Beautiful weather

By: NEwxguy, 2:17 PM GMT on May 31, 2012

There are a lot of nice days through the year, what you call the perfect weather.Of course, everyone has their own idea of the perfect weather. Some people love the hot humid weather, those that live in the south, adapt to that weather,so they love it.Some people love the cold winter days.Myself I love the weather where there is low humidity, and temps in the mid 70's to low 80's.The next two days will fall into that category.Unfortunately those days don't last too long.
Saturday looks like a washout with heavy rains.Sunday looks not too bad,but then we head into a spell of unsettled very cool weather as systems block up and we are stuck with a coastal storm east of us that pumps in windy cool showery weather off the cold ocean for most of the weak. This due to a strong negative NAO forming.
Celtics, well they lost last night, but played an exciting game, but most of the talk surrounding the referees.Basketball is the sport where they can really be a factor in the outcome. Its obvious star power effects the calls. The bigger the star, the more the lack of calls. Its too bad, because it was an excellent game to watch.
Redsox continue to improve with a bunch of noname players, and certain stars stepping forward,i.e. David Ortiz. This is becoming a team I'm really enjoying as young players and basically utility players are really adding a lot of energy to this team, that they lacked last fall and the start of this year.

Heavy weather yesterday

By: NEwxguy, 1:14 PM GMT on May 30, 2012

Very active day in the northeast yesterday with some really strong storms hitting NY,Western Mass and Vt and NH.I didn't expect anything here in eastern Mass, due to entrenched marine air,but they did survive in a weakened state and got a quick storm around 10 pm last night. A couple heavy claps of thunder and a quick 5 minute downpour and it was over, but some instability today and already scattered showers have popped up.With front still to the west of us,may see a couple pop up shwrs and thunder through this afternoon, then the front moves through tonight cooling us off and dropping the humidity.
More showers Friday night and Saturday,We are heading into a negative NAO pattern next week,so don't expect any summer weather, and it will probably be cool and unsettled for most of the week.
A couple of reports of tornadoes in VT yesterday, but nothing confirmed as of now.

Tornado warnings in the northeast

By: NEwxguy, 1:13 PM GMT on May 29, 2012

Long weekend is over and the unofficial start of summer is Memorial day weekend, and the weather cooperated. The predicted showers and thunderstorms never materialized as the air was just too stable.
It warm most of the weekend, but each afternoon the spring seabreeze kicked in dropping our temps into the 60's within 30 miles of the coast.
I was busy most of the weekend with lots of yard work and odds and ends around the house. Can't say I really rested. Also had a couple of trouble calls for work as I was on oncall duty.
TS Beryl continues to dump lots of rain on the SE,but is expected to move NE along the carolinas coast and out to sea by Thursday. So we are up to B for this tropical season which doesn't officially start until Friday.
Celtics started their finals last night with the Miami heat and looked so bad in the second half. They really have no chance. They are so banged up.I guess they should be complimented on getting this far.
Redsox continue to struggle to get above 500.
We have our new bay window in our family room and a new window on the side of the house. So room is slowly getting together. We have bought new furniture, sofa and love seat, and now the work of chosing what color to do the walls and stain of the molding and window frame, which is not fun.

Honor our Service men!!!!!

By: NEwxguy, 12:53 PM GMT on May 25, 2012

Entering a long weekend to honor our service who we've lost and who are still in harm's way.I could never be more proud of our servicemen, they sacrifice everything, lives, family, health, but for me our government doesn't do enough for them and their family.
I have read too many stories where service men and their families are left to struggle. Our armed forces hospitals are way under funded.Service men have to fight too much to get treatment after returning, families of those killed struggle to make ends meet.As former Air Force member during the Vietnam war,I never served in Vietnam, but I was stationed in Japan where there was a hospital that the wounded were brought.I volunteered to work at the hospital. It was a sobering experience to see those soldiers torn apart.Something I will never forget, and something I still reach out to my congressman. To do more for our serviceman,as far as Im concerned of all the waste my tax dollars go to ,not enough of my tax dollars go to helping our serviceman and families.I write often to my representatives. Some reply, some don't.

above normal temps

By: NEwxguy, 2:21 PM GMT on May 24, 2012

May continues the pattern of above normal months, although not to the degree the previous months have been, but still above normal and the rest of the month should be above normal.
Another nice day out there with only a chance of showers or a little thunder central and west areas.A little more chance of showers tomorrow, then in the 80's and more humid Sat.,before cooling off a little on Sunday.Unsettled the first part of next week.
Disturbed weather in the Carribean.Redsox won yesterday and Celtics looked awful.

better,but still unsettled

By: NEwxguy, 7:25 PM GMT on May 23, 2012

Looks like we're in for an unsettled period right into next week.Should be periods of very nice weather,if not on the warm side, but each afternoon a risk of showers and storms. Today is a good example as storms are firing up central and western areas.Probably won't make it east as the marine air keeps our air more stable.I've actually seen a couple of glimpses of sun.
Very busy today,but I made it here.Woohoo!!!
Gotta run!!!

