It has been a hot one here in Kansas City for a while. I know we have had our share of them but the last one I remember was in 1994 during my first summer out of High school. Was rather hot working outdoors all summer but some parts of July were insanely hot and we had almost no air movement. Very similar to the current conditions. Except this time we have a lot of water out on farmland due to the Missouri river floods. I have seen readings on various stations hit heat index readings of 120 on a couple of days though the data is suspect as these are usually PWS instead of official ones. I think our average heat index has been between 110 and 115 mostly last few days. Once the heat moves out fully (I hope it doesnt hang around through August, it will be far worse once some tropical leftovers move through). I suspect we will have some landfalling tropical storms at some point during August which will add to our horrible high heat summer. Out of Stater's call the state Misery due to this. I have to chuckle since the south is more prone to heat like this than we are!

Currently I predict that we will have the following:16 named storms10 Hurricanes4 MajorsI also believe we will see 2 perhaps 3 landfalling hurricanes, though I do not expect any majors to landfall in the US.Keeping this blog just to see accuracy. I dont know fully enough to explain how I got these numbers other than general factors such as La Nina, SST's, and A-B high location.
