Freak wind gust blew down my anemometer mast and destroyed the sensor. Last gust recorded before the event was 60mph. New sensor is on order.

Since this station has been online, I've been using a software package called wview to get data to Weather Underground and CWOP. It's free and I appreciate the effort Mark Teel has put into designing and maintaining it all at no cost.Because I was not happy with the ways it handled some types of data, I decided to write my own data acquisition software from scratch. The differences you'll see are the addition of the UV index and solar radiation graphs as well as a l...

As of this week, weather station data is being sent to the Citizen Weather Observer Program (CWOP). The data will be used by NOAA to improve their forecasting weather models. The data is quality checked using mathematical models and any deviation is noted. So far the data my station is reporting looks good except for barometric pressure. You can expect sudden changes over the next few months as I try to get the instrument calibrated. If you'd like to see the data bein...

I've successfully made the move to a new weather station relay computer. The relay computer is responsible for retrieving weather data from the weather station's data logger and forwarding that info to the Weather Underground where the data becomes public. The new computer is one of these (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NSLU2). I've installed a new debian (linux) operating system and so far so good.During the switch, I adjusted the barometric pressure. You'll notice a sudden...

Over the past several days the station recorded rainfall when no rain was falling. Upon inspection, I found that a mud wasp had begun to build a nest in the station's rain gauge inlet. When rain did fall, it just collected in a puddle at the inlet and drained through the mud into the measurement chamber over many hours. The amount of rain reported is probably low due to evaporation. The obstruction was removed and last nights rain was measured accurately and at the t...
