The new PWS History Page (which we’re calling the “Dashboard”), has been launched. The Dashboard includes the weather summary data, graphs, and data tables for your PWS. It also has a number of feature improvements that PWS owners have asked for over the past few months, including:

• real-time weather data, radar, and view of your webcam (if you have one)
• an interactive “Nearby PWS" map so you can compare station data
• brand new interactive graphs of your PWS data
• the ability to delete single entries in the data tables

You can see the PWS Dashboard (beta) here:
http://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-stat ion/dashboard?ID=[ insert PWS ID ]

We know that the switch from the PWS History page to the Dashboard was an abrupt transition. We’ve received a lot of feedback on the product, and we’re going to work hard over the next few weeks to make the Dashboard something that PWS owners can use and love every day. Please be patient with us while we work out the last few bugs and feel free to comment on this blog with any feedback or questions you may have about the new Dashboard.

I love the new look and easy of finding the data and history I want to see. The only thing I see lacking is a rain history of some sort. I like to compare my stations rainfall from year to date of the current year to previous years.

In the spirit of helping note that the Schooner Cove (KNYEASTS5) graphical display is still screwed up. When it expands the graph to fill the page it is expanding the vertical scale too, until it mostly disappears off the graph. For that matter, consider not expanding the graphs at all. Most displays already resolve the sampling frequency. And if you want to see something really foolish, look at what happens when you expand the graphs at 12:10am. Pretty useless.

Also note that the little icons you call up are not available on my system (Firefox 29.0 on a 64-bit Linux system).

Good luck.

While we hear your frustration with the new dashboard and are working on fixing it, please be assured its development was purely within Weather Underground. Our goal was to make a fresher page that allows owners to get information quickly, but we understand we missed that mark in several places. We are working to fix these issues.

You didn't miss the mark; you burned down the barn and now are wondering why there is no place to affix your target. Ready, fire, aim.

When my wife saw the decimated site, her first comment was "What happened to all the information?" Her second was "It looks like a screencap from a video game aimed at 4-year olds."

If Weather Underground had any decency or respect for the people who contribute the data, they would roll back this dog's breakfast and restore the original site.

Understanding the causes of such a massive fail would be an interesting project. What you are hearing isn't disappointment. It is anger and disgust. You have insulted your base and destroyed value rather than adding to it. What you do in response to such a grotesque error will demonstrate the character and capabilities of Weather Underground. Given what I've see so far, my expectations are extremely low.

Since I haven't received any replies or feedback from my earlier post, I'm posting my input again. Hopefully I will see these problems fixed on the next update.

The monthly and yearly graphs only show averages for temperature and dew point, not the high and lows.

I would like to see buttons for PREVIOUS day, week, or month and NEXT day, week, or month  instead of the pull-down menu for these options.

Also, the custom search feature is way off. When I searched for Aug. 24-Aug 26 2013, the Tabular Weather History for 24 Aug 2013 - 26 Aug 2013 gives me Aug 24 through Sept 24 with incorrect Weather Summary data in the upper boxes.

http://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-stat ion/dashboard?ID=KAZMAYER4#history/data/s20130824/ e20130826/mtoday

On the new forecast page http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/h dfForecast?query=34.283%2C-112.199&sp=KAZMAYER 4 , the Rapid Fire does not update automatically like it did before in the list of Weather Stations towards the bottom of the page. It take minutes now, instead of seconds to show any changes.

Check out the Classic page which is still working correctly:  http://classic.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweath er/getForecast?query=86333

Thank you,

Pamela

After posting my post I opened yours to find you have the same suggestions as I. Let's hope WU pays attention to our suggestions.

In this format it is of no use to me so I guess I'll be removing my weather station from WU and just carry on using my own website. Trouble is I've got the remember how to remove the WU lines from the Raspberry Pi server!

THIS MESSAGE WAS ALSO SENT TO help@wunderground.com:
Dear Kari,

I am writing you as a long time user of the Wunderground as my preferred interface for my two personal weather stations.

