Sandi; White Rabbit! White Rabbit! White Rabbit! Happy October! I've been looking forward to this month for a long time; it's probably my favorite month of the year as fall hits its stride and we get into wool sweater & hot cider weather. Did you write the lovely poem?

Sandi; Loved your autumn poem!

We celebrated my brother's October 7th birthday this last weekend, while all the family were visiting; I made the four-layer cake for his party- which was a pirate-themed costume party. I'm the 'gran' these days! :-)

Linda; Good morning! Our fall leaf color tends to be later than the mainland, too, because our fall/winter weather is warmer than what they are experiencing (and you're right, the ocean does often moderate our temperatures, but our spring season is colder than the mainland because we take longer to warm-up) but also, that 'view' is green because it's mostly oak and pine trees. The oaks always seem to be the last to turn color and. of course, the pines are green year round. This is the view from my kitchen window- much more fall-like.


Hope you have a great day and may no bugs, duck feathers or any other wind-blown debris end up in your wet varnish! (Been there, done that!) :-)

Janet; I love my kitchen view, too and I've been very lucky to have such a beautiful scene right outside my windows for the last three years. Sadly, I'm moving at the end of the month, so I lose my lovely view in a few weeks. :-( Enjoy these wonderful fall days and have a great weekend.

Numberwise; Thanks so much for your kind words! As I said to Janet (above), my daily photo series comes to an end at the end of this month, so I won't be able to post for the entire year of 2012 as I'd originally intended. I wish I could stay here indefinitely, but- alas- it's time to move on.

Bug; Yup, I'm moving. I don't want to, I just can't afford to stay here any more. When my ex-husband and I took on this rental we had two incomes and this place is just too much for one person to carry. I'm moving to another above-garage apartment that's slightly smaller but much cheaper. It's nearer my daughters and grandkids, walking distance to beautiful ocean beaches and has an existing veggie garden that I can take over, so there's a lot to be said for it. But I will still miss this place.

This is where Sammy & I will be walking after we move:

Janet; Thanks so much! My new view won't be as scenic; the best window view I'll have will be over a big old apple tree, but I hope to eventually put in a pretty garden area near there.

The beach is Monomoy Sound, which is part of the Atlantic Ocean. If check out the South Chatham coast line, you can see that it's a crinkly shore sheltered by an outer beach to the east, which is what you see in the distance in some of the photos. And yes, it is cold in the winter- but that's okay. When I moved to Florida for 5 1/2 years, I came to love the state but found that I really missed the change of seasons. I appreciate them a lot more now. :-)

Linda; I am looking forward to lots of beach walking. I grew up walking distance from the beach and have lived in this particular neighborhood before, so I have walked these roads and beaches hundreds of times in years past. I can still walk the conservation area where Sammy & I hike every day; it's only a short drive to get there from my new abode. And there are lots of other woods, conservation area and a big state park near-by, too, if we want to branch-out.

I'll be sorry to miss the late-fall/early-winter daily views, too; but your Frost lines are so appropriate! Gotta move on.

I'm so glad to hear that you've got three new jobs! Hooray! What wonderful news!

Hope you have a good day, too. I have my usual work to do, boxes to pick up from the local liquor store so I can continue packing and I need to get another coat of varnish on the table I'm refinishing. I've also decided to put a coat of varnish on my oak chairs just to freshen them up. We're supposed to get into the 60's today- maybe our last warm day of the year - so I'd better apply all the varnish I can!

I also hope to meet up with Coopswife while she's in the area! Fingers are crossed that we can get together during her Cape Cod visit!

Janet; Good morning! We had a rainy, gray, windy day yesterday, so until the sun peeked out just before sunset, there weren't many people around here enjoying the fall weather. Today, however, dawned bright, sunny & warm! Hooray!

Sandi; Thanks- I will miss it here, but I'm only moving a mile and a half away, and being near family and the ocean will be very nice. It will also be nice not to have the financial stresses of living in a place that takes every cent I earn just to keep the roof over my head. Other than I really like my Little-Apartment-on-the-Pond, this is about as painless as a move can get. :-)

Janet; Yes- so busy! I'm just getting home (9pm) from taking another load over the the new place and putting things away. One more week....

Sandi; Very often, that's the way it works here, too, but luckily, as I'll be renting from family, it's a lot less formal this time and I'm able to carry smaller things over myself before the actual move-in day next Sunday. And luckily, I'll have help from my Son-in-law and oldest grandson on Sunday to load and unload the heavy stuff, plus my SIL's big landscaping truck & trailer to put it all in! (My SIL also is a former professional mover, so he knows the best way to do things- and big & strong, too! I bought a small refrigerator yesterday- not a compact but not quite as tall as I am and he put it on his shoulder & carried it up the stairs for me! Wow!)

Yes, I will miss this place, but I know I'll soon be settled into my new digs and I'll be quite happy there.

Good morning, Linda;

So far, so good! Yes, it is handy to have big, strong men around; I've always been sturdy and strong for my size- at just over 5 foot tall, I've had nick-names like "Mighty Mite" and "The Bionic Woman" (after the "Bionic Man" first came out, but before the actual "Bionic Woman" made her first appearance on TV- yes- I know, I'm dating myself!) but I'm getting older now and I'm ready to let the younger, bigger, stronger ones take over. Both my son-in-law and grandson are well over 6 foot and have amazed me with their feats of strength. This apartment has been rented furnished up until now and my 20 year old grandson carried all the furnishings downstairs BY HIMSELF so that it would be empty for me to move into. (Seems just yesterday that he was a little boy....) I'm really grateful to have these guys around!

