After all the Jacks have left their boxes and the clowns have all gone to bed You can hear happiness staggering on down the street Footprints dressed in red And the wind whispers Mary

● 8.35am The temperature has nudged up a bit to 75° since the 72° overnite low at 4.50am & humidity is 89% relative. The skies have cleared. The day begins, the clowns may return...
Today should be slightly warmer than yesterday - 91°
However, that temp is not etched in stone, nor is it my own idea. It is a PointCast for my insignificant area by the Weather Service. Read more just below about yesterday's surprising duplicate rain fall. I was unavailable, elsewhere then, and did not update last nite.

Last Update for the Situation-- they are standing still
There are many storms East of here but the mixdown of the Drier Air from Kansas has controlled our rainless half-cloudy day.
Hard to know exactly where to look & hard to see the NE-SW lying clouds have nearly reached the Red River here, and will very likely be rain filled. Click it for high resolution.

Yes ter Day
● 1pm The temp was not at all that high, as 87° but the H.I. was 95 and Solar Rads 1150 W/m2 (watts per square meter), the highest so far this year. Within 30 minutes everything changed. First at 1.15 the Winds Gusted from the NNE at 25mph, ushering in the storm. Next: Temp plummeted 14° to 73, H.I. fell off the chart, Solar Rads went to 0 (the sky was completely overcast from dense high clouds); all this all at once and then it began to rain 0.7 inches in 15 minutes (a downpour). By 3.15 the H.I. tied its earlier reading, temp was 84 and solar rads peaked the same as before.
2-Day Rain Total 1.4 in. A dent in the drought has started. Another 6 in. by the end of July and crops will grow and cattle will have grass to eat.
As for the rest of you, this prolonged lack of rain was a warning to the polluters who live in denial. There is a microclimate in this area where I live, quickly altered by passenger truck fumes, controlled burns of tree stumps left from cut down trees, burning leaves, and mostly the ignorant attitude many polluters have that defies common sense and reason and who insist they can destroy, poison the water, cut, burn and smoke up the skies whenever they want. I differ with this attitude. We should be thankful for this pristine area we have that is slowly appearing on the EPA Watchlist.
Monday the day before yesterday
This afternoon was surprising. because it finally rained!
I heard the thunder and got between my satiny sheets to rest, ignoring the skies, and the air machine. Too many times had I watched too many promising storms simply fade away while I reported them here for Many hours, almost all bewildering wastes of time. When I heard a louder thunderclap I came here(to my blog) and checked the WunderMap® only to have multiple power outages from cloud-to-ground lightning. It did rain 0.7 inches from 4.30-5pm -- heralded by a 35mph gust from the North, with a Δ T = -16°. The Temp fell 16° from 89 -73 in 20 min(4.50-5.10pm)
I'm reporting in-depth because this was significant weather and the National Weather Service was right, while giving themselves leeway to be right even if it didn't rain!

Welcome to the new Drought.
BROKEN BOW LAKE, LAKE OF THE PINES, AND MARTIN LAKE HAVE EXHIBITED MORE IMPACT FROM THE DEVELOPING DROUGHT AS POOL STAGES HAVE FALLEN SOME THREE AND A HALF TO NEARLY FIVE FEET BELOW NORMAL
Read all about it instead of worrying about roasting hotdogs on an outdoor grill during a burn-ban. Be glad the Fires to our West have not spread East... yet! The drought will not be over until 7 inches of rain occur slowly in the next few weeks.

A UV Index reading of 8 to 10 means VERY HIGH risk of harm from unprotected sun exposure. Minimize sun exposure during midday hours, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Protect yourself by liberally applying a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15. Wear protective clothing and sunglasses to protect the eyes. Take extra precautions. Unprotected skin will be damaged and can burn quickly. Minimize sun exposure between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Otherwise, seek shade, cover up, wear a hat and sunglasses, and use sunscreen. Take all precautions. Unprotected skin can burn in minutes. Beachgoers should know that white sand and other bright surfaces reflect UV and will increase UV exposure. Seek shade, cover up, wear a hat and sunglasses, and use sunscreen.
*The UV Index is predicted by the National Weather Service each day for the following day.
