Welcome to our Mountain Log Home & Weather Station

Having been born, raised, and retired in Southwest Florida, with family roots going back several hundred years, my Wife and I pulled out in the spring of 2006 and headed to the hills to avoid after a population explosion, high cost of living, traffic, and hurricanes.

My wife and I are both retired from the government public sector, the children are grown, and grandchildren visit from time to time.

Having a long interest in weather and having endured the hurricanes in Florida, I gained a special appreciation of Mother Nature.

We spent our first winter in the mountains, and finding some days just too cold to go outside, in January of 2006 we purchased a mid-level weather station for family and friends to visit our web site, see what is new and what we are doing in the mountains!

The weather station and getting it configured, and internet capable became a pastime with a greater desire to advance the data, we purchased a Davis Wireless Vantage Pro2 Plus, #6163, with 24-Hr Fan Aspirated Radiation Shield. The software used by the equipment is Virtual Weather Station, by Ambient Weather, which then uploads the data from our weather station to Wunderground.com. Storm Predator software is used for personalized radar images.

My wife supports my interest in the weather station, and contributes, through the photos seen on our site. We have been working with various webcams, and software, so that any moment, someone can access the site and see current images or video.

Since establishing the weather station, and web site, we have had many emails from folks in the area, and some who are part-time residents interested in the weather. We have found sharing the data from the system very rewarding by having the opportunity to speak with our neighbors, who we may have never known.

We welcome anyone who has an interest in weather or our area, to drop us a note here, we will enjoy shooting the breeze! We also welcome anyone who would like to share a weather photo, or photos of our area to do so here.

Our amateur weather station is privately owned and operated. Data from the system is not, and should not be considered an official report, as the website and weather station are a hobby for amusement purposes only.

Enjoy!
