Winter storm watch

We have a winter storm watch,I guess all that means is they will be watching as this storm approaches,cause they sure can't nail down where the snow is going to be and where the rain/ice will be,so just like all the storms this year,we will have to wait until the day of the storm to be sure.
As far as me here in eastern Mass,I'll be very close to the change over line,so I may end up with 6 inches or 2 to 4,who knows.

First major winter storm of the season.

So it took until the end of Feb. and the start of March to finally get a snowstorm.Everything is set up for a fairly significant snowfall starting Wednesday and through Thursday.Actually dealing with two systems,with Thursday the larger of the two.Wednesday may start as some rain for eastern portions,but should turn to snow.
We have a large high to our northeast setting up to pull cold air into this system,so most areas should be snow.Still a few days to nail down the details.
Strong winds on Saturday caused some minor damage around the area.
Academy awards last night,who would have thought a silent movie would win it all,but then the acedemy seems to like the unsual,not necessarily the fan favourite.

Wind

So some areas have some wintry weather this morning,but only for a short time before it changes to rain by late morning.Conn.and RI and SE Mass. are expecting some heavy snow,but mostly accumulating on the grassy surfaces,my area are just getting a few flurries.Another batch or precip moves through later today with some heavier showers as a cold front moves through.The big story will be the wind after this front moves through this evening,very strong winds after midnight and through tomorrow especially along the coast and over the waters where winds could gust over 50.Some nice weather until mid next week,when another storm system will effect us,and depending on the track will determine rain or snow.The way this winter has gone,it will probably be a warm system.

another spring preview

Another springlike day for the northeast,the warmest day this week is today.Don't be surprised to see some places hit 60.It turns unsettled tonight through friday,with friday the wettest day with a frontal passage and turning colder over the weekend.
No snow in sight for the rest of the month,so we will tie a record for the only two other months ever having only a trace of snow.

ramblings after a 4 day weekend

So that was nice a four day weekend,played a little ,worked around the house a little,ate a little(alot),drank a little,relaxed a little,well,you get the point,it was a nice weekend,nice weather.
So felt like rambling.
1.Our non-winter continues,with 6 degrees above normal at this point of the winter.February looks to go snowless with only a trace of snow.This has only happened twice in record keeping.we are currently tied with 1937 and 1925 for least snowy Februarys with just a trace of snow seen at Logan
2.Our sports teams are a mess.The celtics are mediocre at best and Rondo,is acting like a complete idiot,throwing basketballs at referees.
Our Hockey team that couldn't be beaten in November and December,now cant score a goal.
Our Baseball team,well,we know what happened at the end of last season.Don't know if I can climb on their band wagon,still smarting from that fiasco last season.Another Boston Univ. hockey player arrested for sexual assault.The second in 2 months.Anybody else disturbed by the actions of our college sports athelets across the country.
3. Mardi Gras came to noisy and drunk conclusion last night.
4.Another warm week ahead,after a chilly morning,its temps going up this week,may even hit 60 at some point,the series of weeks hitting at least 50 once or more a week continues.
5.Trying to get myself psyched up for home improvement projects this starting sometime next month,most of us on here no what that entails.I will be redoing my family room and kitchen.Going to try to do some of the work myself on the walls and put in a new drop ceiling.

watching weekend east coast storm

Well,we've been here before.Some models bringing up an east coast system for Sunday,but models have backed off for the moment,sending this out well south of New England,but still early as models flip flop.Again as with all winter,this will have to wait until Saturday to get any certainty,and probaly not until Sunday can we be sure,but if I was to wager this will be another miss.It may brush the south coast and cape cod.
Some rain tonight.No cold air around,so even if that storm moved farther north,I suspect it would change to rain in many areas during the day,just no cold air around to tap into.

Happy Valentine's Day

Another above normal week for us in the northeast.Only precip expected is Thursday night into Friday morning,which should be mostly rain,except in the higher elevations and northern areas,the track as always is a factor.
I will be off Friday and a holiday on Monday,so I have a long weekend ahead,right now weather looks to be quiet,but models are all over the place,so will have wait and see as we approach the weekend.
Another busy day here at work,so will not be here alot,hope everyone has a great day!!!

Whitney Houston,RIP

It was a shocker to hear of the death of Whitney Houston this weekend.Music has always been a big part of my life,since I was young.And through the years I have seen a lot of amazing talents die way before their time.Whitney Houston was a very special talent,one of the best voices I can ever,but she was her own worst enemy,and like so many in the entertainment business,drugs and alcohol brought her down.I hope she finds peace now.
Great tribute from Jennifer Hudson last night singing Whitneys signature song.You could tell she had a tough time getting through the song,but she did a great tribute.
The grammys were fun,some good moments and some not so good,very happy with Adele winning,she is another one with amazing voice,and her first time singing in public since her throat surgery here in Boston,last fall.Some other memorable moments,but bringing back some of the older performers is always uncomfortable.Beachboys was a bad,Glen Campbell was uncomfortable watching him,but nice to pay tribute to them.
Anyway,was having football withdrawals this weekend,as I always do after the superbowl.Start watching our winter sports teams,with the redsox starting spring training next week,with a lot of players already there.Going to be interesting to see how Bobby Valentine is able to motivate some of the spoiled veterans.

