Heavy rains

October 19th
So we made it to Friday, thats always a good thing, and weatherwise,it looks like all the precip should be over by early tomorrow morning and we will probably shoot up into the 70's tomorrow, before we drop back to normal on Sunday.Hope to do some more painting in the kitchen this weekend, and should finish all painting by next weekend, with patching holes and applying a couple of coats of primer, then at least one coat of the paint.I will be so glad when this is all done.
Big patriots game against our rivals the NY jets on late Sunday afternoon.

October 18th
Winter forecasts are coming out.Noaa is out with theirs,as indicated in Dr. Masters main blog, and with all the contributing factors, several seem to contrast each other,so it really seems up in the air.I find it hard to believe it will be anything like last year.I suspect this winter is going to be a rollercoaster ride, with periods of snow and cold and warmups.I think its going to be a very changeable winter, but who knows,we didn't see such an above normal winter last winter.

October 17th
So we had a little earthquake here in New England, centered in Maine, the arrowhead lake region, which is not to far north in Maine, but inland.
around 4.0 on the richter scale, not very big,but for our region,it shakes people up a little since we don't usually experience this.
I personally never felt it,but many people in Mass. said they felt it.A little over reaction by some people. It occurred around 7:10 pm last night.
When I was stationed in Japan many years ago for two years,I experienced many earthquakes there, and much stronger.Very unsettling feeling with the stronger earthquakes. Not a nice feeling either.
Gives something for people to talk about anyway.

October 16th,
Brief hvy shower during the night, and cool breezy day today, then our warmup begins tomorrow and the rest of the week will be above normal.
Could be some heavy showers late Friday or early Saturday, but weather looks pretty good for this week.

Other than it's payday,Monday is here again. After 4 days off,its still lousy coming into work on Monday.
Anyway a very mild morning and day ahead with a chance of heavy showers early this evening with a cold front.Much cooler tomorrow, but another warmup for the end of the week,in fact it looks mild at times for the next couple of weeks, which may keep our string of above normal months continuing.
Patriots lost yesterday, when they should have won.So after 6 games, its obvious they aren't that good a team.Too many mistakes, missed opportunities,Tom Brady did not look good at all despite big numbers, and the defense can't hold a lead.So expecting a mediocre season.

Lots of winter predictions starting to come out,but still hard to get a feel for the pattern that will set up.All the talk of an El Nino, seems to be over done, maybe a weak El nino.
Certainly hard to believe we would have another winter like last, but with our string of above normal months continuing, still may stay warm, but not as much as last winter.I suspect we may problems with ice this year.

Well, I knew that was an earthquake for sure! Felt one good jolt, and then the sort of tinking and ticking sounds you get, the house kind of twitching, which lasted several seconds. Not the first one I have felt in Cambridge MA, but it is pretty startling when it happens. I've felt them in Denver, too, and a couple of very big ones in California. Just reminds you how small you are compared to the inner workings of Earth!

Wow, hi Looking! Thanks for sharing what you felt there. We'll probably hear from NEw in the morning if he felt it or not. Glad it wasn't anything bad for you.

Hi Jus--Yeah, the small ones (like this one) I have felt are as if the washer is off balance, or a load of snow has fallen on the roof, or a big truck has gone through a pothole in the street. There always seems to be some sound associated with it, a kind of rattling or ticking sound, or a big whooomp! kind of noise. The big one in CA was a whole nother story though, very scary (it was in LA and I was in San Diego and it still woke me up, and went on and on and on). I don't think I'd want to live out there. Give me a blizzard any time instead of my house falling down on top of me!

Nope, didn't feel a thing, and many I've talked to at work didn't feel it either, one guy said he did feel the vibration.
New England is prone to earthquakes, but of the small variety usually.Experts do say we are on a pretty big fault, but generally doesn't cause much problems.
Looking most people were like you, describing it as a big truck going by.But you always get the over hyping.

Staying on the earthquake theme,Oklahoma recoreded a 3.2 earthquake this morning, something that small is almost unnoticeable, but if you rememeber a year ago November 6th,Oklahoma was rocked by a 5.6 earthquake with several aftershocks.

Hi NEw!

Stopping by briefly to say hello and mention that we definitely felt the resulting tremors to the 4.0 earthquake near Hollis, ME, Lakes Arrowhead and Sebago. My hubby, I and our neighbors all dashed out onto our street wondering if it was caused by a large truck or something else. I soon realized that it must have been a small earthquake which was confirmed when turning on the local NECN's 24 hr news station. Talk about, "Get Ready To Rumble!" LOL! Thankfully, it appears no one in our area received any damage and those close to the epicenter reported only a few slightly damaged structures or windows.

I haven't felt a New England tremor since the late 80's when a 4.7 earthquake occurred near Quebec, Canada and traveled down our way. Hope that's the extent of it for some time to come!

Gotta run as my father-in-law's been ill and I've had to take him to his doctor's office two days in a row. At least, he's up-to-date on all his flu and pneumonia shots. Never a dull moment around here anymore. UGH!

What a bummer over the Pats 1 point loss to the Seahawks last Sunday. Towards the end, I was wondering if some of the Pats players knew which team they were playing for. LOL! Better luck next game??

THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR NORTHERN
CONNECTICUT...CENTRAL MASSACHUSETTS...EASTERN
MASSACHUSETTS...NORTHEASTERN MASSACHUSETTS...SOUTHEASTERN
MASSACHUSETTS...WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS...SOUTHERN NEW
HAMPSHIRE...NORTHERN RHODE ISLAND AND SOUTHERN RHODE ISLAND.

.DAY ONE...TODAY AND TONIGHT.

THERE IS A LOW PROBABILITY FOR ISOLATED FLASH FLOODING TODAY. THIS
WILL BE DEPENDENT ON HOW ORGANIZED THUNDERSTORMS BECOME LATER THIS
MORNING INTO THIS AFTERNOON. IF THUNDERSTORMS TRAIN OVER A GIVEN
AREA FOR A PERIOD OF TIME...LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL WILL OCCUR AND
INCREASE THE RISK OF FLASH FLOODING ESPECIALLY IN ANY OF THE URBAN
AREAS. IF AREAL COVERAGE OF THUNDERSTORMS IS MORE ISOLATED OR
WIDELY SCATTERED THE RISK OF FLOODING WILL BE LOWER.

Hi NEw, TGIF Our spinny thingy is heading your way LOL.
At least you may be all done with the rain by Sunday and can salvage one good day. Good luck in the 'big game'. Our guys have been off for so long, I hope they remember how to play the game as well as they were playing before. Stay dry!

(hope you don't mind NEw) -Hi Mass - Good to know you didn't have any trouble from that earthquake either. Sorry to hear another family member is fighting off illness. Take care. Hope you can relax this weekend and enjoy the game.
