no heat in sight

July 29th
Last 3 days of July. The first half of the month was very hot,so July will end up well above normal, with below normal rainfall for me,but many areas hit by torrential downpours that past couple of weeks will have above normal. We end July with unsettled and much cooler weather, and it looks like August may start out much cooler than normal.Next week, may be close to record lows for a couple of the mornings,we'll have to wait and see. Also August the tropical season starts to ramp up.TS Dorian, fell apart over the weekend, and we'll have to wait and see if it can rejuvenate,Florida will have to watch this closely. We here in New England are safe right now, with the current weather pattern,as the low is coming down from Canada, but a long tropical season ahead.

July 30th
So yesterday, they gave a very slight chance of a storm as the cold front approaches.Well, slight chance was pretty good.We had some pretty heavy storms form in the afternoon, and frequent lightning and heavy downpours, some downpours came down with bright sunshine. Now a couple of beautiful summer days with low humidity.

July 31st
So we say goodbye to July, which for the most part was above normal with two heat waves during mid July and very humid. We are ending on a less humid more comfortable note.
So August is one of those months that starts the transistion. The first half is still very summery, but daytime daylight is shrinking rapidly. We lose our long evenings. The last half of August still can be hot,but also the cooler mornings are evident.Summer seems to just fly by.

August 01
The start of August always represents to me the sliding down the hill toward winter.Evenings are getting shorter, more cold fronts are starting to come down out of Canada with cooler nights.
This year we are starting august on the cooler wetter side.Heavy rain is expected to move in this evening and through the night ending tomorrow morning.Ok weekend, but chance of showers each afternoon. At this point,no hot weather in sight,in fact most of the country is below 90,except for the Southwest.
This is also the time of year we start to watch the waves coming off of Africa for development.Right now alot of dry air and dust from the Sahara will keep things quiet for a little while.

August 02
Unusual pattern for this time of year with deep troughs digging down along the east US,which is creating very unsettled weather and much cooler temps. This will save the ac bills/electric,but it makes the summer feel shorter. Would like to see more summery weather before fall sets in,but no hot weather in the cards for now.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Hi NEw!

I realize it's finally the weekend and you're at home getting ready for tonight's Red Sox game against Arizona, but wanted to stop by and wish you a fun time tonight!

Unfortunately, the Sox lost to Arizona last night after such a phenonmenal 9th inning coup over Seattle the night before. Hope they'll rebound tonight while you're there in Fenway cheering in the stands!

Skies have begun to clear, and temps are up to 70,but dewpoint is at 70 also,so pretty humid out there ,but this afternoon the drier air should start to filter in,slight risk of a shower or thunderstorm.

Showers have exited my area this morning and sun should start to show up soon, should be a pretty nice day.
I'm really enjoying our RedSox team this year,no controversies and they are a fun bunch to watch, and they have this great talent for coming from behind.
Last night 6 runs in the 9th inning gets them another win.And this is with a lot of average players and due to injury a lot of young players thrown into the mix.It seems no matter who they throw in,they contribute.
Fun time in Boston this year.

Rob,your right, white rabbit got her in deep trouble.
I refuse to say the white rabbit stuff,I'm always afraid I'm going to hear someone scream "OFF WITH HIS HEAD,OFF WITH HIS HEAD"

LT,we had a few light showers in the evening heavier showers came through this morning, but not much more than a .25 inch.

Hi NEw. I think I've escaped the heavy precip. here in Sw CT. only 0.25" in my rain gauge so far and only light rain left for me on radar. There is a big area of heavier rain South of Long Island, moving NE towards SE New England, that might clip you.

"Rabbit rabbit rabbit" is one variant of a common British superstition which states that a person should say or repeat the word "rabbit" or "rabbits", or say the phrase "white rabbits", or some combination of these elements, out loud upon waking (or first moment) on the first day of the month, because doing so will ensure good luck for the duration of that month. Today, it is a frequent tradition in many English-speaking countries.

Today it has spread to many English-speaking countries and in the United States the tradition is common in New England, in particular in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont, although, like all folklore, determining its exact area of distribution is difficult. The superstition may be related to the broader belief in the rabbit or hare being a "lucky" animal, as exhibited in the practice of carrying a rabbit's foot for luck.[4]

Perhaps, we should consider importing a few of these lucky white rabbits, as the only types indigenous to our specific area are of the brown or gray variety! LOL! Hmmmm .... could explain a lot! LOL!

Hi,Mass,
Don't write off the heat for the summer just yet.I think the middle of August may heat up for a short time.
I was up until the 11th inning, but had to go to bed. Was so happy to see the results this morning.I have to say after the thoroughly distasteful season last year with all the mess from the nutcase manager to the prima donna players, its a lot of fun watching these mostly no names excel and have fun doing it.
Good point about bringing a pillow Saturday night, they have been in a lot of extra inning games of late.

Good Afternoon, NEw and Happy First of August!

Well, earlier, this first of the month started out on the right foot with sunny warm skies, but now it's become partly cloudy. I'm so grateful that those nearly six weeks of intense heat and humidity appear gone for the remainder of summer. I'll be so relieved if today's prospective pm t'storms stay far enough away from us! Hope our luck remains! Boy, parts of poor Connecticut are already getting clobbered again! Surprising how this state remains on the map after so many months of record-breaking, devastating rainfall/storms!

