End of July

By: NEwxguy, 2:22 PM GMT on July 31, 2012

As always summer is flying by,right now we not experiencing much summer weather, but it is comfortable, but the heat and humidity will build in by friday and last through the weekend with only slight chances of showers or storms, mainly west and north.
A little unsettled weather later today and this evening as a low moves by us out to sea,but bringing some rain to SE Mass, Cape Cod and the islands, but once that moves by the Bermuda High strenghtens and starts pumping the heat into our area.
Has anyone noticed the shorter days?Evenings are getting much shorter, and it is getting darker in the morning when I get up.
This is a tough week for my wife and I as we try to get into a pattern, that doesn't include Prince, and its not easy.I always knew this day would come, but not so quickly, but also didn't expect it to be so difficult, but like anything we just have to give it time.

In memory of Prince

By: NEwxguy, 2:03 PM GMT on July 30, 2012

Well,it was not the kind of vacation I would hope for, weather was inconsistent at best and never got to the beach, lots of work getting our room put back together, but all that is unimportant due to the fact we had to put our beloved Prince to sleep on Friday night.
As most who have followed his story with his Congestive heart failure that was diagnosed at the end of the winter,he has been in and out of the hostipital, and over the pas month the emergency trips have been more frequent with his difficulty breathing when his lungs fill up with fluid. They have heart medicine which can remove the fluid from the lungs, unfortunately the medicine he needed at sufficient levels to keep the fluid out of his lungs also put his kidneys in failure. So he had two problems working against each other. We thought he was stable last week, but on Friday night he had difficulty breathing and it got worse as the evening progressed eventhough we gave him extra heart medicine. Finally about 11 pm,we both agreed we couldn't continue to make him suffer. We decided to have him put to sleep. It was the longest ride of my life.
I have to hand it to the hospital they made it so comforting. They put us in a comfortable private room,we sat on a sofa with Prince and they took him out and gave him a sedative and put in an IV,brought him back and let us stay with him for a while and when we were ready, she simply came in and put the overdose of anesthestia and he quietly went to sleep. It was so nice.
Needless to say we did not have a good weekend with sleep a tough thing to do.Even now,we see things that remind us,coming home to a quiet house is depressing, and this morning its bad enough going back to work after 10 days off,but my routine over the past almost 11 years is changed.Any one who has lost a pet knows what its like.
In the end it was the right move, but my wife and I will miss him terribly.I still hear him every once and a while walking across the floor.

Heat wave ends with a bang and crash

By: NEwxguy, 1:26 PM GMT on July 19, 2012

Cold front was slowly making its way through southern New England rather quietly when all of a sudden around 2 to 3 pm the radar lit up.
And a line strong to severe storms crashed through our area and southern new england, causing major tree damage all around. One town not too far from me experienced straight line winds which took down trees and power lines and even flipped someones garage. We had minor tree damage here in Waltham.I had to dodge a few large branches sitting in the middle of the road as I went home yesterday.
So dry cooler weather settles in for us,with dewpoints dropping into the 50's.Humid weather returns Sunday and Monday, but then another front will dry us out for the end of next week.So the ridge sits out in the midwest baking those people and destroying crops.Get ready for rising food costs. While the ridge sits out there, fronts will alternately move through us keeping the heat periods short.

Another humid warm day,not as hot as yesterday

By: NEwxguy, 2:22 PM GMT on July 18, 2012

Another bad hair day today, then cooling off and much less humidity.Into the weekend, before humid weather returns on Sunday.Approaching vacation starting Friday, and it can't come too soon. Its been a wild week, house renovations are moving slowly. All the molding I stained the past 2 weeks should go up tomorrow.Rug comes in next week.
Hope to get to the beach on Friday, but believe or not,it might be too cool.Right now predictions are mid 70's with a cool ocean breeze.
Prince is hanging in there and right at the moment doing very well with energy,of course keeping him inside most of the time in the AC.
Will check in from time to time.Another crazy day ahead.

