Good morning!
The going back to bed part didn't work out. Wanted to catch the shuttle flight instead. Awesome sight. Just a little jealous of Skye as I had to settle for watching it on TV.

What is all that clattering about?

Oh, it's Pottery trying to shanghai more help, Pyrate Alex skateboarding on the walls, RTLSNK shooing racoons, and there sits poor Shep, asleep, photos of pretty girls scattered around.

Well then, guess I'll crawl back into my rack.

Oh, and "HAPPY BIRTHDAY PYRATE QUEEN!"

Busted...

Talk about nobody to talk to, 0400 hours is really quiet.
Even the birds are still sleeping. Well, except for the owls.
One really big Owl sitting in the middle of the street.
What the heck was he doing in the middle of the street?
Waiting on a small car perhaps?

And what am I doing up at 0400 hours you might ask?
Raccoons on the back porch again I suppose, not really sure.
Once they knock something over they take off like bandits.
I need an electrified wire floor mat the size of the back porch.
Run the wire thru the bottom of the back door so I can plug it in at night.
Sort of like a hot wire fence around a pasture.
I bet the raccoons would not come back after that!

OK, I'm going back to bed, 64* here by the way. Nice.

You need a yard dog.
Swampy is looking for work.

Yes Indeed!
Had a much better day today, as I was able to capture The Man I've been after. (see Orca's blog, ye that are dumbfounded)

Young, Strong, dare I say Virile? Maybe I ought not to say Virile. Scratch Virile. Anyway, where were we?

Oh yeah, well Young Man appeared just in the Nick Of Time, so I put him to work, and he is Just The Thing.

Got a lot done, and tomorrow we clad the thing.
Pyrate Alex says "Wow Pappi, you building a skateboard wall??"
I'm sure it's going to happen........

Nite Folks!

Gummed up, brain dead and can't decide
you can't pray enough, you can't hide
You can be cool or you can cry
Do it wrong
Not it all
Or do it right

No one owes you, no one's to blame
Save for bad genes or DNA
Ask your conscience the why and how
Do it then
Do it when
But, do it now

Hey RTL!
Right now, just drippy stuff. Think we've seen the heaviest of it unless something unexpected blows up. Very cool on the deck right now. Luvin' it!

Hey Skye!
You lovin' the rain brings a smile to my face!

Was joking with RTL last week about us having storm surge here.
The lake is full to the brim for the first time in ages. Winds were howling that day and waves over-topping the bank.

Kinda nice to actually be able to get a boat up to my dock for the first time in several months.

mass~ Good to see your husband improving.

Thanks Mass!

I'm glad to hear that your hubby is doing much better. It can be difficult to find just the right medications and doses since we all metabolize and react differently. People need to not be shy about asking questions if something isn't quite right or doesn't seem to be working.

So far it doesn't look like anything more that rain, strong winds, and lightning for us. Hoping that all my friends up the eastern seaboard are safe and don't have problems from this.

We are well stocked rainwise and don't really need any more right now, but It's not going to be an issue for me personally if we do. Others in Florida have already had too much too close together.

Anyway, thanks for the good wishes and no, I haven't forgotten about Emmy's B-day!

Hi Rob!

Wanted to stop by and thank you so much, great WU buddy, for your generously kind words of support and caring left on my blog the other day plus weeks ago. They're all much appreciated and been helpful!

My hubby's doing much better now since the doctors have changed a couple of his medicines and dosages of others around. Currently, he and I have just finished up "battening down the hatches" , as it were, of our back Florida room/porch in light of this far-reaching nasty wind and rainstorm that's heading up our way. Thankfully, we're located just outside the borderline of a serious storm warning or in the more Northeastern portion of Mass. Parts of Western, Central and Southeastern Mass. appear to be receiving the brunt of it with expected wind gusts reaching 50 mph. I'm sure most citizens have already taken precautionary measures, as we usually do with seasonal Nor'Easters, etc., and are primed for the aftermath.

It appears parts of Florida are also being effected as well and hope that you're outside of or remain safe from any all effects. Amazing how this is the second severe collision of cold vs. warm fronts in recent weeks. We only received some rainfall with the first one while others (living in NY, NJ, PA) received tornadoes, etc. Wish we could all transition into autumn far more gracefully as in years gone by.

Hope to see you online tomorrow and that our dear friend, Emmy, will pop on board as well. It will be her birthday and would be fun to post and celebrate along with her, if even for just a few hours or day, as in previous years. She's such a live wire! LOL!

NWS was about right on the wind estimates. Was a tad breezy for a while :o)

Pretty serious rain but only for about 10 minutes then back to drippy. A whole lot more in the gulf heading this way. Might be a long night.

A good night to unplug and read a book.

CRACK - KABOOM - RUMBLE RUMBLE RUMBLE

I really hate being thrown out of bed at 530 in the morning.

Well, thrown out is not exactly correct, jump out is closer to the truth.

Not a drop of rain last night and one little cloud goes by and fries another tree.

The bright side of course is it was a tree, not the house.

Rain is coming now, darn, there goes the yard work.:)

Onward>>>>>>>>>>>>

heheheheheh

Actually, I got it figured out today....

Dam thing has to be slotted in between 2 "I" beams (of different depths, of course) so using 2X2 @ 24" c.c. joist to span the 7' with a pc. of 2X2 driven in to the beam to hold the joist hard against the concrete ceiling above.

