snowless December

So we finish out December with only some flurries last Monday morning.Forecasters run to find similar years when there was no snow and what the rest of the winter was like, but it doesn't matter. Its still very hard to predict what the rest of the winter is base on the previous months.I've seen where December was way below normal and the rest of the winter was above normal.I've seen December below normal and the rest of the winter stays below normal. Our last few winters have seen a -NAO pattern, which translates into colder and stormier winters. So far this fall and December have seen a positive NAO,will this condition stay, who knows. It seems unlikely that pattern would hold, but it may. This has been a strange year of weather patterns, with patterns holding for long periods of time. And since last year we had a -NAO just about all winter, this may be the winter of +NAO.We'll just have to see.
As far as this weekend it will be around normal to above normal on Sunday, then an artic front moves through Monday night and we go into the deep freeze.
Last night with the 20-30 mph winds,it was a cold walk with Prince, the first real cold walk of the season, not that he minds with his double coat of fur.On cold nights like last night,I don't see anyone else.Once winter sets in,I'm usually the only one out walking their dog.Wimps!!!

Hi,gamma, another vacation!!!Careful, they may change your work status to part time.
Read this:

With a couple of days left in the month, this December may go down as one of the least snowy in history, according to the National Weather Service in Taunton.

Only a trace of snow has been reported from Dec. 1 through Christmas in Boston, something that’s only happened five times before in weather service records. The last time was 1973.

In Worcester, 0.3 inches of snow has been recorded all month, tied with 1892 as the least snowiest on record.

Coupled with the warm weather -- December is running just over 5 degrees above normal -- and this winter thus far feels more like fall (though not this past fall, certainly, which was the warmest ever recorded).

Does this portend a mild winter? The outlook’s still uncertain, said meteorologist Bill Simpson, adding that over the next few months, Bostonians can expect at least a couple of snowstorms.

“Winter’s got a long way to go,” he said.

GM,Mass, trust me I would rather be inside my nice warm home, but he needs his walk, and I just wrap up nice and tight with layers and its not so bad.I actually enjoy the quiet cold nights without the wind.
Even Prince doesn't enjoy the strong winds.
Much of the grass has been staying green, but over the next week, the ground will freeze solid and the green will fade to brown.Even my lighted snowman in my front yard was leaning from the strong winds.
I tried to comfort him and assure him he only has to stay out about another week, and I'll bring him in.As I was walking away I could swear I heard him grumbling about "how I would feel with another week of this",not that I think snowman can speak.

Good Morning NEw!

I responded to your question regarding my incessant computer problems on your previous blog, so since I gave an elaborate answer regarding that, the Pats and the weather, LOL, just click on yesterday's last post.

I have to admit that you'd probably consider me one of those "wimps" in your neighborhood when it comes to taking a very brisk early morning or late evening walk outside in these current temps. You and Prince are cut from a much heartier breed of humans and animals than me or many others for that matter. LOL!

Thought I'd help to warm or thaw things up around here by adding another log onto the fireplace and stoking some of the embers to keep those flames high and the heat coming! LOL!

For now, I'm just ever so thankful we're still without any snow on the ground and that there's a slight chance of yet another warmup over the weekend! How I love the green, green grass of home. LOL!

Stay safe, warm and healthy good buddy, the weekend's nearly here and, hopefully, your on-call duties remain quiet or very few. Most people should probably be relaxing or recovering from all the holiday activities.
