bottom of your rope.

What's a Swiss seat? Funny you should ask :)

You don't have to tie a square knot on each side to lock in the crotch unless you're a bit squeamish. A half hitch will do fine. Hey, it's "Army" afterall.:)

That being said, a Schwabisch won't seize up on you in the rain and is a great rappel knot. This shows how tie a climbing knot onto your climbing rope with only one free end coming from your harness(if you have one). Very good to know. For a Prussic you wrap two over two instead of three over one.

Oh yeah...don't try this at home.

:)
