Welcome to The Ark

Welcome to the 4th annual "The Ark Music Festival"

This is something that we've done every year for the past 4 years. Find your favorite tunes and post a YouTube, talk about your favorite bands or songs, post an inspirational lyric, or just hang out, listen to the tunes and chat.

It's always good clean fun.

For those who don't know how, or have been having issues posting videos, I've updated the help files. Just click here and read post number 6.

Here is a link to the previous blog.

...and all at once, you look across a crowded room
to see the way that light attaches to a girl...

Hahahaha!
Okay, I'll alter my calendar. I guess it was the 40th Anniversary party that was one year ago this weekend.

And at the risk of being wrong on a 2nd count.

Tomorrow is Waterskiman's birthday.

Okay, Pottery.
You're tying lady Pott to the bed on your birthday.
I don't want to ask what you're doing for your anniversary!
(tomorrow is it not?)

Sounds like you have matters well thunk out.

This is purely for her Protection from The Tempest, you understand.
I have spent the morning talking to her about the Impending Tempestuous Occurrence. Just to sow the seed as it were.
Have not mentioned the other part yet.
Timing is important.....

28th.
I haven't thought that far into the misty future as yet.
But, actually, I appreciate the reminder !

ROFL (Its funny now, but it wasn't funny then)

I would estimate 2 feet straight up. :)

What would have been funnier was to have seen me going around that 4 by 4 planter snapping that clipper at hyperspeed whacking what would have appeared to be a harmless strawberry patch. :)

ROFL
I think I just cracked a rib!

Meanwhile, there appears to be a Tempest coming.
Word on the street is that it will be just north of here on the 23rd.
That's my Birthday, don't you know?

Anyway, I have put my Survival Emergency Plan into action.
So far I've got...

1) lay in lots of non-perishables. 16 bottles should be enough.
2) secure all things. this involves nailing the bed to the floor, and tying the Lady to the bed.

can't think of anything else.........
I'm Prepared !

Snake-Hunters Unite !!
This all sounds rather troublesome, Snakeymon.
I recommend a FlameThrower.
Of course, the single drawback with that approach is that you get to start again from the beginning, after The Conflagration.
But one of the plusses is that some folks eat barbecued snakes....

Keep on your toes there !

Thanks YCD!
I'm sure if Mr Copperhead relocates to the woods that Mr RTLSNK will forgive the transgression.

I'd personally have liked to have been there to see how high RTL can jump. I'd have likely fallen down and gotten myself bitten though I guess it's for the best!

I'm sympathetic with both Snakes.
RTLSNK: Good hunting!
Copperhead: Best to move out NOW!
Member Since: Posts: Comments:
Not to add to the uneasiness, but...Did you know Copperheads climb trees? Maybe you ought to pick up that Taurus Judge .410 and carry it with you?

RE: Project Copperhead.

Didn't figure it would still be there.
They don't like people all that much.

Now...the question is...where did it go?

Psyops time. Perhaps big speakers on the patio blasting Meerkat sounds? Maybe dress up like a really big rat snake and wallow around the yard? I'm sure you'll think of something!

(actually I'm sure SugarBear will insist you think of something. I know how she feels about snakes.)

I hope you find the Serpent....

and that you don't have to excavate the entire yard, seeking, seeking, seeking.

A Bummer
Good luck !

OK, no worries, it seems that after his encounter with the hedge clippers of doom yesterday, Mr. Copperhead moved out and found another place to hide.

SugarBear is not a happy camper though. We have six above ground flower gardens and the veggie garden. Lots of other places for him to hide in. :(

Morning Arkers,

The Copperhead Eradication Plan of the Day.

The beds are above ground planters full of nothing but 4 kinds of compost so with the roots of the strawberries there is tons of room for them to be nesting underneath everything.

What I will do this morning is take the shovel and chop the roots in squares all across the four foot square bed and then just shovel it out one square at a time. Now that I have cut everything down to the bed level I should be able to see him if he comes out from below as I'm cutting the squares.

I won't miss him with the shovel like I did with the hedge clippers yesterday. Will put my heavy leather work boots on today instead of the tennis shoes I was wearing yesterday.

The scary part is that SugarBear and the two grandkids have been reaching their hands in those strawberry vines picking berries all summer. Don't really want to think about that. :(

Just slipping through, to remind one and all that it's time to sit down with a rum and whatever.

Will try Pottery.
LOL

Never seems to work out that way though.
Have time to do a little outside stuff for a while before Angie gets home and while it is still cool from the rain.

Too much computer work this week. Glad it's over. Need some fresh air.

There goes that ESP thing again.

It just did so I typed it.

Strange huh?

Well, random thoughts have popped into my head saving my butt on more than one occasion.

Perhaps you should burn the strawberry patch?

Ricki-ticki-tavi, eh?
I saw that and wondered where it had come from.

Now we know....
Please in future keep your 'random thoughts' on bags of money.
Much better !

Snake is being pestered by Snakes.
Of a Grim and Gruesome type, too.

