Quoting Ylee:

Was leaving you there part of the deal? ;-))

Hmmmm...

I never gave that any thought.
Worth considering.
Maybe I could claim some kind of Compensation.
Retribution, I think it's called ?

It's 95, with a heat index of 107.
This is not Florida or Georgia, you know ?
This is a small tropical island, with balmy breezes. Or it used to be....
I think Compensation for that, is in order as well.

Where's the Resident Lawyer?
Playing out in the Strawberry patch with the Serpents, probably.
What a life.
Beats golf, I guess.

I'm thinking he's at the bakery counter stocking up on fritter and rolls and assorted other pastries!

Hot sunny day here but a strong breeze. Not too bad.

Was someone looking for me? :)

I can always tell when you talk about me. Scary, huh?

Didn't see the little snaky snaky today. Good thing!

Didn't get the tractor back today either so I couldn't load up the wagon with the strawberry roots and stuff so I had to do it the old fashioned way. Dig them up with a shovel, throw it over the veggie garden fence, and then go rake all the stuff into the woods. Worked just fine matter of fact.

Nope, no pastries, we are dieting again here. Take tonights dinner for instance. Fried chicken, mashed potatoes with country gravy, green beans with onions, dinner rolls with butter, honey, and strawberry preserves.

Dieting you ask? Well sure, no ice cream for dessert.:)

No ice-cream for desert??

Good Heavens, my Dear Fellow, this is Serious Stuff.

Do be careful. You may whither away as a dry leaf upon the breeze, ending up within the confines of the compost heap of life, mingling magnanimously with the grubs and misfortunes of past grandeur and previous experiences, lamenting to yourself in mournful tones whilst those pulverised mushrooms that you have become so acquainted with recently become part of your genetic future.

Doesn't sound too bad, actually....
Sort of like Immortality, with a few new spirals in the DNA.

This was so wonderful my good man that I think the only way to honor you would be to share a large portion of Maple Walnut Ice Cream with you. Your portion will of course stay in the container until such time as you and the Lady Pott visit us here in the rolling hills of Macon, Georgia. SugarBear is already asleep you see. I never said I was participating in this diet business. If she wants to give up ice cream after dinner I shall not consume any in her presence. But once she goes to bed, well, that is an ice cream scoop of a different flavor is it not?

heh heh heh

Yep.
It's morning, and we are the only ones awake!
Better get some Icecream down the hatch, before you-know-who wakes up.

Family coming for lunch.
Have to do whatnot and stuff, before they get here, so.....,

Yeah...'Snake's gonna give up ice cream.
Maybe for a day or two. It's not the ice cream that gets you, it's the double stuff oreos. Never read the label!

Since mushrooms were mentioned. Have faery rings popping up after all the rain this past couple weeks. May dance in them tonight if the moon is right.

The weather is beautiful today. NW wind off the lake keeping me cool. Smallest woodpecker I've ever seen practicing flight ops and being followed around by young wrens that are no bigger than my thumb. Tiny hatchling lizards leaping between the plants while their elders chase eachother around the deck. New crop of butterflies fluttering around in the breeze.

Nice lazy weekend.

Oh, and Todd did paint the truck coil pink and write my name on it! Gave me a good laugh this morning.

Whew !!

I'm full to the Grim.....

Lasagna, fresh bread, a large salad with plenty avocado (I LOVE avocado season,,,), some vino, some beer, some stuff, whatnot and for desert, coconut ice-cream.

My mind ran onto Snakeymon during the ice-cream part.
But fortunately I was quickly distracted and it didn't last long.
Thank Goodness!

Beef Stroganoff.

Now, that's kinda funny.
My browser doesn't know the word stroganoff. Suggested spelling corrections...gastronomy, estrogen, stroking, and strongman. Okay, I think I spelled it correctly, but even if I was wrong, I was a lot closer than any of those!

Hmmm...

Good call with the beef strogo.
Haven't had that in years!

For dinner, I was told "I think there are some things in the fridge. Help yourself. I'm still full!"
Which suited me.
And encouraged me to have 2 rums instead of one.

So I had a liquid diet this evening.

Nice day here, but 95 again, with no breeze at all and narry a cloud in the sky.

Be vewey vewey quiet.

SugarBear is outside hunting wabbits in the gardens.

With a broom.

It seems that they have been eating her sweet potato vines.

I offered to let her use the shotgun.

