Snow, Shadows, and Shapes

SNOW, SHADOWS, AND SHAPES

While we were all asleep the snow came silently down, stealthily settling and filling all crevices and wrinkles of our roads and lawns. It reached fences, roofs, trees, leaves, and all. Fourteen inches fell covering the region in white, creating a magical world of glistening shapes and shadows. It seems that nature desired to create a magical wonderland for my puppy Mimi.

Peeking at the southside of my house I was delighted with the shapes formed by the bench, shadows, and the pure whiteness of the snow.

The creek that runs in the back of my house is delightfully covered with snow, creating shapes and beauty.

This is Mimi's second experience with snow. She really enjoys burying herself in the powdery and magical playground.

This photo post was prepared for another forum. Needing a newer post, I decided to share it here as well. Please add any photo, poem, etc., that you wish to share. Thank you.

I just love all that sibilism - do you suppose we're linguistic siblings? ;)

I'm struggling, struggling to get part two of my bison post done, and part of the reason it's taking so danged long is that I've found more than the usual number of really interesting byways to travel.

I thought you'd be interested in this. A reader in Wales asked if I knew anything about buffalo mozerella. I didn't, but of course I had to go look, and lo and behold, I discovered Italy's the place where the best is made. I thought you'd enjoy this article from the NYTimes. I found it fascinating, except now I want to try the stuff. I'll have to see if one of our premiere stores carries it, because I wouldn't buy something like this online, except from a firm like Dean and DeLuca, and you can bet I'm not doing that!

Anyway, I loved the article. It's good, entertaining writing. Maybe the guy finally will get his recipe right!

Hi Pros, Sounds like your had a snowy day! Mimi is a smart dog as it was not just a snowy day but QUITE cold! I don't think I would like it either. I mostly stayed in today. With the cold temps, it might be here for a few days. Take care.

WW, Bug,Watchingthesky, Ylee,Skye,Briar, Calpoppy, and Sandi, greetings from snowland! Thank you for stopping by and leaving a message.

It has been snowing here and it continues to snow although the end is in sight, I think. We are staying in except for my photo 'outings'. Mimi, went out in the snow but did not enjoy it as she has in the past. Yes, she is tired of it as well.

There are accidents all over the place in my area, including a truck which is on its side at the moment. Probably jackknifed. Also there are some people without electricity but not a huge number (so far).

I am trying to figure out how to post a few photos without posting them on photobucket where I need to resize them. Yes, I am getting lazier.

I hope Ylee is ok, Kentucky was really hit with ice during the night.

Take care everyone, stay safe and warm.

Add: This morning I posted the following on facebook:

Good morning. Here it is a 'sibilant' day. It is sleeting and snowing with snowflakes swiftly swirling around and falling on sleety streets. Everyone is slipping, sliding, and spinning out. It is a severe situation!

Hi Pros! the night time temps have me worried supposed to drop through the day and tonight much colder with lows around 10 above. That always worries me. We are to get 1-2 inches of sleet and snow in my area. Am hoping we do not get that much. Seems we may be in the snow/ice/freezing rain area down here. Stay warm and don't go slipping and falling. Take care.

Again?!

Oh, you poor thing.

Well, I hope you and Raindad are stocked up and have no need to go anywhere.

Wish I could send you some of what we have here today. Sunny skies and an expected high around 73F.

We will drop back to highs in the 50's and lows in the upper 30's a few days this week, along with more rain.

White rabbits, white rabbits, white rabbits, Pros!

Hang on.... Spring is popping loose down here and she'll make it up to you soon!

It's a bit rainy here, which is putting a damper on me getting my laundry done. I had hopes of getting things done early and out on the line but Mother Nature has other ideas.

I've a new load of books from the library, so I may let the housework and the rest of the laundry go, for now, and curl up with a book.

Truth be told, I had a great time and it felt like the first day of spring. I do hope you get some warmth and sunshine soon.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY F!

Son, fifty years ago I gave birth to a wonderful son, it was you.

You were born during a blizzard and to get inside the hospital I literally had to crawl up the steps on my hands and knees. The ice covering the steps was dangerous and I wanted to make sure that no harm came to you. It was one of the happiest days in my life. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MY FIRSTBORN!

You are a GREAT SON:

G enerous, genuine, gentle
R eliable, responsible, remarkable
E thical, enthusiastic, exceptional
A thletic, admirable,awesome
T alented, trustworthy, tenacious

S table, steadfast, serious
O utstanding father
N ice, noteworthy, nifty

Wow! Vikings, Hagar, Polish Princesses, Greek Goddess, someone born under a Gooseberry bush, carrots, Cardinal Chaser, ... I love the blog!

Briar, I have one more celebration coming and then I think my family and friends are through with my birthday celebrations! I enjoy every little morsel of food and fun.

WW, more snow is predicted for Monday. It might even be a big storm! I will probably do some shopping before Monday to make sure that we are well prepared.

HI GG, Briar, WW, Aqua (more photos of the garden please), Sandi, Ylee (yes, cold again :( ), thank you for stopping by and leaving such fun/interesting comments.

