It has been a long spring and summer, but I am finally seeing my way clear to return to my WU blog. My handle (PeaceRiverBP) seems doubly ironic now that I'm no longer living by the Peace River and I'm no long a "BP", thanks to my recent divorce. But, I guess it doesn't matter where I live or what my initials are, after using this handle for nine years, it's who I am. :-)

I've missed you all and I hope to gradually find the time to get back into visiting my fellow WUBA's on a regular basis. I've been working two jobs all summer, but that will wind down soon. I may take another part-time job over the winter, but we'll see what opportunities present themselves.

In the mean time, I've also been redecorating my home to make it more my own and working in my vegetable garden, which has supplied me and my family and friends with all the vegetable we need! Sammy and I still get out for our daily hikes in the forest and every day, I am grateful to live in such a beautiful, peaceful place. My woodland wanderings with Sammy have been incredibly healing during these dark days. But, that's all behind me now and I'm all about moving ahead with this newest chapter in my life.

Carpe Diem.

Here I come!

Beth,

No apologies necessary! When I decided to make a run to Louisiana for Christmas, my whole to-do list got trossed - which is a combination of trashed and tossed!

But it's a new year, and don't you know I'm going to be organized! Of course, I'm feeling quite chipper this morning because I was able to sleep with the windows open all night long - it's just gorgeous here. The cold is coming, but for now? It's just the best!

I hope you all enjoyed a happy and healthy holiday season and I hope that 2012 brings us all good fortune in every aspect of our lives. :-)

Dear Beth,
You just not only survived but thrived after a difficult year.. but it is behind you now
with all the promise of a wonderful New Year!

Merry Christmas to you and your family.

"And the Grinch, with his Grinch-feet ice cold in the snow,
stood puzzling and puzzling, how could it be so? It came without ribbons.
It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes or bags.
And he puzzled and puzzled, till his puzzler was sore.
Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn%u2019t before.
What if Christmas, he thought, doesn%u2019t come from a store.
What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more."

Hi Beth - it''s been really cold here today. I think our high was 59º!! For us - that's cold! They say we might see 70 by this weekend.

When driving out to the desert on Friday, we drive through a pass with mountains on either side. Mt. Jacinto sits above the desert and gets snow. I snapped a picture as we drove by it, as it looked like it was currently getting snow! It did look white on our way hoome.

(((Peace))) ~

Wishing you all the best this holiday season and hope you'll get to enjoy Christmas with most of your loved ones or, at least, all those who live nearby. May better health be yours during the holiday season and throughout the coming year! Stay warm, well and protected from future colds as well as the elements.

.................................................

We could be seeing snow or an icy mix on Chrismtas Day. ARGH! Thought I'd drop off this reminder of what the winter season ahead could still hold in store for some of us in New England.

Linda; I hope the ducks in my back yard never get the inclination to hunt people!

Pros; Merry Christmas! BTW, that puppy looks way too cute to by naughty!

Bug; I've been checking our temps against the WU temp for Chatham, too. I also found that when I switched to South Chatham, the village that I actually live in, the temperatures are pretty close.... but whodda thunk that temps could very 10 to 15 degrees over a couple of miles? I still think that the Airport's temperature gauge is off.

Hi, Beth.

Glad to hear that you're feeling better and are up to finishing your Christmas preps.

Those weather stations tied into WU show a lot of differences in the temps. Hades said it: they may need to reset their station, if it has been on point until recently.

I sometimes double check WU's temps for us against the NWS site. Our NWS stats comes from the airport, which is a bit aways from us here at the house, so there can still be a bit of variance. But it's never seemed to be much.

Linda; I'm all better and I hope that you're feeling better, too!

I'm just about ready for Christmas. Tomorrow I'll make some fudge (popular with some friends who request it on occasion) which I'll need to deliver and I still have to wrap most of the gifts, but other than that, I'm pretty much all set.

It sounds as though your apartment is ready for Christmas; I'll bet the trees look wonderful! I love the ornament, too! I've been having a very "ducky" day, so it fits right in with my Saturday! I started out the day looking at two pairs of mallards that were paddling around the pond outside my windows, sometimes dipping their heads into the cold water with their fluffy white bums up in the air and later, a package arrived from my Dad and his lady-friend with a hand-carved duck made by my Dad and a store-bought decoy to add to my collection. I think your ornament is just wonderful! I wonder what Mr. Duck is hunting for? :-)

Thanks for stopping in!

Beth ~ I keep starting to look for your blog and then I get distracted. Now, here you are! I hope all is well, and that you're feeling better yourself. With just a week t go, are you about ready for the big celebration?

I see there is going to be a big snow event in the four corners area Monday and Tuesday. Buy Tuesday it will be sweeping NE toward and into Kansas, and from there? Who know? Maybe you will get your white Christmas!

I have my tree up. And another tree... and another tree... My primary tree is an artificial, two-trunked cedar. I also put up my mom's white ceramic tree that she made - one of those with the colored little bulbs put into holes with a light bulb inside. It's a nice one - white instead of green, and about 16" high. And I have my "branches" tree, and a grouping of three wire and copper trees in the dining room. Oh, and an undecorated little tall artifical tree in the bath - covered with real pinecones.

I haven't taken pics of all this and probably won't - but I thought you'd get a kick out of my favorite ornament!

Mass; Yes, indeed! I am "back in the pink" as you say. :-)

I'm sorry to hear about your computer's hard drive problems... so frustrating!

