Are you an open book or a private person?

I was talking to a friend just now, and she tells me her stalkerish ex and her crazy family has made her more weary of divulging personal information to people. It made me wonder how private people here consider themselves.

Me personally, I fall under the spectrum of "open book", pretty much down to the letter and quite literally. I'm a little more reserved on telling people my friends' affairs, but that's another issue.

I've never felt a need to hide anything from anyone, even if people hated it, found it weird/creepy, whatever. Nor do I particularly care if what I tell people circulates false rumors about me; it's not my job to curb them unless asked directly.

How do you guys feel here?

Once upon a time, I was a lot more open like you are; but now, after decades of being generally chastised for being a goofy nerd geek, I keep my inner feelings mostly hidden. WU is an exception, as are a couple of other online places that let me be anonymous.

Case in point: the only reason that I was drawn to this blog at all was your avy. I'm going through an anime revival(I used to watch some about 20 years ago), and Haruhi was one of the first series I watched. I lot of it resonated with me, because I've been publically humiliated like Mikuru, and have been railroaded into stuff against my will like Kyon. I also appreciate reading something in peace and quiet, like Yuki. I doubt if any of my coworkers, or even my family, would understand why I would be watching this stuff, so I do it here in my semi-private little shack.

I like the character Haruhi Suzumiya; she can be a totally pushy b**ch, but I admire her indomitable spirit! I could use her cojones sometimes, lol!

Nothing wrong with Haruhi here; in fact, quite the opposite. She just stole the umbrella she and Kyon were sharing, and is making a face at him! As Kori said, that's just Haruhi being Haruhi! :' )

Oh, I also recommend Nagi no Asukara, if you're looking for a good show with very good animation!
Didn't expect to find another anime aficionado on WU of all places. This hast made me most happy!

My son Cody is an avid reader of Anime. He would your pictures' charactor and circle of friends.
So if you will please tell me why is she pointing to her eye? Or is that tears she is welling?

That's just Haruhi being... Haruhi. She just randomly does dumb and random stuff.

But, I just can't go that extra step to becoming completely open. Just can't. I'd probably explode into a million pieces and then combust into fire if I tried...
In my opinion, lack of openness comes entirely from caring about what other people say or think about you (general you, not Nathan you). To me there's just no other way to rationalize reservation of any kind.

But believe me, I know how hard it is to NOT care. It took me awhile. Like the last three months of my life.

Love you, Nathan.

I'm not even sure if the NSA can handle you. Might short-circuit their operating systems if they tried.

You, of course, are an anomaly. That was a compliment.

I don't expect anyone to be like me, because I'm just that anomalous. Closest person to do that is my brother, and he's pretty much admitted he's not quite as open as I am (and he's way more open than the average person, so that says a lot). I've been told I'm one of a kind, and I took it as a compliment. :P

I tried OkCupid for dating once (didn't like it, but I digress). One of the questions on my profile page was "What is the most private thing you're willing to admit?"

My response was "Everything. Just ask." To me, privacy doesn't exist; what I really am might frighten some people, but again, it's not my job to ensure that they like what they hear, so I make no attempts to hide anything about my life. Even if it did, the NSA eliminated that quite effectively, so that only leads to more apathy on my part.

I'm pretty open here on WU...but I still control exactly what I want people to hear.

Which is weird, because I'm a shut and locked book outside of WU.
