In spite of the fact that you're on-call this weekend, I hope that you'll have a decent weekend and be able to partake of the slight warmth and sunshine we experienced today. Next week I think each of us will want to keep the covers over our heads with more snow, mix and rain expected. YUK! Hope you and yours are doing well.

Quoting NEwxguy:
Actually,my first reaction is is just snow, but in all fairness it was an enormous amount of snow in an area that is not equiped for so much, and now that I think about it,our area in the blizzard of 78 got assistance,so I take back my sarcastic remark, areas do need some assistance,I think it should be limited.

Oh, your jest barely qualified as sarcasm -- nothing wrong with being a vigilent taxpayer, and as the help is limited to public assistance and mitigation (public assistance is NOT individual assistance), I think we're in total agreement.

Hi, NE -- The first thing I USED to do almost everyday, uh, after coffee, was check FEMA website -- but since I've almost completely cut ties with the agency, I don't look at it much anymore. Well, since this recent -- ahem -- "disaster" has affected us I went to website. Okay, I kind of get it and sympathize, now -- this assistance includes repair of damaged public buildings and non-profit agencies. Everybody's strapped...helping agencies are hard-hit. So for their sakes, maybe we should cut 'em a bit of slack...

Here's VA...I'll go back and look at MD...

President Declares Major Disaster For Virginia

Release Date: February 16, 2010
Release Number: HQ-10-013

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), today announced that federal disaster aid has been made available to the Commonwealth of Virginia to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the areas struck by severe winter storm and snowstorm during the period of December 18, 2009, to December 20, 2009.

Federal funding is available to the Commonwealth and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by the severe winter storm and snowstorm in the counties of Albemarle, Allegheny, Amherst, Arlington, Augusta, Bath, Bedford, Botetourt, Buchanan, Caroline, Culpepper, Dickenson, Fairfax, Grayson, Greene, Hanover, Highland, Lee, Louisa, Madison, Montgomery, Nelson, Orange, Page, Prince William, Rockbridge, Russell, Scott, Spotsylvania, Stafford, and Wise and the independent cities of Alexandria, Charlottesville, Fairfax, Falls Church, Manassas, Manassas Park, Norton, Staunton, and Waynesboro.

In addition, assistance is available to the Commonwealth and eligible local governments on a cost-sharing basis for emergency protective measures, including snow assistance, for a continuous 48-hour period during or proximate to the incident period.

Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures throughout the Commonwealth.

Donald L. Keldsen has been named as the federal coordinating officer for federal recovery operations in the affected area. Keldsen said additional designations may be made at a later date if requested by the State and warranted by the results of further damage assessments.

FEMA%u2019s mission is to support our citizens and first responders to ensure that as a nation we work together to build, sustain, and improve our capability to prepare for, protect against, respond to, recover from, and mitigate all hazards.