My intention is NOT to complain or criticize the new platform. Rather it is to encourage you to build upon all your work to make the new format better. I find that for my use, several useful things that were in the former platform now are not available.

My take on the new layout is that you followed the direction that Apple took in designing iOS 7, clean and simple. The result: A nice looking page. Kudos! Sadly though, the old layout was much easier to navigate, especially when you wanted to compare different timeframes. Here’s my thoughts:

  • The old format gave both graphs and tables on one page. Now you have to toggle between tables and pages. Extra clicks to see the data.
  • If you want to look at yesterday you now have to use a drop-down menu and select it. Again, extra steps. There’s plenty of room to put “Back” and “Forward” arrows on the page so one can click, click, click and compare three days of graphs (and tables, see above)
  • If you want to look at a month of data you would get a graph showing the high and low for each day of the month. Now you get an average temperature for each day. What good is that?
  • In the precipitation table data it used to give a rate/total for each time period. Now it appears to give only the rate (I think, not sure) The total daily precipitation is shown at the top, but it’s great to be able to look at how much rain fell from 3:00 to 4:00PM for example and there is no way to determine that.

In short, keep the look, but reorganize the data into fewer screens and improve navigation using buttons.

Herb Klinker

KFLMTDOR3
IUMBRIAM3

ADDENDUM: I agree with many others that it's very difficult to find data. I do like the slider on the graph, nice touch.

We understand your frustration. Our main goal within the Weather Underground office now is to fix the PWS Dashboard's bugs as well as adjust the look-and-feel so that it is more useful to PWS owners.

Think about adjusting the look and feel first, then work on correcting bugs in this new design. Hearing you talk about fixing bugs in your current design tells me that that you have no plans to make the changes people are asking for. If that's true, let us know now. Don't do like you did with the beta dashboard by asking for comments without telling us that your developing a new design for Weather Underground.

Ah, progress. I just now clicked on my weather site, and was very happy to see in the graphs tab view for "graphs and history" that both UV and solar appeared as additional graphs to those previously present.

I'm greedy and still dare hope they will both soon appear in the tables view, but already I am much happier than I was.

Thank you.

[I am retired from beta checkout on upgrades to Hospital Information systems.]

I know that most end-users really hate upgrades.

That said, the new pages are bad enough I have gone to other sources, and, I don't even need weather information. I use it for recreational gardening.

Were this a hospital system we would have to go back to running the old system in parallel.

After checking out my weekly, monthly and yearly summary graphs on the Classic Wunderground page,I discovered that the NEW Dashboard PWS temperature graphs (monthly and yearly) only show the "AVERAGE" temperatures, not the highs and lows. This doesn't make any sense at all! Please fix this!
  • NEW 12 month graph: Link
  • NEW 12 month table: Link

There are problems with the graphs. My maximum high last year was 112 on June 28, 2013, but the graph only shows 97 on June 28. The graph doesn't show any temperatures above 100 degrees!

Hello Team,
The new dashboard is beautiful! I like the presentation/readability and functionality. While there will always be ways to improve it, I just wanted to give the team kudos for a job well done.
Don't let the complaints get you down. There's always resistance to change. I'm sure the feedback and suggestions will make for an even better experience.

Hello Weather Underground:

I like the new look of the underground website and station information much more modern and cleaner. I noticed though curent condition update only occurs every 20 seconds or so. This is the screen that shows current wind direction, temperature, wind speed, rainfall, pressure etc. The classic view does update every 2-5 seconds which is great for wind direction changes during storms.

I cannot get the graphs for my PWS to scale correctly. The vertical axis only shows two degrees (48 at the bottom and 50 at the top). Therefore, I cannot see any temperatures outside this narrow range. Reloading the page does not fix this problem.

Also, the graphs page does not live update. If I look at the graph at 0800, I see graphs up to that time. If I leave that page open and check again at 1400, I have to refresh the page to see the new data. The old page didn't require the refresh.

