April 8th
Showers some heavy during the night and early morning, but then some sun this afternoon and temps will shoot into the 60's,before a cold front moves through late today or early eve.Looks like a dry week until late Friday, and although 50's tomorrow, back into the 60's the rest of the week.
April 9th
Nice warmup yesterday although the wind didn't let you feel the warmth as much.Cold front went through early evening, with very strong winds.Cooler and breezy day today.
April 10th
After a few showers tomorrow night and Saturday morning,we'll have a couple of days in the 60's and Monday into the 70's,before a strong cold front turns us below normal starting on Wednesday.

April 11th
A little rollercoaster ride over the next week,by Monday we'll be in the 70's,last time that happened was October. Then with a strong cold front and deepening trough in the central and east, temps will come crashing down by Wednesday and end the week below normal.

Hurray! We sat out on our deck for the "cocktail hour" before dinner this evening! First time since last fall! It was about 71 degrees but in the sun it felt warmer. What a treat. Our red maple in full flower and I have a couple of branches of forsythia and cherry inside to force for the Easter table. I thought we would never get here!

HIGHLY ENERGETIC FRONTAL
COMPLEX CROSSING THE CENTRAL AND EASTERN UNITED STATES MONDAY AND
TUESDAY. RELIED ON THE 00Z/11 ECENS AND NAEFS MEANS AS SYNOPTIC
TEMPLATES, MANUALLY TIGHTENING GRADIENTS AND ADDING LARGER
MESOSCALE FEATURES WHERE CONFIDENCE WAS HIGHER. RELIANCE ON ANY
ONE OPERATIONAL MODEL WOULD EXCLUDE IMPORTANT SENSIBLE WEATHER
THREATS FOR DIFFERENT AREAS, SO KEPT AN ENSEMBLE APPROACH. A
MYRIAD OF HAZARDS ARE INDICATED FOR THE EASTERN HALF OF THE NATION
WITH THE PASSAGE OF THIS SYSTEM--INCLUDING SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS
OVER THE SOUTH, TORRENTIAL RAIN SHOWERS JUST ABOUT EVERYWHERE IN
THE WARM SECTOR, HEAVY SNOWS FROM THE CENTRAL PLAINS TO THE GREAT
LAKES, AND DAMAGING GRADIENT WINDS. ONE OF THE MOST CHALLENGING
ASPECTS OF THE WHOLE EVENT CONTINUES TO BE WHERE AND HOW MUCH SNOW
FALLS ON THE BACKSIDE OF THE FRONT IN THE EAST. MANY ENSEMBLE
MEMBERS--AS WELL AS A FEW OPERATIONAL MODELS--SHOW SIGNIFICANT
SNOWFALL ASTRIDE THE CENTRAL AND NORTHERN APPALACHIANS, WITH EVEN
THE LOWER ELEVATIONS FROM THE NORTHERN PIEDMONT TO NEW ENGLAND
APPARENTLY NOT OUT OF THE SNOW WOODS YET THIS PROTRACTED COLD
SEASON.

Still looks like a major event next week starting late Tuesday into Wednesday with winds, heavy rains and even some snow in areas once the cold air comes rushing in.This cold front is moving very slow,so moisture won't depart very quickly and the cold air will be wrapping in before it leaves.
Anyway, its turning much colder by Wednesday so any late spring to early summer weather will be gone.

And you thought Planet of the Apes was a fictional story!!!

Seven chimpanzees at the Kansas City Zoo were smart enough to use a 6-foot-long tree branch to escape their enclosure on Thursday.

But they weren't smart enough to see through the old "Want a treat? Come get a cookie!" routine.

No chimpanzees or zoo patrons were injured during Thursday's brief escape.

Apparently one chimpanzee broke a 6-foot-limb off a tree and used it to scale a wall on the top of the outdoor enclosure, said Julie Neemeyer, a spokeswoman for the Kansas City Zoo in Missouri. The ringleader then enticed six other chimpanzees to join the fun, but they didn't get far.

Zoo staff used vehicles to block potential exits, then used treats to lure the animals back into their holding building. The incident lasted about 90 minutes,

Out for a walk at lunch time and beautiful out there except for the wind. The always talk about March being the windy month, but I always find April is the windy month with all the cold fronts and tighter pressure gradients between strong high pressures and deep low pressures.

More and more signs pointing to a major spring storm that will travel across most of the US and there will be every type of weather with this system. On the NW side could be some heavy snows. Once it taps into the Gulf of Mexico,it will spawn lots of heavy rains and possible severe storms for the mid-section and Mississippi river valley,as it moves east some areas could see some heavy spring snows depending on the track.Along with this system some strong to damaging winds.Something to watch.

Scary situation at the school near Pittsburgh, multiple stabbings.Last report I saw was 20 students injured.
Prayers go out to the families and students.Pretty sad when we send our kids off to school and we never can be sure of their safety.

Looking good luck with the salamander watch,I've seen pictures of that, pretty impressive with the number of salamanders.
Spring is here to stay, with occasional interruptions,I'm especially looking forward to possible 70's on Monday. Then we get a strong cold front midweek, which will stop the warmup for a little while.

A little over 67 here in Cambridge, and with the humidity it feels even warmer. I am thrilled!

My website is one year old! I invite people to visit:

Tonight might be The Big Night for salamanders when they return to their local pond or pool to mate. I am going out later to see. You never know, but the combination of warm weather and rain at this time of year is what they like.

With temps well up into the 60's this afternoon and even a little humidity, but cold front coming through this evening will change the whole temp regime and tomorrow will be windy and cool in the low to mid 50's.

WIDESPREAD MODERATE RAINFALL THIS MORNING COULD RESULT IN AREAS
OF URBAN AND POOR DRAINAGE FLOODING.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...WEDNESDAY THROUGH MONDAY.

THERE IS THE POSSIBILITY THAT SOME ALREADY SWOLLEN RIVERS MAY
REACH FLOOD STAGE.