Calls for Drastic Action, my friend.
Show no mercy.
Although I am all for Serpents, they have their Place.
And it's not permitted to take up residence in our Garden Beds.
Attack with Full Force.

Just a little concerned.
Hope I didn't place the little guy too close to the strawberry patch. Hope he wasn't mistaken for one of the local Meerkats.
Hope no one tried to pet him...

I think I would have preferred to find that little fur ball than the Copperhead I found in the strawberry patch this morning. :(

The strawberry vines and leaves were up about two feet higher than the four ft by four ft beds and were hanging over each of the four sides about a foot. We just had drip hoses run into all four of the garden sections so before I could use the hedge clippers to cut down the vines I had to pull the small black hoses out of the patch with my hands first.

No, he did not get me, besides I wear heavy work gloves when I'm working in the yard. So I pull the two hoses out and then start clipping around all four sides first. Then I started clipping the tall stuff and thats when he moved.

Darn, are they fast when they want to be. I am still pretty fast myself but he kept moving around inside the bed under the thick stuff. I had a three foot long set of clippers so I could cut him in half if I would have been able to catch the sucker. He finally disappeared under the compost and wouldn't come out again.

By that time it was hot and I was done for the day.
Tommorrow I take the long shovel out and start digging the whole bed up. I think I will go sharpen the shovel tonight!

Will keep you posted!

I hear they always travel in mating pairs also. Don't know if that was Mr. or Mrs. and I don't care. :)

Morning !
Moving a little late today.
Some sore muscles and stiff regions after my lifting of the tank-stand and my adventures in the Bushes.
Seems that today I am the Driver, as Ancient Person is to be at the Medicine Man at 10:30, and Lady Pott will accompany her there while I zoom about doing stuff and whatnot 'till they need to collected and brought home.

Good thing I don't have any Compost-mixing on my list.
I would have had to make a feeble excuse
I do have an Item of "Move Dirt", which is still mostly pending.
It's the heap of gummy/sticky clay that needs to be put on the 'low places'.
But I've covered it with a plastic sheet, so maybe no-one will notice it's still there.....

Friday's are Good Days for wishful thinking, don't you think ?

Ha!
You should be in sales.
You actually made that appear fun!

As for I, I didn't do any hard labor yesterday, yet I awoke feeling like I had been beaten with a rather large stick.

Probably something akin to how RTLSNK will feel tomorrow!

(I wonder, should we tell 'snake that Rikki-Tikki-Tavi lurks in the edge of the woods? Nah, he'll figure it out!)

Thanks for the Song Oss!

Don't know what sort of demon I was fighting last night, but woke up feeling worse than if I'd just stayed awake all night.

RTL,

It is nowhere near Winter!
Still too hot for Summer Veggies!

Never mind...probably easier just to play along with it...

Gonna be a hot day for digging!
Member Since: September 2, 2008 Posts: 93 Comments: 30631
Good Morning Arkers,

Todays mission is to mix two fifty pound bags of Cow Manure compost with two forty pound bags of Mushroom compost with three small bags of Peat Moss with three small bags of Vermiculite and three small bags of Worm Castings(worm poop).

Then I have to dig up the 16 square foot Strawberry patch and toss it into the woods and then put the new compost mixture into the garden where the strawberries used to be so SugarBear can use that garden spot to plant her Winter Veggies.

What kind of Winter Veggies you ask?

Don't have a clue. That is above my pay grade.

I just mix and dig. It was on my "list". :)

Quittin' time...long day.

Yep. A HARD one here....
... then the telephone repair guys came to change the wire from here to the road.
About 150 yds through head-high bush as thick as razor wire.
"we can't get through there" they said.
"Hang on, while I change into my boots and arm myself with a weapon of Dastardly Destructiveness," says I.
"You going through THERE??"
"Yeah! Follow me" and off we went.

Well, the bush was underestimated by me,and it took a serious effort at 2:30 with temps in the high thousands.

But, now, we have a Land-Line again.

Whew !

Good Morning Gamma!

I know this is something that you have been hoping and waiting for. Really happy for you!

Hey YCD!
Zeppelin and Heart were always two of my favs of lying on the floor, eyes closed, headphones cranked. You can almost get stoned from the music. One of the best is "Mistral Wind" by Heart.

Great tune Oss!
Thanks!

Good morning Rob,

Always good tunes here and some bring back memories. "Ramble On" time I lived with a couple of high school mates and we had a stereo but no head phones so we'd prime up and lay on the floor with the full sized speakers tipped together over the face.
Guy comes in on that tune while you are off in never never land and starts rolling the "Balance" control back and forth.
Hang on to the carpet.

Why move it down hill. Tell her to get busy making chickens and mosaics and such!

:o)

Not this stuff.
It's dread!
20% shrinkage for one thing.
You can break a leg around here in the dry season, with 3" cracks in the ground all over.
Known locally as "Sapate" with the emphasis on the last 'e'.

Have a great evening, and be careful of the nibbling.....