Summer Heat

By: NEwxguy, 4:57 PM GMT on July 17, 2012

Another day of summer heat and humidity. mid to upper 90s today, one more humid hot day tomorrow, but with showers and storms that will end this current heat. Some welcome relief for the end of the week and weekend.
Prince is comfortable today,as I said its a day to day thing.Increasing his heart meds today slightly and will see if it effects his kidneys.Pretty much walking a tightrope.
Redsox with a nice win last night over the White Sox,but Big Papi injured his foot,so we are holding our breath.
Crazy day here at work, will stop again later.

Heat wave

By: NEwxguy, 1:15 PM GMT on July 16, 2012

We are officially in a heat wave with 90 degree days now at 4 for my area, and probably 2 maybe 3 more to go,before we get some welcome relief, with lower temps and lower humidity into next weekend.
Chance for storms wednesday afternoon, but right doesn't look severe at this point.
Took Prince to the hospital Saturday to check his heart and kidneys.
He has more energy, but they found the kidneys not good which is due to the heart medication,so we had to stop that for a day.Basically the sad news is he has two problems heart and kidneys and the medication for each problem is opposite. One medication is working against the other,so its day to day with probably not much time left.If he looks really uncomfortable we will have to make the tough decision to stop his suffering. Both of us are really dreading this time, but we both know its going to be soon rather than later.
I start my vacation on Friday and will be out for a week,I'm hoping this weather continues through next week. A lot going on at the house, but hope to get some beach time and maybe some relaxing, not sure how much.Maybe if I run away??

Lazy days of summer

By: NEwxguy, 5:36 PM GMT on July 13, 2012

We are in the the peak summer heat days which will continue off and well into August.I need to water every evening to make sure plants and tomatoes don't dry out.
Prince is holding his own,but very lethargic, not hisself.Basically he's gone back into congestive heart failure.Cardiologists indicates this is the nature of the disease and at some point as he keeps getting these episodes he recovers less and less. Its uncertain at this point whether he will make it through the summer. I hope so,but I sense he doesn't have much time left.It will be a decision my wife and I will have to make if he continues in this weakened state.
The second half of the base ball season starts tonight. To say Im not very confident would be the understatement, but we'll just have to wait and see as some of the injured players return.

Continue dry weather with increasing humidity

By: NEwxguy, 2:48 PM GMT on July 12, 2012

Hot,and increasing humidity this weekend with increasing chances of showers/storms.
Was late to work today, had to take Prince to the hospital, having a real tough time breathing this morning and coughing.Left him them for and pick him up this afternoon, should be much more comfortable.
Another busy day, finally finished my polyurethane of all the wood for our family room, the hard part is getting contractor over to put the wood up.

Large area of country in drought conditions

By: NEwxguy, 12:55 PM GMT on July 11, 2012

A large area of the country is suffering from drought conditions,in various degrees of severity.
The midwest currently is suffering from extreme drought conditions with a huge rain deficit and having just experience severe heat.Crops production is becoming a disaster as farms are losing crops each week. The corn is nearly destroyed,or plants are so small as to be useless.Expect rising prices in supermarkets which have begun already.
Here the northeast it hasn't been as severe, but currently over an inch below normal so far this month. Some wet weather could move in on Sunday, but how much is up in the air. After a very dry winter with littl snow and only moderate amounts in the spring, this could be a long dry,hot summer.Weather patterns currently don't favor any widespread rain for the drought stricken areas.

warm dry days, cool nights is the theme this week.

By: NEwxguy, 1:34 PM GMT on July 10, 2012

The New England can get very hot and humid, especially when the Bermuda high sets up off the coast, but this week we've had a NW flow bringing dry canadian air to our region. Its always a nice break from the hot humid weather.Starting this weekend the Bermuda High is expected to build back in,so the humid weather is coming back along with some unsettled weather sometime this weekend.Enjoy this refreshing air while you can.

Quiet,and dry weather ahead.

By: NEwxguy, 1:58 PM GMT on July 09, 2012

For those who hate the humidity, you will love this week, dew points may even drop into the 40's for a couple of days, which is highly unusual for July, its a bonus when dewpoints drop into the 50's.
Humidity returns this weekend along with showers.
Disappointing weekend for the Redsox as the Yankees took 3 out of 4,but didn't surprise me.Redsox full of replacement players and starting pitching puts the redsox in the hole in the first inning each of the 4 games.
So another week starts.
Noting the death of Ernest Borgnine long time actor in hollywood, most known for his starring role in TV classic McHale's Navy.Thats two old time TV actors passing on,usually come in 3's.