Hi Prose! My goodness, you have been enjoying the longest birthday celebration ever. I believe it started in early January. That means there are a whole lot of people who want you to be happy. So be happy, even if you do have to diet next month, unless, of course, you are still celebrating!

Pardon me, but I just have to ask Aqua if this is her new uniform:

I imagine it does wonders for your posture!

Hi Pros! Can't believe you got beautiful snow and we only got the freezing air from it! Enjoyed the banter between you and Aqua.

Aqua, that is quite a neat carrot! I always hate to pull them up as after that they are gone! So I just end up leaving them in the ground and letting them grow and grow. SO if you are a Polish Viking, what does that make Pros?

I am still running around chasing cardinals and anything else that moves but BriarCraft and Calpoppy have inspired me to start a bit of inside planting. Tomorrow, I promise!

Good morning. It snowed yesterday. The snow was a pretty one, it covered everything softly and invitingly. Today it is snowing again but it is not pretty! It is unwelcoming and it creates a bleak landscape.

Yesterday we went out to run some errands and by the time we got home the sun had made an appearance, the snow was melting. We have to go out again today but there are accidents all over the place and I am not amenable to the idea of an outing. Now all I have to do is to dissuade my husband from executing his plan of a trip to DC!

Aqua, I am really happy for the results of your DNA testing. We will talk soon I hope so you can tell me the details! Congrats my Polish Viking DIL! By the way, since you are Polish on your mom's side, I suppose the Viking is from dad's side! Yeah, those Vikings could not be kept down on the farm! They traveled furiously far.

Sandi, lol! Gooseberry bush! You made me giggle! Sandi, I will answer your email later but what a fascinating story.

Ylee, Hagar indeed! LOL

TS, Bug, I will try to stop by your blogs later today. I hope that you are both well.

Wishing you all a good day, free of bad weather! I am disgusted with the weather in my area!

Morning, Pros ~ My, it feels like forever since I've dropped by. The good news is that the weather here finally straightened itself out a bit, and I had to go back to work. That's good news, of course, but it's taken a bit to round back into shape - and get adjusted to a schedule that has me up and out of the house for full days at a time. No more lollygagging!

It really is wonderful to hear that you're on a regime now that requires more tonic and fewer tests. That means less time traveling to medical establishments and more time for painting, gardening, photography, Mimi and - desserts! Hooray!

It's foggy and damp here, but warmish. I'm going to try and get some writing done this morning, get the laundry done and maybe get out for a walk if it turns nice this afternoon. We'll see. Have a good day!

Hi, Pros. I haven't been online much since last weekend, so had to read back a bit.

I'm glad that it seems you've finished up with all those nasty procedures. Like Sandi, I seem to recall that I mentioned Geritol to you, at some point.

Let's hope that the acid reflux and iron take care of the anemia. Regular labs will tell you if this is working.

Hubby and I both have some upcoming tests to do. He'd not been in for a good workup for quite some time, though I'd been nagging him to do so. He'll be doing a colonoscopy in May. While I'd like him to get it done sooner, than later, I made him schedule it after his Medicare goes into effect in April. I have him on my insurance at work, so we should be able to avoid a big out of pocket expense. I'm due for a bone density; I'll do that this summer.

Good morning Sandi. Yes, it is another American term, a new one to me too. Grated brussel sprouts is what I ate. Surprisingly they tasted great, a lot better than they usually though when prepared whole.
As you can imagine, I have been entertaining my siblings with the content of the email I sent you. Of course they get the generalized and the detailed 'reports'!
I slept well until an hour ago, I am wide awake so here I am on the blog.

Never heard of 'shaved' Brussels sprouts - the ones we grow here are not hairy!! Lol
Is this another American versus British cookery term. I think we might call it grated??

Seen your mail. I will reply when on the proper computer, it is easier to type more of a reply than when I am on the. IPad, like right now!

Hi Sandi, Ylee, WW, GG, WatchingtheSky, BC, Aqua, Skye. Thank you for stopping by and leaving a message, video,...I have enjoyed the videos, from the Rembrandt tableau to the song, to the Hoodie Hoo. Hoodie WHAT! That's a new one on me! Funny!

Yesterday's weather was nasty but no tornadoes. I drove during a period of gusty winds, not nice. On the way home all was well. Why was I driving in possibly damaging weather? I needed color and a haircut! Yes, I know my priorities.

Today our friends took us out to lunch to celebrate my birthday. Yes, we are still celebrating my day. We went to a restaurant called Wildfire. I had the Alaskan Cod with shaved and then sauteed . The waiter figured out that it was my birthday and brought me (enough for everyone) an ice cream chocolate cake concoction, a candle on top! So we celebrated in style. My diet will start soon, real soon. Probably not!

Thanks for sharing your beautiful BIG snow with us. We had a lot for my area but YOU really got the snow!WOW! Weather has been warm this week so everything has almost melted and a muddy mess. Hi Prose did not realize until just a few moments ago that it is also National Hoodie Hoo Day.

It is a ritual to chase away winter blahs. At noon people are supposed to stand outside, wave their hands in the air and shout; "Hoodie Hoo, Hoodie Hoo!"

Hey some of this stuff just can't be made up lol.
