The Second West Coast Gathering is about to take shape. But Where?

By popular demand the Second West Coast Gathering is about to take shape. The problem is - WHERE?
Everyone loved Gold Beach, some want to return, others want to see a different area. The committee decided to test the waters and either return to Gold Beach or find another location. The more cameras and support friends, the better.
The planning committee is looking for a location that the most WunderFriends will attend. Please leave your suggestion with the following info: Planned dates are September 20-22.
1. What location would YOU ATTEND if a West Coast Gathering took place there?
2. Why would this be a great location?
3. Would you consider being a "Point Person" for this location?

Other suggestions have been closer to a major airport and easier hiway access.
Please leave your comments and thoughts, Thank You.

I thought Gold Beach was a great spot last September and we (Kathy and I) would be happy to return there. There is so much to see in the area and the jet boat ride was awesome! There were plenty of things we missed last year to see around Gold Beach and Rich Watson is a wonderful guide. I don't think anyone would mind going back to the area and it's a great spot for newcomers to see. Returning to Gold Beach would be my first choice.
I'm sure Kristina Rinell would agree that the Newport/Depoe Bay/Lincoln City area on the Oregon coast also offers some impressive scenery and activities close by, and we could probably charter our own whale watching boat trip from Depoe Bay as a fun and unusual photo op. Both times I've taken a whale watching boat trip right around that time of year we saw multiple whales up close. Kathy and I would be willing to help Kristina organize a meet up and show interested parties hiking trails and photo ops in the area. I know Duane has spent some time in Cape Kiwanda which is only 18 miles north and offers some great hiking and multiple high ocean/rock cliff views. Portland (PDX) airport is 2.5 hours away by car from the area so it's somewhat convenient for air travel. The Lincoln City area is about 4.5 hours drive north of Gold Beach and the climate is a bit cooler than Gold Beach in September but is normally very dry until mid to late October.
Lake Tahoe is a great spot with Reno close by. That would work as well and I'm sure Duane knows all the best places to see and things to do there and I think there are others who live close by who would pitch in. Easy and cheap to fly into Reno from what I'm seeing on Expedia.
Any of these locations seem like winners but I'm sure many others are out there. It seems to me that Lisa (Feather3) mentioned Ft. Bragg/Glass Beach California as a possibility and if so would be a super location based on the short time we spent there last fall. I'm not sure what the closest major airport would be maybe Lisa can fill in the blanks.
Just my .02,

We were in Yellowstone and Tetons last October, and it was SO crowded even then. The Tetons were clouded by smoke from the hills around there, but still was beautiful. Yellowstone never got cleared of SO many people, very difficult to get around, lots of traffic every day. Fort Bragg area is beautiful also!
Stay Tuned!
Now that we are the "proud owners" of an RV we are imagining travel plans. Tloml mentioned a visit to friends in Eugene as a possibility the other day. She has been there but I have not. So I guess my vote would be for the Oregon Coast venue.
I'm a "pointandshoot" photographer but it would be great to meet some other folks involved in WU blogs face to face.
Patrap and his family made our visit to New Orleans very special and we would never have met without these blogs.
I recall our people down thar mentioning this town:

Anywhere on the Oregon coast is beautiful especially being a "Desert Rat" Green and Water are wonderful. Tentatively this will happen Sept 20-22.

Now, for those who would like to be near an airport, there is the Columbia River Gorge out of Portland and an hours or so drive west brings you to Astoria plus there are some great things to see on the Washington side. Also in Portland alone there are several parks with different art décor, there is the Japanese Gardens, and of course the Oregon Zoo.
Along the Columbia Gorge are several waterfalls that end at Multnomah Falls.
I am not sure I'll be able to make again this year or not, but these are suggestions for those will be there.
