Aug. 11th
back from vacation and rested and back to work. That first morning back and getting going is the toughest.Had excellent weather last week. Down on Cape cod the middle of last week, and had sunny weather, except for a late day thundershower on Wednesday.Lots of beach time and the water has warmed up to nice levels.
We are in for some very heavy rains for Wednesday this week,so will have to watch how severe weather developes and for any flooding occurs.
Notice the sunrise is much later now then before I left for vacation,so summer is definitely on the downward trend. Also of note is the lack of heat this summer. No 90 degree days for August yet,and only about 5 for the entire summer.

Aug. 12th
The setup is there for significant rain event. since this complicated system is a slow mover, the potential is there for some areas getting up to 5 inches. The greatest potential is along the higher elevations, where there will be lift. This is also a small chance of severe weather, but the greatest risk right now is along the south coast and also long island. It really depends on where the triple point low forms and then moves northeast.

Aug.13th
Heavy rain has moved into Southern New England this morning, and it is expected to be around the whole day. Depending on where the heaviest bands of rain set up,there will be some flash flooding.A very heavy band moved over Long Island this morning and moved into RI and heading up toward the Boston area and south shore. Movement is slow so expect some very high totals. 1-3 inches and many areas with some pockets of 4 or 5 inches. Not as bad as south along the Maryland and southern NJ area which received up to 10-12 inches of rain yesterday and last night.

Aug.14th
Wet weather is gone, cool dry air has moved in.Some areas received 5-10 inches of rain, such as Long Island, Rhode Island, parts of conn. and central Mass. Now some quiet weather moves in with just a slight chance of an afternoon shower for inland areas.Next chance of showers is on Sunday, but right now that is not for certain. No hot weather in sight. As things stand now,our current weather pattern will remain through the rest of the summer.

Talk about comfortable days.
70's and dewpoints in the low 50's.
Do I feel fall coming???
Since the summer really never set in, I guess fall will just feel
like more of the same.

Rhode Island and south coast had some serious flooding this morning.

Hasn'r really rained here in Maine other than sprinkles since about 0800. The radar keeps filling in to the SW, but simply breaks apart before it gets here. Maybe it will get here, maybe not.

NEw, I wanted to let you and anyone else who recognizes my name on your blog know that my husband and I have suffered a terrible thing: our precious daughter Alyson passed away suddenly, on July 28th, a few weeks after her 49th birthday. We do not yet know the cause. Her dear picture, a short obituary, and a posting I made about her this morning are on my website, www.hilarysplaces.com, in the "blogs" section.

We are utterly devastated and hardly know how to get through the days. She and I were unusually close and devoted to each other. How lucky is that...

Oh,Looking,I am so deeply sorry for your loss. That is such a devastating loss for you and your husband. I wish you and your family all my sincere condolences. I am sure you and your family will have very hard days ahead of you,but this is when family and friends will mean so much to help you through your loss. I will be thinking of you and will say many prayers for you and your family.

Hi NEw, agree with what you say about the overall Temps. but they keep saying down here near NYC, that it is pretty close to "normal". Seems a lot cooler to me. I can see that in my electric bill. A lot less than in the previous few summers.

LT,it is pretty close to normal,Our normal highs are in the low 80 to mid 80's depending on your location and that is where our hi temps have been. Lows have been pretty normal too. But the lack of 90 degree days certainly is below normal.

We lost a great entertainer yesterday in Robin Williams.
I've been a favorite of his since the early days of Mork and Mindy.
He some memorable movies also for serious side of him.
Certainly Boston will always remember him when they filmed Goodwill Hunting.

No 90F days for the coast of Maine since last September. This week and next don't look like any heat either. A good summer for keeping cooling costs down, thats for sure!

Very restful vacation, now the hard part is getting back into the routine. I have Friday off,so at least I have a shorter week to get back to.Its been a very nice summer, without any heat, some occasional humidity, but it doesn't last long. The Hudson Bay vortex has held tough through the entire summer, something I didn't think it would do,but its been persistent since last August.Who know when it will break
