Hi PWS owners!

I have a few updates to reports back on the PWS dashboard fixes. We are still diligently working on all of the bugs you have found and launched a few more fixes this past week or so.

1) Under "Graphs and History", the timestamp has been added to the graph line.

2) Have added high and low temps on the tables for the past week, past month, past year and custom views.

3) The solar and uv graphs are now hidden when you view the past week, past month, past year, and custom views, as we don't have the summary data for those variables for these time periods.

4) Some stations were loading a blank page for the dashboard and this has been fixed.

As always, please feel free to leave your feedback and comments here. We appreciate your support and patience while we continue working on the PWS Dashboard.

Thanks,
Kari

Just a little note regarding units. In example rainfall rate should be in inches/hour and pressure inches of mercury etc.

Kari,

Thank you for listening to all of our comments and feedback. The new dashboard is much better today since you redesigned the entire page.  :-)

Yes, we are working on a larger scale addition to our website - being able to change units. We want to add a setting for units so you can select specifically what units you would like to see. But the tricky part is that we want to make sure it is reflected across the website, not just on the PWS Dashboard. This will take a bit longer to work into our site, but just know that it is in the works!

Kari,

Why are you ignoring all the reports of the broken wind speed indicator? Its been broken for well over a month now. I just checked my page and it is still broken.

The speed only updates if you refresh the entire page. The wind direction indicator is still moving around based on the latest data from my station, (every 2 seconds) but the wind speed is static and will only display a new speed value when you force a refresh of the entire page.

Hits to our WU page is down by over 70% this month and I know that a lot of this has to do with the broken wind speed indicator. I have received dozens of emails from our local userbase complaining to us about your broken wind speed indicator. I have told them that we have no control over this feature and our station is sending the data to you.

Would be nice if I could give these folks some info on when this is going to be fixed.

Check the posts here. There are a bunch of reports of this problem on this comments section and the previous blog post comment section as well.

I am sorry you feel ignored. We have made note of this problem and have been working on it. If there are still problems on the next update to the PWS Dashboard, please continue to let us know!
Thanks,
Kari

1) When selecting the time period for plotting or tabular reporting, allow the user to select the "Current" week, month or year in its entirety without having to specify a custom range. For example, if one were to select the current month, only the values from the first of the month to the current day would be reported. The current functionality only allows you to select the "Past" week, month or year.

2) After plotting a day, week, month, or year of data, I would like the ability to scroll to the previous or next day, week, month, or year by clicking either a left or right arrow.

3) I would like the ability to create tabular reports with summary data over a user selected period of time. For example, an annual report with a summary of the monthly average, min and max values for each value (as opposed to the current design that gives a table of all daily values in the time period, along with the summary of the average, min and max values for the ENTIRE time period selected).

I am seeing the same thing with my station, and I am equally frustrated that there has not been even an acknowledgement of the problem. I have started uploading my data also to Weatherbug, which only updates every minute, but that's better than the broken WU. I'm thinking I'll just stop uploading to WU until the problem is fixed.
Same here. What is interesting is that the Rapid Fire flash page shows wind updates but only every minute whereas before it was every couple of seconds. I am also using the Android app and it has the same wind speed issue, no updates unless you refresh it. Glad to see it isn't just me, I was beginning to question my upload software.

When setting custom views for the graph, it will ONLY show one year, regardless of the start and end date.

Example: If I set start date for Jan 1, 2012 and end date May 16, 2014, I only get a graph for 2012.

http://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-stat ion/dashboard?ID=KAZMAYER4#history/s20120101/e2014 0517/mcustom

On the CLASSIC page, I can get a graph for the ENTIRE range!

Some things I would like to see.

1. bring back sky and cloud conditions to stations reporting this. Your old site displayed cloud conditions in the tabular section.

2. Add leaf wetness, soil moisture and soil temperature to graphs and tabular. Put solar, UV, Leaf wetness, Soil moisture and Soil temperature in rapid fire.

3. put solar radiation and UV back into the tabular section as you had on the old WU.

