May 2012 Forecast for the Canadian Prairies

First a look back at April 2012

Over all April was near to cooler than normal with a fair amount of rain and snow in most areas with he exception of eastern portions where wild fires are starting up near cities such as Winnipeg.

Most areas saw one short warm spell with temperatures peaking in the low 30Cs in the extreme southern locales.

Now the forecast for May 2012:
Temp anomalies -5C to 1C of normal
Precipitation anomalies -20mm to 70mm of normal

Overall the month will finish similar to April, with wet and cooler than normal to near normal temperatures.

1-10: slightly cooler than normal, widespread showers and flurries, some thunderstorms here and there

10-20: Chance of a short heatwave, otherwise mild and showery/thundery. Leaf out of trees and shrubs in most areas.

20-31: Very wet and cool, a bit dry and hot in easternmost areas. Torrential rain in Alberta with mountain snows.