2 runs of el. conduit are fixed to the conc. ceiling, and one is a diagonal. Lots of cutting and fitting...
A real pain in the neck, literally.

Might need a new belt.........

Shep,
I would love to hear the whole speech that he gave to young men in that movie. I'm sure it resembles what I picked up from older, wiser men when I was young. I don't really have a speech, but I try to pass it along to the younglings. Have 2 nephews, really proud of both of them, especially the older one who really gets it. A gentleman and a real patriot.

Goofy,
You are being cryptic again. Solar storm in 3 days?

RTL,
Be safe my friend. I hate night storms too!
I know, it doesn't make much sense, but I prefer to see it coming.

Gonna get to work on the "add ons" to the "todo" list...hehhehheh.

See you guys later.

One final note...seems Youtube has changed the interface again. Happens every time I update the tutorial! GRRRRRR!!

Indeed, the triple sliding hitch, great rope climbing tool also. You make one for each foot and one for your waist. Great for lugging a heavy pack up a mountain also.

Indeed.
Thanx

My grand daughter's newest interest is wall climbing and wanted some info on rope climbing. She's very athletic and I've trained her well in self defense. She's a handfull and not someone to be taken as a mark.

I sent these to her.

The Prussic:

Setting up for a Guarda:

Rigging a Garda:

They also call this the Texas Kick.
I don't have two large carabiners so I use another short prussic coming from my Swiss Seat. This is for survival and you don't have a hardware store at the bottom of your rope.

What's a Swiss seat? Funny you should ask :)

You don't have to tie a square knot on each side to lock in the crotch unless you're a bit squeamish. A half hitch will do fine. Hey, it's "Army" afterall.:)

That being said, a Schwabisch won't seize up on you in the rain and is a great rappel knot. This shows how tie a climbing knot onto your climbing rope with only one free end coming from your harness(if you have one). Very good to know. For a Prussic you wrap two over two instead of three over one.

Oh yeah...don't try this at home.

:)

Shep,
That sounds like a really cool project. I understand the delay as I have several todos waiting on cooler weather.

All caught up and my honeydo list is up to date. Thinking maybe fish for dinner. Will wait a little longer and see how the weather develops. Storms beginning to roll in.

One of my very favorite movies just finished: Secondhand Lions.

If you guys haven't seen it...you should.

A couple quotes:

Sometimes the things that may or may not be true are the things a man needs to believe in the most. That people are basically good; that honor, courage, and virtue mean everything; that power and money, money and power mean nothing; that good always triumphs over evil; and I want you to remember this, that love... true love never dies. You remember that, boy. You remember that. Doesn't matter if it's true or not. You see, a man should believe in those things, because those are the things worth believing in.

And this one when 4 teenage hoodlums pick a fight with one of the uncles:

I'm Hub McCann. I've fought in two World Wars and countless smaller ones on three continents. I led thousands of men into battle with everything from horses and swords to artillery and tanks. I've seen the headwaters of the Nile, and tribes of natives no white man had ever seen before. I've won and lost a dozen fortunes, killed many men and loved only one woman with a passion a FLEA like you could never begin to understand. That's who I am. NOW, GO HOME, BOY!

Shep, now that the tree is down, just think of all the BBQ you can do! :)

Funny you should mention that Y. :)

...and speaking of "lists"...

I've been fancying building a smokehouse/combination grille out of some of that flat stone I brought back from Georgia over the years. Then I figured why not make that the south wall on the lounge room I want to add to the crib.
The grille side will be inside the house/doubling as a fireplace and the smoke house side facing out. Course to do that I have to move my electric meter straight out about 10 feet and to do that I have to extend a secondary cable from the breaker panel out to the new location.

Not that difficult actually as the direct burial buried service is only 3' deep which requires two 3' deep trenches about 10' long and swing the wires out and another 2' deep for the secondary straight out below the new slab.

...However...until the daytime temps drop 20*F it ain't gonna happen. Even though I have access to two backhoes that I helped my bro-in-law restore, I don't have a "smokehouse/room addition" machine to finish up :))

Good Morning!

Gotta love this place. Shep is being Knotty and RTL posting vids of it!

Thanks for leaping to my defense Auburn!
Truth of the matter was I figured the Snakeymon would be awake and making a proper dinner for his lovely wife at 1645. As it was she said he was snoozing peacefully so I got to talk to SugarBear instead...not a bad thing.

Speaking of Snoozing. 9 hours in 2 shifts last night. Better living through chemistry.

Ylee, Indeed. Hickory and Honey. Two great ingredients in one tree!

Pottery, If Ashley is any good with the massage, send her my way next. I think that at some point during the night my arm got twisted behind my back and over my head. Took about 20 minutes for the shoulder to stop hurting.

Hey Todd! Took a peek at the "chicken foot" over the weekend. Your truck is coming along very nicely!

Angie must have figured that it was gonna be a slow day for me today because she left me a short list. Funny, I don't remember her doing that much before she started reading about you guys and your lists on the blogs. Of course, she is a clever girl and finished the note with a line about how she was gonna pick up some rum for me on the way home and to let her know if I thought of anything else.

I interpreted that as "anything else I need to do today".
Wait until she gets home and sees what I added to the list!