Good luck getting everything completed before your departure in a few days and have a WONDERFUL trip!

A few more days left to enjoy my view.

Sandi; So far so good for the weather... moving day is on Sunday, so I should get in before the storm arrives and then I can do my final cleaning while the weather is bad. I've been really lucky with weather conditions as I take small truck-loads of stuff over to the new place. The temperatures have been really mild and except for a few sprinkles and overcast days, it's been bright and sunny- thank goodness! Thanks for wishing me luck!

Janet; Thanks! I'm hoping that Sandy won't be too much of an issue, either. She should be coming through sometime after I'm already moved into my new place and that will just leave me cleaning up the old place during the storm. Hope she behaves herself when she is in your neck of the woods! Good luck!

Karen; Yes- closer to the beach is good! I've been too busy to walk there with Sammy, but on Monday night after Sandy passed through, I took Sammy out around 11:30pm and the winds were eerily quiet, but we could hear the surf pounding on the shore about a half-mile away. Last night we still could hear the waves hitting the beach, but the sound wasn't as deep as the previous night. It's nice to hear that well-loved sound again. And of course, I love being closer to the kids- both my daughters and the grandkids! Sammy & Triton seem to like it here, too; they are settling in quickly- especially Triton. I'll take photos when I've got the place in order. :-)

Janet; All is well, thanks- just really tired and a bit achy from all that moving stuff!

Sandi; Yes, luckily my wonderful Son-in-law, oldest grandson and life-long best friend helped me get moved on Sunday. I spent Monday (the day Sandy hit) cleaning out the old place- came home and collapsed with a take-out veggie pizza because I had no food at home except for some bananas, Pop Tarts, etc., and Sammy & I enjoyed the pizza and a relaxing evening with some movies in the VCR. I was too played-out to even think about doing any more unpacking. I'm slowly recovering.... and hoping I NEVER have to move again! UGH... I'm too old for this! But, I'm glad the hard part is over-with and now I can settle-in at my leisure.

Bug; We had some heavy erosion here, too- what with the moon tides and big seas, but nothing that personally effected me.

Feeling like Mrs. Magoo? I have the same problem but for me I know it's just eye strain and exhaustion. How nice that you can get your eyes checked at work! I hope new glasses fix the problem.

I know I'll miss the old place terribly, but I've been too busy to think about it much so far, although Monday was a sad day as I finished emptying it out and cleaning it up. I'm sure I'll enjoy this place a lot; already enjoying not waking up to the loud heavy equipment engines revving and back-up beepers from the excavation place diagonally across the street where ex-hubby still works.... and I don't have to look at his ugly mug any more, either! Hooray!

Yes, I'll definitely post photos when I finish unpacking... may take a while! Thanks for checking in!

Janet; Hello! Yes, I'm trying to pace myself; so much to do but it's gradually getting done. I love my new place- can't wait to be able to relax and enjoy it. Thanks for stopping in! Hope you are well! :-)

Sandi; Yes, it's really nice to see the place coming together! I had some help from my son-in-law today who hung some art work way up high at the gable ends of the vaulted ceiling for me. It's so convenient to have a tall person for these kinds of jobs! I hope it won't be too much longer before the process of getting settled is complete- and yes- there will be photos! :-)

How have you been? Are things going okay? After all that dreary summer weather, I hope you're enjoying a pleasant fall.

Janet; Athena? Was that the name of this week's storm? It was a little more vicious than Sandy- enough the shake the building and blow lots of stuff around, but it brought some much-needed rain. The temps had dipped to 30 degrees just before it hit; luckily it warmed up quite a bit or we'd be buried in snow by now!

No, I don't have a real fireplace- just an electric model. It looks pretty, but it's not quite the same. Thanks for checking on me! Hope all is well with you!

Numberwise; I heard that we had over hurricane-force gusts, but the highest one I know of was 66 miles an hour. There's some minor damage locally and trees down, but nothing too serious. My electricity blinked a few times, but no losses in this area- thank goodness!

Yes, I agree that moving is tough and as much as I'll miss the old place, I really do like the new one. It's a bit smaller, very cute and I just love having my daughters and grandkids as neighbors- one daughter and her family on each side of me!

I was living on the outskirts of town, next door to a farm and abutting a conservation area, but now that I'm right in the village I thought I wouldn't be seeing or hearing much wildlife- but already I've seen a falcon streak across the yard, watched some crows harass an owl in flight and heard coyotes howling three times- all in less than two weeks. It's kind of comforting to know that Nature is still close at hand.

Are you really thinking of moving? Where to?

Bug; The artwork has been mounted on the walls, and most things have been put away by now. It's really starting to look like home. The critters are quite comfortable and settled in right away. They don't seem to miss the old place at all!

Sandi; Yes, we're right next door to one another. When I take Sammy out, first he goes to my oldest daughter's house down back to see if her dog or any people are outdoors and if not, then he walks back up the drive to my youngest daughter's home and looks for her dog or anyone who might be a playmate. And I like it because I can get my "grandma fix" almost every day.

Good luck with the storm; I hope it's lost some of it's oomph by the time it gets to you!
