Glad you are back Bug....
Bug I had hoped to put you on the plane with me but with all the TSA problems they probably would have thought you were a weapon. So I am glad you decided to go for a ride with the UPS guys. You were packed so cozy in the box with our fishing clothes and made it to my house in perfect shape. I know it must have been kind of hard to sleep with all that noise in from the UPS guys in Louisville.

Flat Bug tired after a long hike on the Homer Spit.

First for those who are new WU bloggers Flat Bug was made by Palmenttobug who lives in Charleston, NC to represent herself. The first big meet and greet for WU bloggers was held in Central Florida by PeaceRiver. It was a breakfast. This took place in 2007. Beth (PR) made pancakes for all of us who attended the meet and greet. Another of our WU bloggers collected from each of us gifts for underprivileged kids as this breakfast was held at Christmas time. These gifts were given to a Firestation that was helping give kids a good Christmas. PB was not able to attend so she made a replica of herself and sent it to Peace. Over the past five years flat Bug has visited many places with many different hostesses.

Her last home for a year was in Sterling, Alaska with Alaskasnowluvr. This is a very busy household with two teenage boys and a dad that hunts and fishes. Bug had a wonderful time while she was there but was ready to come back to the lower 48. On my last trip to Alaska I picked Bug up from Alaskasnowluvr in Sterling. Bug will be with me for a while as she decides where she would like to go next

Sterling Alaska
Located 29 miles east of Kenai and 2-3 hours from Anchorage, Sterling enjoys a brisk tourist trade with a focus on sportfishing and hunting. Visitors to the area can book guided fishing adventures or hunting trips..

Hugs all around. This was the first time I met Tori (Alaskasnowluvr) in person. This was the formal changing of Bug's address from Sterling, Alaska to Winter Springs, Florida.

I will list the dates and hostess that Bug has visited in my next post. I will also post some pictures as I get them loaded into the computer.

List of hostesses and dates Bug spent time with them.

December 2007-Spring 2009 PeaceRiver (Beth)
Spring 2009 (SBKaren) Karen-California

There is a good article in the New York times on the sale of WU. Right now I am at work and can't link it. But you should be able to find it.

Good Morning, OGal!

Wanted to drop by and wish you and yours A VERY SAFE & HAPPY 4TH OF JULY! Hopefully, with the sale of Wunderground to "The Weather Channel", the higher ups won't change or eliminate the blogs on this website. I'd be lost without the abililty to catch up with our wonderfully supportive group of WU friends!

Ditto.....
Quoting hurricanecrab:
I'm not happy about the sale of WU either, but let's look at what it might mean, in terms of our own experience here.

First, why would TWC want Wunderground? It must be active and a good investment. It is not the maps that make it active. It is not entirely the maps and the IR, Radar, etc. that bring people here. It seems sensible and logical that they would want to keep the blogs -- and perhaps even the administration of everything -- the same.

If Dr. Master et al left here, then I think it would be a sorrowful thing, because the actual weather PEOPLE, are and have always been the heart of this site, and it has been run with integrity and stellar moderation, without sacrificing their humanity. Then there are the rest of us, that provide the activity -- the blogs, photos and real-time weather discussion -- that translates into activity and advertizing.

From a member point-of-view, it's very inexpensive to be here. That would suggest to me that there are a LOT of people who come to the site without paying a membership, and they are important, because of the advertising which probably pays the bills. Wunderground seems a sound investment.

That's all my verbose way of casting my hope and energy out there to the NewWU owners that they don't forget their following nor discontinue the existing staff (not implying that they would).

Dr. Masters says " The Weather Channel is committed to keeping the Weather Underground brand and the web site in its current form." I believe him. He also says that he will keep his blog here.

I hope.

Crab and Shore thanks for the good words. I just hope you are right. I just have seen these kind of promises go down the drain when the deal is complete. I guess why mess with something that is so successful. Shore that was really such a nice article. Thank you for posting it.

Karen congratulations to your momma. A life well lived. Look forward to your Tahoe pictures. It is fun seeing how the boys have grown from year to year. As far as not being here for a while we all understand. Just have lots of fun.

Sometimes change can be good. I don't see anything different yet, and it would be silly to change a good thing.

I probably won't be around too much until after our vacation, so if anything changes, maybe it will be then.

I have a lot going on this week with my mom's 85th birthday, company and getting ready for a camping trip. I'll catch up with you all when I get home (or maybe before!).

Have a Happy Fourth if I don't see you!

You know what just occurred to me? Steve Gregory was around last fall, saying he would be here this hurricane season to blog - anyone seen him around? I haven't. I wonder if this change put the kabosh on that?

Here's the MarketWatch story on the merger.

All of the above is true, shore and crab.

Thing is, when DocM started answering questions over there, sounded like a lot of things that concern wu members "have not been discussed" and remain uncertain.

One thing certain, this is a monumental change.

I really don't think Armageddon has arrived. Doc Masters put it in his blog entry:

We will now be called Weather Underground, LLC, and will maintain the wunderground.com web site as it is.

Take a nice, deep, breath and let's see what happens. My hunch is that the biggest change will be that Jeff gets to beat the AGW drum on TWC. ;)

I am not happy either!!!! I don't care for the Weather Channel website. Weather Underground is like a family. I really hope that the Weather Channel will leave this part of their company alone, but corporations like to put their own spin on their own products. We may be scrambling to find another place.

So what do we get from this divorce?? Al Roeker and Stephanie Abrams don't know anything about us. Do you think they would even care? All our wonderful weather links will most likely be gone. Look at all the support we have given you Dr. Masters. You didn't even let us know you were considering this major move.

Oh and Cantore....excuse me.

So now we switch to Torcon.....yuck.

Passwords - I have a sheet of paper with my passwords on.... well not the actually passwords but clues like
- usual, ten or extra. I have a password I use for all no important things, then one with ten letter/characters for more important things and one with even extra characters for really important things.

If I forget any password I just look to see which it is!

Hope you had a great weekend and have a special day set for Wednesday :)

As I had no computer yesterday, I will wish you White Rabbitsx3 and a happy month, today :)

Bug so happy you are going to have a great time with Crab. Try not to sit in the hot tub because the water will seep under the laminate and you will crumble to nothing.

It was unusually hot and muggy today -- usually the wind keeps the humidity reasonable -- ......... and OBug decided to curl up. Literally.

I told her that would be painful in the morning, so she elected to rest up in a flat place and join us for bush cutting tomorrow. I'm planning on firing up the solar circulator to heat up the hot tub early enough for it to be toasty when the work is done.

Not sure she'll let me take a photo, but if so, you'll hear it here first. :D

It's okay. I know how to get rid of crabs in the Brac or anywhere. You pour on some sand, then you pour on some alcohol, and they all get drunk and throw rocks at each other.