Mixed bag

By: NEwxguy, 1:20 PM GMT on May 22, 2012

Over the next 7 days, looks like the northeast is in for all kinds of weather.Rain, thunder, damp weather, humidity, above normal temps. You name it we will have it.Starting out damp and wet today, unsettled tomorrow chance of thunder, better chance of storms on Thursday afternoon.Friday sounds warm and more humid into Saturday,Cold front comes through with showers on Saturday,Sunday looks good, possible warm front late Sunday with showers and thunder and into Monday, and warmer and more humid.Timing is anybody's guess.
Alberto is going out to see,at least what is left of it.
Celtics won last night,so just need one more win.
Redsox knocked off first place Baltimore to continue their climb out of the cellar.Strange to see the Yankees and Redsox at the bottom.

long weekend

By: NEwxguy, 2:05 PM GMT on May 21, 2012

Sometimes you take a few days off and nothing happens in the news, sports or entertainment. Then there are some days off where all kinds of things happen.
First since this is a weather blog for the most part, our first TS.Not much of a storm, but Alberto formes. At this point a weak TS off the coast of SC and Florida, will eventually start moving off the Northeast. We have a very unsetteled pattern along the east coast and this TS will just add to the moisture already streaming northward, currently heavy rain moving in along the Del.,Penn.,NY coastline. All this will eventually move into New England late today and evening and stay showerey through midweek.
The Music world lost to big names,my favourite Donna Summer and Robyn Gibbs of the BeeGees. Was never a big fan of the disco music, but loved donna summers and the BeeGees. My listening history is filled with both. Both entertainers lost their battles with cancer. We will miss them and their music will always be around.

Beautiful weekend

By: NEwxguy, 1:48 PM GMT on May 17, 2012

Looks like a beautiful weekend ahead.Seems to be a pattern forming here, which I like. Rain during the week and nice weekends. Lets see if the continues into the summer.
So clearing skies, chilly morning and tomorrow morning some areas north and west may experience a littel frost, but not around here. Thinking about starting my vegetable garden.
Early next week,it wil be turning unsettled again as a low comes up along the coast and one comes down out of Canada. So at least some showery weather, will have to see if any heavy rains may occur.
The Celtics were awesome last night destroying the 76ers.Another game tomorrow night.Redsox lost a tough one in Tampa Bay.

Busy day

By: NEwxguy, 7:15 PM GMT on May 16, 2012

After a few showers this morning, things are just cloudy here in the east, but out in NY and western New England storms are firing up with possible severe weather. For us here in the east they should fade out as they get closer to the ocean and more stable air. Will have to watch out west of here.
Been a busy day,not much time to much blogging.Hope everyone is doing ok today.

Tuesday

By: NEwxguy, 1:15 PM GMT on May 15, 2012

Tuesday is one of the days, you have mixed feelings about.Monday is the start of the work week,so you naturally dislike that day. Wednesday is the half way period, and weekend is approaching, same with Thurs and Friday. Tuesdays are not the start of the week, but the end of the week is still aways to go.
The kind of day you just ignore, since it doesn't cheer you up and doesn't bring you down.
We here in the east are in a quiet zone, actually saw a little sun this morning, while its raining out western portions of new england.Slowly the rain should move east arriving late this afternoon, and could come down heavy for a while tonight. Tomorrow will be a transistion day with sun and showers around. Then the really nice stretch of weather sets in.
Celtics lost, they just look hurt and old right now.
Redsox won their 4th in a row.An afternoon game today before they hit the road for a tough road trip with Tampa Bay,Philadelphia and Baltimore. This will really prove whether they are going to be a contender or just an also ran.

spring weekend

By: NEwxguy, 1:09 PM GMT on May 14, 2012

wet during the week, beautiful on the weekend, I think I can handle that type of pattern. It actuall hit 85 yesterday,80 on Saturday, all in all a beautiful weekend, before we enter another wet period through Wednesday, right now it looks like next weekend looks really nice. Sure would be nice to have these weekends continue into summer.
Hope everyone had a nice Mother's day, family had a nice brunch yesterday.Expecting another busy week, but short week as I'll be off Friday.
Redsox actually have a winning streak going, see how long this lasts.Celtics have one win under their belt against Philadelphia, but they look hobbled, don't know if they are going to work awfully hard.
Sad story of Boston Universty students killed and injured in New Zealand this weekend. 3 dead and one hanging on to live and 3 others severely injured.

Happy Mother's Day

By: NEwxguy, 1:18 PM GMT on May 11, 2012

Happy Mother's Day to all the hard working Moms out there.Probably one of the most taken for granted jobs in the world, but its nice to remember them at least once a year.Probably should be remembered year round.I lost my mother back in 1985,and to this day I wish I had let her know more how much I appreciated everything she did for me.
Going to be a so-so Mother's day around here as it starts to turn unsettle, but shouldn't be a terrible day and should be on the warm side into the 70's.It will be the start of another long unsettled period again for us.Seems like systems are not able to move through our area and get hung up.

