I am amazed with the warm up we had today, despite the forecasts of freezing cold all week. We went from a cold 21 degrees F last night to a high of 53 degrees F this afternoon. That's a 32 degree warm up over 12 hours. We went from over coat temperatures to tee shirt weather. I know, some of you in the Southern states think we are crazy for calling 53 degrees warm, but when you live here as long as most of us, then you become used to these kinds of temperatures. Actually Minnesotans seem to be able to stand a wide range of temperatures with out missing a step. I'm not really sure why that is, but then how many places do you find people with only swimsuits on jumping into lake water with 12 inches of ice on it for the fun of it.
In case you were wondering, we do cut a hole in the ice before jumping in the water. We have a club called the Polar Bear Club that do this every year. Unfortunately that is a little hard to do when the temperature suddenly rises 32 degrees though it would probably a lot more fun then jumping into water that is at the freezing point for fresh water.
