Blizzard Warning
Statement as of 3:40 PM CDT on March 17, 2013

... Blizzard Warning remains in effect from 1 am Monday to 1 am
CDT Tuesday...

A Blizzard Warning remains in effect from 1 am Monday to 1 am CDT
Tuesday.

* Winds/visibility: sustained winds of 25 to 35 mph... with gusts
up to 50 mph will cause blowing and drifting snow and visibility
frequently down to one quarter mile or less... including near
zero in open areas.

* Snow accumulations: 2 to 4 inches.

* Timing: snow will begin late this evening and taper off late
Monday morning. Strong winds will then develop Monday morning
behind a cold front before subsiding Monday evening.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are
expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds
and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout
conditions... making travel extremely dangerous. Do not travel. If
you must travel... have a winter survival kit with you. If you get
stranded... stay with your vehicle.

NWS Twin Cities, MN

A powerful winter storm will organize and move across the region tonight and last through Monday night. A band of 2 to 5 inches of snow will move from west to east tonight and tomorrow morning. Strong northwest winds of 35 mph, with gusts near 45 mph will develop behind the snow causing whiteout conditions across portions of Minnesota. Eastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin will also have blowing snow, but the worst conditions will remain across the Minnesota River Valley. Looking ahead, it will be cold in the days following this system, with temperatures next week running around 20 degrees below normal.
