I'll update the blog with tropical stuff later. For the moment, I hope no one minds indulging me for a bit as I introduce my new baby grand daughter, Danika Riley Ustianowski. She was born this afternoon at 2:30 CDT and weighted in at 7 lbs 2 oz and 20 inches. Mom and baby are doing wonderfully.

Mom and proud grandparents just before Danika was born.

Everyone is ready for her!

It's ironic that we haven't had rain here in a month or more. As Danika was born, the heavens opened up and it began to thunder and lightning! :-)

All cleaned up!

Mom holds her baby for the first time!

Danika settles down in mom's arms!

Mom and baby are doing fine!

I'll post a tropical update soon!

Thanks,

Randy

Oh, Wowie.... I need to get out more often!

Congratulations, Grandpop! And Grandma! And mom and dad.

Danika is a doll. And I know you're gonna spoil her rotten! Out and out stinky rotten! LOL

I'm glad things have been quiet, so you could enjoy your new grandbaby.

Time to saddle up now, though. You guys and gals fly right and stay safe!

Thanks Randy,

Will they fly through the storms on the way to Hawaii?

...actually after I wrote that, I realized that they would have all the maintenance & other staff with them, so probably not. But they could threaten the passengers with a "little diversion" along the way if they didn't chip in for an aircrew Hawaii entertainment fund. :) heh heh

They could but we sent them out early enough that they were able to land, set up shop and enter crew rest for tomorrow.

Maybe the system is a bit slow! Or it's been so long since I've posted and anyone has commented on my blog that the system had to think about it for a while! ;-)

Who's getting a trip to Hawaii?

khon2 news:
Two aircraft will arrive in Hawaii to help with forecasting.

"The first aircraft that's going to come up is the NOAA G 4 it's a gulf stream and it's a high-altitude jet aircraft so it's not meant to penetrate into the storm," said Tanabe. "What it's meant to do is fly above or fly around the storm and it does an instrument package is attached to a parachute that they drop down and that's to help us to get a better idea of the environment around the storm."

On Friday a C-130 will arrive to assist. The aircraft is commonly known as the Hurricane Hunter.

"Those are heavily built planes and they're actually going to fly right into the hurricane. Those particularly can help us get a real good handle on exactly where the center is -- but also what the maximum wind speeds look like," said Tanabe.

The Hurricane Hunter will fly directly into the eye of Felicia which at mid-day Wednesday was estimated to be 31 miles wide. Forecasters say if Felicia continues its current track it will approach Hawaii late Sunday night or Monday morning and hit cooler water as a tropical storm.

Actually we're not messing around with this one... it's is one C-130, it's 4 C-130s. They departed Keesler today and will arrive at Hickam AFB on Saturday.

We sent 4 aircrews, staff, and maintenance. I'm one of the folks holding down the fort here in case we get tasking in the Atlantic.