She said: "I don't want to hurt the little things."

I said: "you want to use the dust pan to go with the broom?"

She didn't think that was funny!

I thought it was worth at least 3 points! :)

And yeah, I think you should have got 3 points.
But with a minus in front.

Didn't you just buy her a fancy little tool with a laser?

What's worse, hurting the rabbits or traumatizing the neighborhood children?

Good Morning and Happy Labor Day!

Hmmm, Labor Day, I thought today was a Holiday.
It seems that today is Work Day in the gardens.
Something about needing new netting for the sugar snap peas to climb.
Why can't they climb the netting the tomatoes climbed?
Because that is "old" netting. Well, there it is then. :)

Found out something about "Sweet Potato Vine".

Sweet potato vine is poisonous to animals and humans. According to the American Society of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals or ASPCA, the morning glory family has toxic principles that are known as indole alkaloids, which can cause adverse health effects if ingested. The seeds of this plant contain the most toxic containing hallucinogens closely related to LSD and toxic nitrate levels.

Oh great, now we have stoned out rabbits. :)

Good Afternoon.
Well, no fae folk showed last night. I guess because the moon was not quite full and the circle, not quite complete. The skeeters showed up in force, however, so I canceled the party.

Todd, I didn't choose the color! Good Morning to you too!

RTL & Shep, Happy Labor day, guys. Sorry you have to labor, I'm taking the day off...at least that is the plan and I've made it half way.

RTL, check the SE Radar Loop. You might be getting wet later.

Interesting spin off Miami.

Have a covered deck where the BBQ is located, still plenty of times when the rain started blowing in from the west unexpectedly. All part of the BBQ experience!

Somebody looking for Major Stuff? Here I am!

It wasn't the rain that was the problem this afternoon,
it was the lightning. Never seen one that bad.
One after the other all over the neighborhood.
Two of them hit close to the house. Didn't see which
tree they hit but the flash lit up the inside of the house.

That is too close.

Skipped the BBQ today and made Pasta with meat sauce.
Italian sweet sausage with roasted garlic and carmelized onions in a basil tomato sauce. YUM

I may need a nap before bedtime. :)

Hey Bogon!!!

I knew a Staff Sgt Major, and a lst Lt Major in the Army.

When he got promoted he became Captain Major and

then MAJOR MAJOR. What a riot.

And if the Staff Sgt made it all the way to Sgt Maj

he would be SgtMajor Major. :)

Long day, lots of sunshine and fresh air. Beautiful sunset.
Will likely eat the dinner that Angie is preparing, chill for a bit, and crash early.

Fun, big family party today..I know..when is my family not partying.

Feel the end of summer crashing down. Phish summer tour ended lastnight..we were easing back into homeschooling but now it's full on starting tomorrow. Started band again last week. Already got slapped with a bunch of Christmas music (fav of those). Can't believe it's just around the corner.

Good Morning !

There is thunder and stuff coming in.
Must be A Sign, right?

Yesterday was One Of Those Days.....
We got Ancient Person installed in a very nice Home (that word conjures up nasty visions), and really it is a Nice one.
But she was Confused, Horrified, and Distressed.
Lady Pott is suffering from guilt, angst, and all the feelings associated with 'abandonment' of one she loves.

My work is cut out for me, over the next few....
But all will be Well.

Keep the Laughter coming !

We had to make that same plan for my Mother last year Pottery and it is never an easy one. She is 93 now and is better watched and cared for by an entire staff than we could do at home. All three of us, myself, my brother, and my sister, all cared for her at home one after the other until we no longer felt it was safe to leave her alone without supervision.
She has adjusted now and has many people her own age to talk to and make friends with.

Lady Potts adjustment will take awhile also.
We will be thinking of the three of you.

Love can walk through darkened halls,
Like rainbows in the rain.

Good Morning!

Tossed and turned all night. Finally got into a deep sleep just in time for Angie to wake up. Gonna be a long day, but at least it's a condensed week.

I see that Skye is gonna have a busy week. Not rushing Christmas, but really ready for fall! Hope that the transition into the new school year goes well for you guys!

Ski, Sometimes it's not so much what you say as how you say it. Hope you had a good weekend. Glad you found your way home!

Oss, Thanks! Yeah, well at least there is small comfort in knowing we aren't doing Monday on Tuesday alone. Really needed 3 days of doing nothing though. Hope the week goes smoothly for you.

