E-Mail controversy

Well I am new around here. I just wanted to say that I while I have always enjoyed Jeff's blog and website, I don't think he is being totaly honest about the E-Mail controversy. I have read the E-MAils and there are several that obviously indicate the manipulation of facts has occurred. I don't beleive in a master conspiracy theory with Soros and the other weird ideas. However, scientists are empowered by the threat of global warming(They are not unbiased humans who work off of pure reason with no alterior motives) They are making making money and they have increased social status due to the global warming issue.(the same motives as politicians and businessmen) I am not saying they are all greedy evil men. I am sure many or most are wanting to do honest research. However, they are humans like the rest of us- and like the rest of us have to deal with impure motives.(some do a much better job than others) I do sense a power grab in this whole Global warming issue from poth politicians and scientific organizations. I must also comment that Jeff seemed a bit defensive on this issue. Like the rest of us, I think Jeff and other's in the field should do some honest heart searching about their motives. It would make us who are skepticle a little more receptive.

Well I never said he was soley interested in power and money. The fact that he is sought after for his opinion(power) is rather obvious- look at all the posts. He also runs this website with advertisement- The more people that want to read what he says, the more potential $ he will make. I imagine he is wanted for speaking engagements as well. (how do you think Rush limbaugh makes money)

There, I answered as plainly as possible.Whether you agree or not.

In all seriosness, I would like to hear your honest answer. I am not trying to win a debate, it's just that I have a hard time getting an answer from people who want the government to solve all our problems.

By the way- me & my loveley wife have a mini farm. Dairy cow, chickens, fruit trees, turkeys. Pretty much organic. We love trees and dirt too. Just can't join you in the whole worship thing.(I hope you don't offer sacrifieces!)

Helpful tip- NEVER HUG A KAPOK TREE

That was a long post for not answering my question. But thats okay, if you don't want to or don't know, no problem. I will go back to my tree hugging and dirt worshiping and hopefully not infect the world with to much bacteria.:)

calpoppy- Why the exagerated language? When did I ever say Jeff was ONLY interested in power and money. Please read my first post.

However, You need to recant on your statement about coorporations-"They certainly are the ones with the longest history of disregarding the enviroment and everything else"

Please consider:

* Our governements nuclear experiments in WW2
* Our governments involvement throughout the world.
* Nazi Germany, the entire third Reich
* The Roman Empire
* The Bizanteen Empire
* Ever been to China in recent history?
In fact it can said that almost every major tragedy(enviromental, destruction, death) has been caused by governments. They not only develop self serving ideaology, but they almost always recruit scientists/academia to justify there positions. Jeff's recent blog about corporations is so one sided it is scary. Yes, corporations have done awful things. Yes, they have hired Scientists and promotional firms to help there case. But they are a small potato in great big stew of government autrocities throughout history.

Our forefathers were right when they wrote a constitution that limits government. The recent push for empowering the federal government with cap & trade, health care, gun control,etc. really scares me. Governements also have something that corporations don't- authority. They can throw you in jail or worse if they desire.

So I am not saying our governmentand and all governments are evil.(certainly they have been) Its just all this corporation bashing by those who want the governement to step in and take over appears very short sighted to me.

Besides- If we give the federal governement more and more power, someday a conservative(whatever that means) like me might come to power. I might then hire some Psychologists and PR people to explain the evils of tree hugging and dirt worshipping. We could have campaigns and marches to outlaw such primitive practices in our enlightened modern society. Why the scientists could get funding(nice word for hard working peoples taxes) to prove that humans touching dirt and trees causes the spread of unnatural bacterium and will certainly destroy all plant life in the next 20 years.

Calpoppy- How would you feel about the great government savior then? I am not trying to be offensive. I just want to make a point. Unlimited power to corporation isn't good. Unlimited power to governments is far worse.
The more authority we give to Washington is exactly proportionate to the amount freedom we lose.

I humbly request that you recant.

So according to you Dr. Masters is solely interested in power and money. And how is he going to get this power and money? Please explain! And no I don't believe corporations are the only ones that have amoral beliefs. But they are certainly the ones with the longest history of disregarding the environment and everything else for their own greed.

calpoppy- Their motives are the same ones that Jeff accuses the big oil coorporations of having in his post today. Money and power. Do you honestly beleive that coorporations are the only entity that have corupted coorporate enviroment?(pack mentality)

Give a little while to resond to jflorida- However to start with I never used the word conspiracy- I don't beleive that is the case.

Laugh, I understand that motives don't cause melting. The fact that the earth has been warming is not in question. The qustion is it man made CO2 or something else.(A normal cyle, solar flares,etc.) I have read aurguments on both sides. My experience of human behavior led me to the comments I made. The behavior I see and read about at times makes me suspicious. I am also concerned how unwilling some are to question those in the scientific/academins community. Many tend to think that they are somehow exempt from alterior motives that others have to deal with.

Thanks for responding to my 1st post!

I'm not certain their motives are impure. I think they simply passionately believe the theory. Of course, I have been wrong before.

And yes, welcome!