Did you happen to see last night's Red Sox game results? Boy, the paying fans sure got their money's worth! Can't imagine sitting through 5 hrs or 15 innings before the team finally eeeked out a 5-4 win. Surprising how Tampa Bay lost to the Arizona Cards. Their loss now puts the Sox a half game over them for the AL-East's first place! Boston is next to play interleague against Arizona this Saturday night. With many of their recent games going into extra innings, you might want to take along a comfortable pillow or a sleeping bag, just in case Saturday night's game happens to run long! LOL!

Good Morning, NEw!

Glad to see that you've also been enjoying this much needed cooler drier change! We sure deserve it after six long weeks of intensely high temps and oppressive humidity. It's quite remarkable, to me, how my early am thermostat reading of 69F degrees feels a whole lot better in the summer than it does in winter! Plus, I have no compulsion to haul out and wear my ole heavy flannels! LOL!

Last night's TV weathercast showed either serious downpours or a severe storm (seen on their computer generated 3-day model) coming through my area tomorrow night! Hope our luck continues to hold with the avoidance of lightning strikes, floods or worse.

How terrific that you were able to score some Red Sox tickets for Saturday night! Glad the Sox just traded Iglasius and I think a couple others for pitcher, Peavy! They sure needed an additional experienced starter added to their roster, since Bulcholtz hasn't pitched in 2 mos., Lester and others have had recent arm, etc. issues, and too many minor leaguers have had to be called up to substitue. In any event, hope you get to see a winning game! Unfortunately, I think Tampa Bay will remain their arch-nemesis throughout the remaining season and playoffs ... if so lucky.

Anyway, watching the news yesterday morning before going to work and they were talking about this story and the two men who were captured, and they had both mens pictures up on the tv screen.

Belle chewing on her bone, looked up and spied the picture of the two men, let out a bark and raced around behind the sofa. A few seconds later, she came around the sofa from the other direction and saw the pictures still up on the TV and barked and raced around behind the sofa again. When she returned the pictures were down, and she looked closely, but then settled back down on chewing her bone. So I have a very smart dog who knows bad guys when she sees them.

Sounds like Belle is developing the makings of a great watch dog! Nonetheless, I sincerely hope that she never encounters any real-life culprits, when inside and no one's around, since I don't think her size, bark or bite would be a strong enough deterrent. Still, it's a good idea that she keeps chewing on those yummy dog bones for, in time, her teeth will not only glisten, but perhaps become sharp enough to start nibbling away at any real bad man's ankle(s) that happen to cross her path! Grrrrr!!! LOL!

Puppies are like little children, they do things that just make you laugh, and helps to cheer you up for the day.
So here in Mass.
Two Massachusetts men are facing attempted robbery charges after one man allegedly tried to use a toy gun to hold up a Manchester, N.H. convenience store.

When the man demanded money, Tierney said she refused when she noticed the gun was plastic and had several scratches on it.

"It was so comical. A gray, plastic cap gun that was cracked scratched. It was blatantly obvious as he was walking in that it was a toy," she said. "I just refused to give it to him. He threatened to shoot me with his little, plastic gun, and I said that, 'What, with your little plastic gun?'"

Another one of our geniuses in society.

Good Morning, NEw!

What a remarkable change in temps and humidity since that cold front moved in overnight! Glad our home heating system didn't kick on this am, as I left several windows opened wide and woke to an interior temp of 69F degrees! Temps are gradually warming up again, but it feels so much better without all the miserably high dewpoints!

Thankfully, we escaped the severity of those storms that swept through our region late yesterday afternoon. We received a couple downpours and then a resulting rainbow. Such a deal, especially, when a few nearby towns got whalloped and resulted in a few downed trees and/or power outages. Whew!

Hope that August will miraculously become the high point of our summer season and bring us plenty of sunshine, warmth, comfortable dewpoints and no appreciable storms! We sure do need much more time for things to cool down and dry off a bit!

Good Morning, NEw ~

Hope your three-day weekend was sufficient enough to catch up on some more needed down-time.

Glad that our region didn't receive the copious amounts of rainfall as North Carolina and others did the other day. It's going to take awhile for these regions to recover from all the significant destruction. I think it's safe to say that many East Coasters should probably catch a break on their water bill this season.

I can't wait until much drier air finally settles back in here! These recently cooler temps have been great but the remaining sticky dewpoints or humidity certainly detract from any real enjoyment. Hope that August will be the much better half of what's been quite the miserably oppressive summer!

GM,looking,Belle is still having itch problems,we're scheduling her appt to have her spayed next week.I've read that they can go into heat starting at 6 months,so before that happens we want to get her done.
I'll try to get some new pics, she has grown so much. From 4 pounds when we got her,she is up to 10 pounds now.
LOL,we are trying to keep Belle off the couch, but she is persistent, ever since she was allowed on the couch at our vacation rental, she feels she should be allowed here at home, the problem is these are leather couches, and we don't want any scratches. In the evening she likes to join my wife on here recliner prior to putting her to bed,my poor wife has to slide over to make room for her.So yes we do tend to accomodate our pets over our comfort don't we.

So glad to see the humidity going. The older I get the harder high humidity is for me.

How is Miss Belle's skin problem? The last I heard she was having itchies. I'd love to see some new pix of her if you have them! Our cat Trotley has logged a lot of time sprawled out on the couch in the heat. I don't see how they stand these hot days covered with fur. We were trying to watch tv last night and it was ok for me to sit on the couch, but since Trotley was taking up the other 2/3rds of it my husband had to sit elsewhere. You know, nothing's too good for the family cat--I guess--

The humidity ends today as a cold front moves through our area and we'll see the dewpoints dropped significantly tonight. The next two days look fantastic.
Then another frontal system and wave will cause more showers late Thursday into early Friday, and right now the weekend looks good.