Pottery, I understand fully what you guys are going through. Heartbreaking decisions to be made followed by worry over wellbeing. You'll have to monitor closely for a while, but hopefully she will be happy there and thrive. Thoughts and prayers with you and yours.

RTLSNK, your sharing is comforting and your words wise. Thanks! Hope your day is a good one. Of course, since SB made you work yesterday, at least it's not Monday for you!

Thanks for the posts folks! Have a great day!

Hey Pottery.

Life gets hard sometimes. Everyone's situation is different. There isn't always the right advice or the correct answer. All anyone can give is their best and you hope that it's enough. All your friends can do is offer a shoulder in support, a hand in friendship, and an understanding ear.

Seen that happen here many times over the years. Anything we can do...just ask.

Oh what a night!

Got a whole lotta rain and a bunch of lightning.
No problems though. Don't have to worry about watering anything for a few days.

Kinda funny, right about 5 pm I noticed a rather large mass of red stuff on the radar west of lake Okeechobee, directly south of me. So I went to the local NWS forcast page and saw a hazardous weather outlook that wasn't there earlier issued 5pm. So I read it.

Basically said the same old stuff about showers and thunderstorms and that some stronger storms could have dangerous cloud to ground lightning...la la la la...but due to whatever they weren't expecting anything severe.

Figured nobody bothered to look at the radar before posting that.

Then everything mushroomed around 5:30.

Finally they posted this...an hour or so too late:

FLZ057-042315-
HIGHLANDS-
629 PM EDT TUE SEP 4 2012

...EXCESSIVE LIGHTNING WILL AFFECT SOUTHERN HIGHLANDS COUNTY...

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATES THUNDERSTORMS
LOCATED NEAR VENUS...OR 12 MILES NORTHWEST OF PALMDALE...MOVING
NORTHEAST AT 5 MPH...WILL AFFECT VENUS AND ARCHBOLD...UNTIL 715 PM
EDT.

GUSTY WINDS 35 TO 45 MPH WILL OCCUR. FREQUENT LIGHTNING IS EXPECTED.
TO BE SAFE GO INDOORS IMMEDIATELY. IF CAUGHT OUTSIDE...FIND A LOW
SPOT...AND STAY AWAY FROM TALL OBJECTS. THIS STORM WILL PRODUCE PEA
SIZE HAIL. TORRENTIAL RAINS WILL REDUCE VISIBILITY TO NEAR ZERO AND
WILL CAUSE PONDING OF WATER ON ROADWAYS.

Well, at least the lightning stopped just in time for me to see the sun, the last 5 minutes before it dropped below the horizon.

All good here.

Post 95. Yep. It helps just to get it off the chest sometimes.
And I know, from being around here for so long, that there is always a sympathetic ear or two. Thanks again.

Today, Lady Pott said "listen" so I did.
Heard a shrill squeeeek out in the bushes.
She says "Baby Chicken?"
I say "Nah. Bird. Or small critter"

We go to check.
Hard to get a direction, and I say "Up in this tree"
She says "Nope, on the ground somewhere"
Then, "OH WOW, come. Quick. Quick!"
I scramble over, and she is in the process of picking up a baby squirrel....

Body about 3" and tail another 3.
Fully covered in hair, eyes closed though.

We look around and see a bunch of leaves and twigs overhead.
With all the recent squeeeeeking, no sign of Momma. Strange.

Get a 20' ladder, climb tree.
On the way up, find another little fellow clinging to some branches.
Need to see what the situation is, with the nest. Snake? Hawk?
2 babies don't just jump out.

Cant get high enough on the ladder, and the tree is too delicate for me to risk climbing higher. It's swaying with my weight, and I need another 6' or so.

Just then tenants from cottage come to see what all the excitement is.
Sean (age 27, American, living/studying in Luxemburg) and his girl Fabienne develop "A Plan".
He will go as high as he can (he is lighter than me) with the camera at arms length so we can see what's what.

Photographic evidence is inconclusive.
We bring critters into the house.
Calls to all kinds of people result in making a brew of full cream milk, egg yolk, couple drops of oil.
Feed with dropper. Regularly.

Second feeding has been done.

We are in Tobago for the coming w/e.
Pyrate Alex and Princess Amy will take over the minding, on Friday.

It never stops.......
By the way. Anyone wants a squirrel ?