Saturday snow event

Well,we are getting snow tomorrow,but like most of the storms this winter,doesn't look like a big deal,as it seems to be tracking too far south to give us a big event,parts of conn. and RI and SE Mass. have the potential for 6 inches and maybe more if it tracks more NW,but for the most part,3-6 seems to be the expected amount and less the further nw you go.As with most storms track is crucial,and where some heavier banding might set up.
Then the artic air comes rushing in for Sunday and Sunday night,and then a gradual warming after that,with above normal temps again by midweek.

winter weekend

There haven't been many winter weekends this year,but this weekend will qualify as one.Latest model runs are bumping the precip amounts for saturday.Beginning to look like a possiblity for several inces in southern and eastern portions of New England,but will have to wait until things develop.Once this storm moves by,then an artic front moves through on Sunday,which will bring below zero wind chills by Sunday night.Cold Monday,then back above normal by Tuesday.Hey,you didn't think we would completely miss winter did you?

winter rollercoaster

For the most part winter has been above norma,but we have had cold fronts some stronger than others.This weekend will feature a very strong cold front.The timing is uncertain,as there may be a low forming along the mid-atlantic coast,and depending on how strong this gets and how quickly it moves past us and how close it gets will determine when the artic air gets in here.It doesn't look like it will have a major impact on our weather except for Conn. Ri, and SE Mass.,but even there it shouldn't be a major impact.Once this low passes,then the door is open for artic air to come rushing in and will probably be the coldest air of the season,but it won't last long as most cold snaps this winter.Sunday and Monday will be the coldest days and by Tuesday we will be back up to near 40 again.

The Day After

Some notes on superbowl Sunday.
1.Disappointing the way they played.
2.Both teams made mistakes,the Patriots made their at crucial times.
3.With 4 minutes to go and Manning getting the ball back,this is what he does best.
4.Will always wonder would things have been different with a healthy Gronkowski
5.Both teams had penalties with too many men on the field,how do you make mental mistakes like this.
6.Half time show was entertaining,nothing spectacular,but Madonna did ok
7. Commercials were mediocre,a couple were ok.
Enjoyed the one with the missing cat and the dog bribing the guy with doritoes to keep quiet.
Animals seem to be the general theme and the best commercials.
8.Indianapolis should be proud,from all the reports,they did a great job.
So football is done for another year and a sour tasted is left in everyone's mouth.
By the way the only place there was trouble was on the campus of the Univ. of Mass. where there was rioting.Always good to see our kids putting their edcucation to good use.Idiots!!!!

Superbowl weekend

After all the hype and all the interviews, and all the super models and all the talk about the last time these two teams met in the superbowl.The day is almost here.Players don't have to talk to the media anymore,which to a man they must be happy about.
We are confident here in New England,but nervous.Coming into this game the Giants have been more impressive,Eli has been playing better.
On all the sports shows,the majority are picking the Giants.
I feel everything that has happened previously is not important.Tom had a bad game against the Ravens,but we still eked out a win.Don't expect Tom to repeat that kind of game,I've never seen anyone more competetive,and he takes bad games personally.
Eli is playing as good as he's ever played in his career,so I don't expect a bad game out of him.The two defenses are playing well,but they are not top notch defenses and they give up yards.The Patriots defense has improved greatly the end of the season and in the playoffs.It will ultimately come down to who makes the most mistakes and turnovers.Should be a very close game decided in the closing minutes.
Patriots 34 Giants 31.

Its groundhog day!!!!

So Phil saw his shadow this morning,so we will see six more weeks of winter.Based on this winter,it won't seem so bad.In fact at this point,February looks to be another much above normal month.
So Phil,go back to your hole,we can deal with this winter.
59 degrees for me yesterday.Back to normal temps today and through the weekend with no big storms in sight,although it may get unsetteled the first part of next week.

Another warm winter day

The day started off chilly,not cold,but after a warm front moves north today,it will jump into the 50's.Pretty much the theme for this winter.
There is a pattern change coming which will get Alaska out of this record breaking cold, and may bring us stormier weather.Will it be more wintery,not so sure,but it make keep us from all this warmth for a short time any way.
We'll see.
My wife's birthday today,and as luck would have it,she comes down with a major cold.With everything in life timing is everything.Noone likes head colds,but on special days,it just seems worse.
Happy Birthday to my lady!!!!
