WUBA Pancake Breakfast!

By: PeaceRiverBP, 6:22 PM GMT on November 12, 2007

THE BIG DAY IS HERE! WE'LL MISS THOSE OF YOU WHO AREN'T ABLE TO ATTEND BUT I'LL POST PHOTOS FROM THE EVENT IN A NEW BLOG AS SOON AS I CAN SO EVERYONE CAN SEE THE GOINGS ON!

*UPDATE*

The WUBA PANCAKE BREAKFAST day is coming up fast! I think the guest list and menu is fairly complete. We may get a few more folks (plus the WUBAn and non-WUBAn Park Rangers who might stop by here & there, but they will be working, so they probably won't be able to stay long) but please double check me and make sure that I have you listed correctly and let me know if I've made a mistake.

I'm thinking about making some homemade doughnuts and frying them up at the breakfast just to give us a little something extra to munch on. Can any of you think of anything else we need to fill out the meal?

Here are some directions so you can find the picnic pavilion we have reserved for us- it is Pavilion #1 and to get to it, after you pass through the check point where you enter the park by the front office, you drive straight until you come to a parking lot. The first paved pathway on the right leads to our Pavilion. Hubby & I will start setting up about 9 AM so we'll be ready for any early arrivals.

If you have any questions, please let me know! :-D

Hey all! Time is ticking by and the WUBA Pancake Breakfast is coming up soon, so we really need to get a head count for those who'd like to attend.

Don't feel bad if your plans have changed and you can't make it- just please let me know so we know how many people to plan for and how many pancakes we need to make!

Thanks! :-D

Hello Fellow WUBAns (Weather Underground Bloggers Anonymous)

We are planning a pancake breakfast to celebrate the end of hurricane season and everyone will be welcome to join us! Just drop me a line and I'll add you to the guest list! We decided that a central Florida location would be best so that at least most of us who live in Florida would be able to attend without having to drive too far. I'll list the time, place, guest list and list of who's going to bring what- please feel free to let me know if any corrections need to be made! I'll also list some places to stay, for those who might want to make it a weekend trip.

DATE and TIME: Sunday, December 2nd, 2007 9AM to 2PM (the park is open until sunset if anyone wants to stay longer and do some exploring.)

LOCATION: Paynes Creek Historic State Park, 888 Lake Branch Road, Bowling Green, FL. There is a $2.00 per car entry fee to get in, but we'll have restrooms and a nice pavilion with electricity and water for our party. I haven't had much success with posting links, but you can copy & paste this address for the park to check it out: http://www.floridastateparks.org/paynescreek/default.cfm

For those who want to enjoy the Park after breakfast, you can bring your walking shoes and hike the many nature trails or you can kayak/canoe Paynes Creek and the Peace River or go to the Visitor's Center and learn the Park's history; they show an educational movie at 11am, 1pm & 3 pm on weekends in the Visitor's Center theater. There are a lot of critters here! Bring your binoculars! There's great birding, plus, if you're lucky you'll see one of the many bobcat that live in the area. There are gators in the water, so be on the look-out for those, too!

Wanda took it upon herself to make this WUnderful flyer for our party! She did a really great job!

Possible places to stay in the area (We haven't been to any of them, so we can't recommend any, I'll add more as I find them):

Best Western: the only 'name brand' place in town: http://book.bestwestern.com/bestwestern/selectHotel.do

Fort Meade Motel: 863-285-8040

Camping:

The Paynes Creek HSP has primitive 'youth' campsites that might be available for tent campers- I'll ask the Park's manager about this.

Crystal Lake Village, 237 Maxwell Road, Wauchula, FL, 1-800-661-3582 or 941-773-3582
Web Site: crystallakevillage.com

I'll start a list of those interested in participating here and what they are volunteering to supply.

We also will need a head count for those bringing spouse/kids/guests with them so we have enough food!

Hug a Veteran!

By: PeaceRiverBP, 4:00 PM GMT on November 04, 2007

Happy Veteran's Day!

I thought about entitling my blog "Hug a Vet" instead of "Hug a Veteran"- but there are two kinds of Vets- like the kind who gives our pets medical care, and even though they might like a hug, too, I decided it'd be less confusing if I just stuck with the latter.

Considering how much we owe our Veterans, a hug is the least we can do to show our appreciation!

Just an FYI - I posted more wedding pix on the Happy Camper's website listed in my favorite links (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/thehappycampers8-D/) if anyone wants to see them. I'm not sure whether you have to 'sign up' to use the site, but it's free.

Thanks so much to everyone who sent their good wishes to my daughter Virginia and her new husband, Chris, on their wedding day! Mother Nature made her presence known as Noel huffed and he puffed, but he couldn't blow the wedding down! We did lose electricity before the ceremony started- luckily, we had lots of candles to provide light and a fireplace for warmth! It was a wonderful evening!
I took over 180 photos at the wedding, but about a third of them weren’t any god due to poor lighting and people walking in front of the shot as I took the shot, but I'll post some of the best ones here.

Thank you again, to all who posted on the last blog!

I’ll leave this one up for a little while until I set up the new WUBA Pancake Breakfast Blog!