If I need to delete any readings from the table view, I am happy to find the delete buttons at both the top and bottom of the view. This is great as it can save me from needing to scroll all the way back up the page. However, clicking one of those delete buttons brings up a confirmation dialog that is only displayed at the top of the page. So much for not needing to scroll.

I believe the new site was not ready for rollout as there are too many bugs and other issues that should have been caught before general release.

Regarding the problem with some weathercams not appearing as they should.......Mine was among the missing. The problem was a lost association between my PWS and the weathercam. After signing in, I went to My WebCams settings and clicked "edit" next to the webcam, then found a box unchecked which associated the webcam to the PWS. After checking the box the problem was gone. Hope this helps others with same problem.

The new "dashboard" is terrible. This can't be excused. The display has been decimated, reduced to uselessness, perhaps to enable displays on mobile devices. There are better ways; it is common for thoughtful sites to detect the kind of device/browser and respond accordingly.

Or perhaps weather.com really just wants to kill wunderground. If so, it may work. This is so terrible that I will probably take the time to display weather data on my own website. I won't waste my time and donate my data to support garbage like this.

Webcams have stopped functioning on some pages. On this page, the webcam shows an exasperated stick figure with the text "Missing webcam":

On this page, two of our three webcams appear (but not the one mounted by the station):
http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/h dfForecast?query=19.511%2C-101.607&sp=IMICHOAC 7

And on the Wundermap, four cameras appear (one is duplicated by Wunderground).

http://www.wunderground.com/webcams/signup.html?M R=1
shows that all three cameras are active, and my Meteobridge shows that it is uploading properly.

I have seen this problem before -- cameras are just fine on the Wundermap but are not transferred to the station's homepage.

Overall, I find this new interface very disappointing and the bugs inexcusable after supposed beta testing. Reminds me of the mess that Yahoo made of their Groups several months ago.

When I look at "Past Week" history in tabular form, there is no time stamp by any of the data rows, making it completely useless. In Graph form, the slider displays the data values but not the time stamp.

Using the "Nearby PWS" tab shows another station, but clicking on that station doesn't go to its page, which is counter-intuitive in a point-and-click interface. One has to then click on "View in WunderMap" which re-centers and re-scales the display, find the nearby PWS manually, and then click on THAT to get a popup that FINALLY lets you get to that station by clicking on "Visit local weather page for XXX". And when I do that, I get a popup that says "Working closely with our users, we’ve reorganized our pages to present data in a more intuitive and customizable way, so you can quickly access the weather information you want." At least that gave me my laugh for the day. Quickly access the weather information I want??? Not!

You can switch over to the tabular data to see the exact timestamp. But yes, having a timestamp appear when you hover would be nice too. We will look into adding this. Thanks for your support and patience while we continue working on this.

I rather like the new PWS Dashboard. I don't even mind it being called a Dashboard. I particularly like the Graphs ans History tab. It's far more interesting than the old tabular format.

Why don't the graphs on the page update in realtime? I have to refresh the page to get the most current information graphed. Even when the page is refreshed there a discrepancies with what's displayed on the Current Conditions tab.

Well I waited to let it settle a bit and think about it before I commented, however my first impression is still my impression, "OMG what have they done!". I guess all good things must come to an end. If the classic goes away then so do I.

Many different entities have used the data provided by the dedicated PWS owners such as local TV and Radio stations, educational institutes, farmers and ranchers, local governments etc. Now what will they see? They will see the fluff and no meat. No tabular data on the first page? Hmm.... not good. Do they know how to get to Classic Weather Underground? I did not see a link to to change over to it or, did I miss something?

I think WU may have shot themselves in the foot.

I am not a PWS owner. I do depend on local PWSs to know what's going on near me as the nearest NWS is 50 miles away. You make it darned difficult.

And what's with "dashboard" anyway? This isn't a car. ;- }
(All right, I do know that's the newest jargon for summary page, but why not just say summary page? Too intuitive, I guess.)