I thought about the temperatures differences I mentioned and realized that the weather station is at Chatham Airport (seen here) which may not be much more than a Quonset Hut and an airfield, but I wonder if the tarmac is holding onto the sun's heat and affecting the temperature readings.

Thanks for the holiday wishes; I hope that you enjoy a wonderful Christmas & New Year's as well.

Good Morning Peace!

Firstly, I'm so happy to hear that you're back "in the pink" after suffering from those nasty bugs a few weeks ago! Hopefully, you'll remain so throughout December and the winter season ahead!

I see Haydes posted the possible answer to your exact temperature being off in your area. Unfortunately, our current 27F degrees doesn't appear to far off for my neck of the woods. This frailer gal has difficulty facing those brisk temps early in the day. I've been spoiled by November! LOL!

Glad to learn that you seem in finer spirits as the upcoming holidays near. I'm sure those gorgeous grandchildren of yours will keep you smiling and busy from now till then. How wonderful that a couple of them have birthdays in the days ahead! How quickly time flies! I still have those pics of your granddaughters from last year, since I'm now faced with a sudden problem with a corruptive main harddrive, I'm afraid to plug in or use my portable on which they're stored. I lost a couple of important files there already which is so exasperating! Naturally, these problems tend to develop around the holidays or times when I need it the most.

Nevertheless, hope you and yours remain well and will have a wonderful Christmas and New Years! I'm just hoping my computer will last awhile longer to, at least, post again in the days and weeks ahead.

I guess there could be one other possibility... maybe I'm in some sort of a pocket of cold air that makes my temps ten or more degrees colder. But, if that's the case, it just started a few weeks ago!

Hades; I'm assuming that there is some issue with the weather station that reports for this area; the temps have been reasonably accurate until recently when suddenly they started showing temperatures much warmer than we are actually experiencing.... as though they put the thermometer in an unheated garage or something!

Good morning, WU World;

For some reason, whatever instruments are being used to measure temperature in my town are WAY off, usually 10 to 15 degrees warmer than they actually are. For example, this morning we're at 23 degrees and I checked WU and it says we're at 35 degrees. I've noticed this discrepancy over the last few weeks. What gives?

Sandi; Hello! Thanks for checking in on me! I've been well so far this month (thank goodness!) and hope to get through the winter with a minimum of fuss now that I've endured three bugs during the month of November!

We've had a very mild fall but winter may finally have reared it's frosty head.... we've had temp in the mid-low 20's for the last few mornings and a skim of ice on the pond in back of the house for the last few days. Come on, SNOW! I want a White Christmas! (After Christmas, it can warm back up as we count the days until spring!)

I hope you have a lovely week! :-)

Sorry you were suffering ... not good to get ill with Christmas coming.

Yes, your winter weather has been like ours - much milder than last year, and long may it continue - each day it stays mild is one more day nearer spring! lol

Mass; Thank goodness I am over that bug! Hasn't this fall's weather been wonderful? I'd gladly keep it for the winter, too, but I know that isn't likely but I'm certainly enjoying it while it's here! I hope all is well with you and thanks for stopping in! :-)

Bug; Yup, I sipped away on all the donated ginger ale until it was gone and I'm starting to feel almost human again. Now it's time to get caught up on the work I wasn't able to do while I was 24 hours a day for 2 1/2 days.... um.... having a very yucky time (and that doesn't count the 2 days of regular flu symptoms that started it all,) and also catching up on some sleep; the virus didn't rest much and neither did I. Monday is going to come way too soon; I'll never get caught up on everything before then!

Thanks for checking up on me!

Keep sipping on that ginger ale. You can get dehydrated fast with GI upsets.

Bug & BriarCraft; Thanks for the Thanksgiving wishes!

Bug & Mass; Thanks for your concern; I'm feeling a lot better today... not quite 100% yet, but better. I don't know what this illness was, but it was a lot like the Pontiac Fever that was going around a few years ago. It starts out like the flu and then moves into your stomach.... and the results are not fun! But, I noticed that the chills were gone as of last night and I've been able to keep food down so far today, so I hope the worst is behind me now.

And yes, I do have lots of family who live within a couple of miles and they kindly brought me saltines and ginger ale.... my Thanksgiving dinner!

Hi Peace!

It's a much chillier day today, but thankful the sun's finally made an appearance again after yesterday's stormy soaking. I'm hoping that the forecasted return to warmth, the beginning of next week, holds true for those of us in most of Mass. It makes our extensive leaf blowing and yardwork efforts much more bearable for us (hubby and I) aged baby-boomers. LOL!

Wishing you and yours a peaceful and pleasant Veterans Day and may we never forget the courage and sacrifice it takes our military servicemen and women to protect and serve our Country. God Bless them one and all!

Yes, you're right, we've had some sleet but no measurable snow. We're actually getting a bit of "warm" weather right now.... it was 46 degrees outside last time I looked.

Hello, Bug! It's nice to see you here! Isn't it funny to think how we were so frightened by some of these old movies and now when we see them they look rather dated and campy? I still love the old films, though; and many are still surprisingly good and timeless, too. One Halloween themed movie I'll never tire of is The Ghost and Mrs. Muir with Rex Harrison and Gene Tierney and a very young Natalie Wood. I haven't had a chance to pull that one out yet this year, but I will. :-)

I hope all is well with you. It's chilly here; currently at 34 degrees and falling, but still warmer than the 28 degrees we had a few nights ago! Well, it's time to get Sammy out for his last jaunt of the evening and then to go to bed.

Good night! :-)