Warm dry weekend

By: NEwxguy, 8:34 PM GMT on July 08, 2012

Well,if you chose this week for a vacation in the northeast, you couldn't have picked a better week.
Dry all week, and low humidity, and warm temps.Mornings will actually be a little chilly well down in the 50's.
Very tranquil weather pattern.Don't think I'm going to hear too much complaining

Heat returns

By: NEwxguy, 1:53 PM GMT on July 06, 2012

Beautiful comfortable night and feels so good this morning.Heating up into the upper 80's this afternoon, but humidity still is comfortble, but tomorrow will be a different story,Very hot and humid and will have to watch the possible forming of storms that may turn severe as a cold front approaches. Then we turn warm and comfortable for most of next week.
The Yankees are in town for four games before the all star break next week. After a horrid roadtrip out west,we sure need a good thrashing of the Yankees, but I fear that may be the other way around. Two teams going in opposite directions, and so many injuries on the Redsox.

4th of July

By: NEwxguy, 1:42 PM GMT on July 05, 2012

Our country celebrated our birthday in grandstyle around the country. In some of the major cities, great fireworks.
Lots of concerts,we had a excellent concert with Jennifer Hudson the star of the show.We had a bried interruption in the middle of the show as a severe storm was baring down on the esplanade,so they evacuated everyone into a nearby road tunnel, but the storm fell apart and never threatened the show,so the concert went on,and so did the spectacular fireworks.
The midwest sweltered through the celebrations, the middleatlantic celebrated in the dark.
Several people were struck by lightning, 3 people in New Hampshire,2 people in South Boston.
A house party in New Hampshire where home fireworks are allowe, suddenly turned disasterous when an errant firework display landed on their deck where a whole stack of fireworks were sitting and they exploded injuring a bunch of people including children. In fact one 8 month old girl is severely burned and still in intensive care in a medically induced coma. This is a reason why most states don't allow them, because of mishaps like this.
I was staining and working to complete my molding all day,so was too tired to go anywhere. Waltham does have fireworks, but I was not up to it.
I will be very glad when this is done.

Simply Marvelous Day!!!!!

By: NEwxguy, 12:59 PM GMT on July 03, 2012

In the words of Billy Crystal, "You Are Marveloous,Simply Marvelous"
Which is how I describe the day.Cool refreshing morning,60 degrees, some places up north were in the 50's,warming to the mid-upper 80's,and fairly low dew points. This is a "10" day.
Unfortunately tomorrow will not be so nice,a Warm Front moving in late tonight may set off showers early in the morning.A weakening MCS complex and where it goes will determine if we get some strong storms tomorrow afternoon and evening. How much sun we get will determine how unstable to atmosphere gets for us.It will be more humid tomorrow and into the 80's,depending on the amount of sun. Then we get another beautiful day Thursday, before heat returns for Friday and Saturday, more thunderstorms late Saturday, and cooler and drier air moves in for Sunday and early next week.As long as the ridge sits over the middle part of the country where all the heat is,we will be in this changing pattern.
And there are no indications this will change any time soon.

Need to rest up after my days off

By: NEwxguy, 1:37 PM GMT on July 02, 2012

So I am back, not rested, but back.A very busy 5 days, with more wood then I care to mention being sanded, stained and polyurethaned. Some did not stain well, and had to replace.
Painter painted the walls.Still need more staining to finish up,and windows need to be stained. So pleased don't mention I was on vacation.
Anyway lots going on in the weather department. The midsection and mid-atlantic southward are roasting, records falling everywhere.
We are on the Norteast side of the ridge,so we are mostly staying out of the hot oven, with periodic fronts cooling us off slightly and occasional storms.Every few days a piece of the heat breaks off and visits us and then is gone in two days.Friday and Saturday looked to be hot and humid, then a front comes through Saturday night.
4th of July could be very stormy, depending on how unstable the air gets, not good news for all those who camp out on the esplanade waiting for the festivities at night.Lets hope nothing materializes, that could be serious if the storms turn severe.
Redsox are struggling through the west coast, but have managed to climb into third place.
So expect a very busy day back at work catching up.Will check in from time to time.