I know this is off topic, but I haven't been able to get an answer to this anywhere else. The Record Extremes map you had and still have seems to have stopped posting record hi max, low min, etc daily or monthly records on the map. It's in your Climate Change Record Extremes section of the site. It was an easy way to see nationally where records were being set. Now the most recent data is in February. Can anyone shed any light on this?

I have to agree, I do not like the changes. The colors are too muted. Radar map needs to list the site the radar is from. Radar map is too zoomed in. Should start Zoomed OUT to at least show the entire state.
I LIKE the line that moves across on the history page and shows the actual reading at that point that is a keeper.
The new LOGO is really nice and bright.

Bring back the Solar Radiation history graph. I really need it.

I live in an agricultural area in which the nearest official NWS WX is so different than the local conditions that it is almost irrelevant. Therefore I put my PWS on Wunderground as a service to the people in the surrounding townships. The general public in the area have passed along the link to my station on Wunderground, but they don't really understand that I only supply the data, Wunderground decides what to do, or not do with it.

I found out about the changes to the site when a neighbor called me this morning to ask what was wrong "my" site. He could not find the graphs and history info that he needed. I logged in and was shocked at what had been done!

Aside from the hunt and search now needed to find information, I see that people now must click on the "PWS Status Message" in order to get status information. How is the general public going to know this??? I use the Status Message to let people know when the station is down for maintenance or if equipment is not working properly.

Please fix this mess, or I will no longer bother uploading to Wunderground. I'll use my own PWS website, I do not need you.

It (current conditions page) needs collapsible segments, i.e., minimizing the "community" "almanac" "nearby" etc., like on the old current conditions page. That would be the single, most widely appreciated improvement. Too much unnecessary "real estate" now.

Contrary to a post in the blogs by admin, "clutter" is not necessarily a bad thing. On the "history" page (or dashboard ?), "data" is inherently "clutter". And measuring weather is usually a lot of "data".

Also, thank you for discontinuing the "tropical alert banner" like on the old current conditions page. At least I hope it stays removed.

I like the "compare nearby pws", but when I zoom out, my station gets removed/overwritten by the next closest pws station, as if this other station is a higher priority. Don't like that especially when it happens on "my dashboard". This has been a continuing annoyance on the "old" pages and also the "wundermap".

this has been a terrible start for those of us who have stations on the site. This new dashboard is evil. There have been many comments noting what is wrong with it and nothing has been done to fix most of them... NO SOLAR OR UV INFO... MANY STATION OWNERS USE THIS INFO DAILY. The graphs are bizarre to say the least... the forecast info is pathetic... I guess this is what happens when companies are bought out by The Weather Channel Companies (Bain Capitol, and BLACKROCK).... They will drain it all the pieces of value, screw them up and then sell the remains to a gullible public, I for one will not be participating in this cluster #$%^ any longer. I am now using my alternate site at http://www.findu.com/. Kari, you have taken your eye off the ball. It is obvious that you do not have a weather station nor any real interest in those who do.

Where is the solar radiation history data? it's completely missing. I hope this will be fixed soon.
My history data shows a -436 mph for wind speed on January 24 - oops!
I'm also having problems with the altitude for my station: -3 feet? I changed it back, let's see if it takes.

The new dashboard is not showing my station elevation correctly. It was showing correctly in the old version (276'). New dashboard shows 331'. Also does not show my associated webcam automatically like it used to. I can log on and change the settings, but after I log off, the elevation goes back to the wrong number and the webcam disappears. Please fix. Thanks.

Well, my weather station isn't anywhere near this site. Not sure how we are supposed to find our own weather station

The new page format feels like I'm reading the Reader's Digest large print edition. I suppose I can get used to it.

Meh, don't like the new page at all. Rapid Fire hasn't worked reliably in IE since you started messing around changing things. This still occurs, Rapid Fire does not always work.
