First for those who are new WU bloggers Flat Bug was made by Palmenttobug who lives in Charleston, NC to represent herself. The first big meet and greet for WU bloggers was held in Central Florida by PeaceRiver. It was a breakfast. This took place in 2007. Beth (PR) made pancakes for all of us who attended the meet and greet. Another of our WU bloggers collected from each of us gifts for underprivileged kids as this breakfast was held at Christmas time. These gifts were given to a Firestation that was helping give kids a good Christmas. PB was not able to attend so she made a replica of herself and sent it to Peace. Over the past five years flat Bug has visited many places with many different hostesses.

Her last home for a year was in Sterling, Alaska with Alaskasnowluvr. This is a very busy household with two teenage boys and a dad that hunts and fishes. Bug had a wonderful time while she was there but was ready to come back to the lower 48. On my last trip to Alaska I picked Bug up from Alaskasnowluvr in Sterling. Bug will be with me for a while as she decides where she would like to go next.

I will list the dates and hostess that Bug has visited in my next post. I will also post some pictures as I get them loaded into the computer.

Oh, my gosh! You didn't have OtherBug with you on your trip, did you? I hope you did! I've been missing her!

I've been by to see your pics and read your description about the fishing. I am mightily impressed with your skills! And there's nothing better than halibut for eating, when it comes to fish. I like seafood better than fish generally, but flounder and halibut (which is just a big flounder, yes?) are good enough I could eat them every day.

Wasn't the jubilee great? I hope the Prince is doing well - so sad that he ended up in hospital.

Will be watching for your news!

Fox, Homer Fish Processing won't have the fish to us until Tues. I just hope the flash freezing won't hurt the flavor. Probably have the first next weekend.

Evening OGal:
I wish I could be there for the halibut.
One thing my fishing buddy told me when we checked how our big fish was hooked and I see your picture where the hooks are in the belly and the gills:
If the Hali is not hungry at the time it will simply lay on the bait. When you bring the line in sometimes the hook will set . The fish never took the bait - it was waiting till later. My biggest Hali was hooked in a fin.
These fish are the Best!

Hope you are starting to feel better.. rest up and take care of yourself.
The sooner you feel better the sooner we can see all the pictures!!!

Rest up my friend!

Sandi actually only six true fishing hours. It took two hours on the ocean to get where we were going and then of course two hours going back home. The ride in the boat was not for the faint of heart either. Very choppy and in one place two tides converged. I just held my breath and knew this was really something Steve wanted to do.

Ylee all the guys on the boat were really relaxed it was we two females that were having the strength problems. It did get a little better as we learned how to handle our poles. it was the depth of the water and dragging that two pound weight up from 160 feet down. The next day I was beyond tired.

Good Afternoon, OGal!

I just read some of your humorous posts on Aubie's site and wanted to officially welcome you back from the wildlife of Alaska! I bet you and the hubby have more great fish stories to tell and, hopefully, have recovered from some of the aches and pains suffered from the aftermath. On the bright side, you may have increased your upper body strength which should come in handy while unpacking or tending to those daily chores? If not, I hope you were near a drug store that sells a large variety of analgesics. LOL!

In any case, we're all glad you had a most enjoyable trip and a safe flight home. Hope you'll post some snapshots taken while taking in some of the spectacular views!

Good Afternoon OGal!

Glad to learn that you're having a most enjoyable time while taking in the activities, sites and scenery of Alaska! Sounds like all that fishing you're doing requires a great deal of upper body strength. Kudos for catching 60 lbs worth. I well remember the days of when my Mom could economically buy large cans of authentic Alaskan King crab or canned crabmeat in our local grocery store. Naturally, those days are a by-gone era, but it's nice to be reminded of the amazingingly delicious varieties of fish, etc. contained within Alaskan waters. I would have to say that Maine used to be a close second.

Nevertheless, hope you and Steve continue to have an exciting time while visiting there, and that you'll keep us periodically posted, here on WU, of those other exciting experiences you may have listed on your Alaskan itinerary. ENJOY!

These holiday trip can be exhausting. No one could pay me to spend that long in a small boat in whatever weather waiting for a fish to bite but I'll pay to do it.
Sounds like you were not just waiting for them to bite!

Quoting OGal:
Spent ten hours Halibut fishing yesterday. Not for the faint of heart. We traveled two hours to get to our Captains special place. I lost several big fish getting the hang of setting the hook. We got a 70 plus pounder which tangled four of our hooks. Long story for Steve and me we both got our limit almost sixty pounds of fish. They were fileted on the boat and were sent to the processors to be frozen and sent to us Fedex. Whew....what a day.

Our weather has been perfect.

GREAT NEWS! ... Congratulations !

Have a wonderful time, as I'm sure you will. Just be sure to post pictures and a travel diary when you return.

I saw an old teacher last week that moved to Alaska. They live just outside of Anchorage. She is a teacher up there and loves it.

I bet you are having just a wonderful time, and thanks Ylee for the cam!!!

Heya OGal!

Wow, I am SOOOOoo envious! Alaska...... you're going to have a great time. Halibut too! Oh man, that hurt. :o))

If you're fortunate enough to spend any time in my favorite lil' place in Alaska -- Petersburg, tilt a lovely beverage to the eagles for at the Beachcomber for me (if it's still there).

Travel safely and take tons and tons of photos, okay?

Missed you in Destin! You would have laughed your assets off! We had sooo much fun!

BTW - shark or gator?

Can't wait to see your Alaska photos.... Be sure to look for Becky! She's the one loaded for bear! Haha. Seriuosly, she said she was packing heat since they were going to a very remote area, lots & lots of bears there! She also said, don't wear bells...why would you ring bells? It would only make it easier for bears to find there dinner! Haha