Springtime in New England

By: NEwxguy, 1:39 PM GMT on May 10, 2012

Spring in New England is so different from year to year. With the still cold ocean, location close to Canada,it can be the battle ground for Winter and Summer.March,April, and May can shift back and forth between the two seasons.
This spring has been a tale of two seasons. Our winter was much above normal, and we had one of the warmest Marches on record,Then April had some summerlike days, and then May became the month of change. It seems the battle of cold and warm air masses is being waged in the northeast. We have had two days this month where no precip has fallen, and looking at the weekend and next week, there won't be too many dry days either.
We received over an inch of rain last night and down on Cape Cod since yesterday, they have received over 3 inches of rain.
Rain is currently tapering off,and tomorrow the first half of the day should be sunny and mild, but cold unstable air will set off showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon.Saturday looks to be the best day of the weekend, before cold front settles in Sunday and showers return in the afternoon, and right now it looks like next week will stay unsettled, with a front in the area.

Hump day

By: NEwxguy, 3:10 PM GMT on May 09, 2012

Rainy, fairly mild day,and busy day at work.Product week at work, still making decisions on what to do for the kitchen remodeling.I hate this part of remodeling, deciding what color and what materials to use.Trying to decide on quartz,or corian, laminate.Reface cabinets or put all new ones up.
our sports teams didn't come through last night.Redsox continue to look awful.Celtics blew a chance to end this series early.
Another wet day,but heaviest rain is down toward conn. RI, and SE Mass.,but mild day today despite no sunshine.

another round of wet weather

By: NEwxguy, 1:59 PM GMT on May 08, 2012

Well we had a couple of nice days, but not back into the wet weather pattern as a slow moving system with several low pressures systems move through this week. The heaviest rain should be done by sometime thursday morning, but unstable air could produce an afternoon shower or thunderstorm right into the weekend.
Systems this spring seem to get hung up over us,due to blocking in the Atlantic. We need the rain, but would like to see it move in and then out.So far this month,we've seen under 30 percent sunshine.
Redsox finally won a game last night in Kansas City, and Celtics will try to finish off Atlanta tonight.

Monday morning sunshine

By: NEwxguy, 1:51 PM GMT on May 07, 2012

Hope people can get out to enjoy the sunshine today, another extended period of wet weather this week.Increasing clouds tonight and rains moving in by morning. There may be some heavy rains late tomorrow into wednesday and more heavy rains Wednesday into Thursday night. After a warm dry beginning to spring, end of April into May,sunshine has been limited at best, but we still need the rain as we are still carrying a deficit for this year.

one more unsettled day

By: NEwxguy, 1:06 PM GMT on May 04, 2012

A line of strong storms with lots of lightning crossed into western Mass, but as it progressed eastward this morning,it ran into the marine layer here in the east and quickly died out.A brief shower here or there.Still a chance today of a some storms, but they should remain West of Worcester and down into conn. The ocean air is just too stable for storms. This frequently happens in the spring, with storms weakening the closer they get the ocean.
We may even see some sun by late Saturday, and definitely on Sunday into Monday, but we head back into a wet pattern by mid week.Guess its going to be one of those unsettled springs as long as the blocking continues in the north atlantic.

dreary,dreary,dreary

Pretty much the same weather, chilly, sometimes wet,and no sun.Pretty much says it all for this weeks weather, right into the weekend,Sunday we may finally breakout into some sun,but still on the cool side.

New England damp spring weather

By: NEwxguy, 4:59 PM GMT on May 02, 2012

Well,we've experienced much above normal weather most of this year, but we now are locked into our typical spring weather.Since the ocean is still very cold in the 40's,anytime you get a pattern where the flow is off the ocean, you get low clouds cold temps and sometimes spotty drizzle. And this can last over a week.Thats what we are in now.Don't expect much sun especially the closer you get to the ocean.Temps stayed in the 40's all day yesterday with spotty drizzle after the heavier showers exited yesterday morning,we ended up with 3/4 inches of rain.Today, just low clouds and occasional mist, may touch low 50's near the coast,60 inland.Remaining unsettled right into the weekend.

Wet Tuesday

By: NEwxguy, 2:24 PM GMT on May 01, 2012

Couple bouts of mod to heavy showers moving through today, one already passed just before dawn and another moving through right now, should be out by mid-day,but with the flow off the cold ocean low clouds and fog and drizzle wil hang in there right into tomorrow morning.Nice to live near the ocean except in the spring when the cold ocean air tends to cause a clds and damp weather when the wind comes in from the east.
So unsettles around the country depending on where you live ,some chance for severe weather in the northern plains today, looks like to heavy rains have tapered off in south florida.
Blocking setting up in the northern atlantic,so we may be unsettled going into the weekend.