4. "The solar and uv graphs are now hidden when you view the past week, past month, past year, and custom views, as we don't have the summary data for those variables for these time periods. "
I thinkSomehow you need to find a way to provide solar and UV graphs for those longer periods.
Here is a suggestion, how about graphing highs and averages for solar and UV. This information is valuable in longer time periods. I have to use my software or Mesowest to see solar radiation in longer time frames. I'm also thinking of my station's viewers. Many houses in my neighborhood have solar panels on the roof. Offering extended solar information would help out the neighbors who already partially rely on this info.

Kari,
Once again, I URGE you to please post a list of problems/bugs/"bad features" which you are working to correct and their current status. This would help all of us who would like to help YOU improve/fix this new site. To paraphrase an old quote, "Those who don't know a problem/bug/"bad feature" has been reported are doomed to repeatedly report them!".

By the way, when do you anticipate having the solar data back in the tables??
Gary

Hi Gary,

This blog and the support link at the bottom of the PWS Dashboard are the places to submit suggestions and or bugs. Please continue to use these as we have been compiling a list and are working on making fixes daily. Solar graphs will be back in the next version. Also, the issues with precip data should also be fixed with the next update in a couple of weeks.

Thanks,
Kari

Hi,

Thanks for all the edits you are doing to the new site and dashboard. It is making change a lot less painful.

I noticed that you haven't provided a link to a pws' personal web site. I have used those in the past to find out more about how the station was set up and stuff. Is that going to be added back somewhere??

Thanks,

Tables for a custom date range don't show the current day - e.g. 5/1 to 5/12 only displays data for 5/1 to 5/11.

Also, in the daily table (e.g. "Today"), the precip column is labeled "Precipitation IN", which implies total precipitation in inches, but you are actually displaying the precipitation rate.

Same here. Please fix this. thank you. otherwise everything is looking great! I'd like to get graphs and table comparison options in the "Nearby Weather Stations" section. that would be great! I'm sure you are also aware that the major stations history/graphs are still showing in the old format, would be nice if that were updated as well. Keep it up!

I still think there is a problem with downtime -- rather -- what to do if a site is ''not reporting''.

Our closest site has been ''not reporting'' for a couple of days.  I can click ''find a nearby PWS'' and get a number but I cannot a page showing the history of THAT site.

"3) The solar and uv graphs are now hidden when you view the past week, past month, past year, and custom views, as we don't have the summary data for those variables for these time periods."

I hope the plan isn't to permanently hide the solar and uv graphs when viewing historical information. It is valuable data. And how can you not have summary data; hasn't that information been being submitted for years?

I don't have as much of a problem with those two but viewers want wind info in near-real-time and that needs to be addressed soonest. Three weeks plus w/o so much as an acknowledgment isn't acceptable.

It is very odd that they seem to be totally ignoring this issue as well as our reports on it. The rapid fire wind speed and direction feature of the WU PWS page is the primary feature that makes this site unique to fans of our station, and provides a feature no other weather site with our data can offer, including our own!

I really hope they fix this problem soon. As far as I am concerned, fixing the broken wind speed widget trumps all other current bugs and feature requests in terms of urgency!

And our user base is echoing what your users are saying about this broken feature!

It is the only complaint we are getting emailed to us from our user base. Most folks could care less about most of the esoteric features, graphs etc. I see being talked about on here. They want their real time wind speed feature back ASAP!

Wind Speed values are still not updating in real time (Rapid Fire). The speed stays static until you refresh the entire page and then a new current speed is displayed. Compass Rose appears to be working and moving with each new station update, but the speed within the circle is still broken.

This has been broken like this for over three weeks now. I have reported it several times but have yet to see it fixed, or even acknowledged as being investigated.

Seems like a pretty major bug to allow to go unaddressed for this long.

Urm--not quite, and actually I like what I see better than what you describe.

As of 9:40 p.m. MDT April 9, 2014, in viewing the graphs page for my own station (KNMALBUQ102) I believe I see that my solar and UV do display for "past week".  Also they display for some cases of  "custom", seemingly in the case that the date range is short enough--about eight days inclusive.  In a test example, April 17 - April 25 suppressed UV and solar, while April 18 - April 25 displayed both.  This was true for these date ranges both in 2014 and in 2013.

I hope I am not just seeing the previous release, and it will become as you stated soon.

Thanks, by the way.
