I think I was motivated toward “The Seven Deadly Sins” by an incident which occurred several weeks ago.

I do most of my reading at the kitchen table and have been doing so since I was little kid. My mother found it annoying, my father (number one Scrooge) thought it was a waste of electricity when I had the light on while reading. He would shoo me into the dining room and tell me to read at the dining room table because I could share the light from the living room. But, I persisted and prevailed over the years. I don’t like the dining room table, it lacks ambiance and quick access to the coffee pot.

Marriage brought on the same questions from my wife. However, my children, especially my oldest daughter enjoyed the concept as a child and still shares my interest in reading at the kitchen table. Over the years I still don’t like reading at the dining room table, nor does my daughter. The one thing that has changed is we occasionally bring our laptops to the table. I leave my old HP laptop on the table all the time. It is sort of a community laptop. If my parents would have lived to see this charade?

Nevertheless, a while back my nifty pharmacy lamp developed a short and cooked the neck wiring. Rather than replace it I went with a “Banker’s Lamp” for the kitchen table. I know what you’re thinking, “tacky”, but it provides necessary light which is soft and makes it easy to read at the table.

My grandson bought a very nice Banker’s Lamp for his apartment off campus at the University. He sent me a snap of the lamp via email to which I replied that I had went for the cheaper version attempting to be conservative while maintaining some beauty with utility. I went on the say that if it was good enough for “Seven” and Morgan Freeman, it was good enough for me.

I skipped through the movie “Seven” on DVD and found the frame showing Mr. Freeman in the library with the tables hosting several banker lamps exactly like my choice. I will have to say my grandson’s is better looking, except I am not too fond of the amber color glass shade.

Strictly by happenstance I have a snap of our kitchen table lamp which was caught for posterity when I took a picture of my grandson and his aunt, my youngest daughter. It is in the background and I was reading a book at the time. I think I was reading, Brothers-Rivals-Victors; good book about my all time hero and idol, General George S. Patton, Jr. The book also covers General Eisenhower and General Bradley. Good reading.

I am attaching the snap of my grandson and daughter. She was here from Colorado just prior to her mother’s death on 1 April, last. She dropped by on her way back to Colorado. I think it was about five days later her mother passed on. My grandson made the 100 mile trek from Purdue to visit his favorite doting aunt. She is every inch the charmer she appears to be in the snap. My grandson is every bit the young gentleman he appears to be, as well.

In summary, I think that was the reason for the “Seven Deadly Sins” post. Plus, it is always good for me to be reminded that ethics alone will not guarantee entry through the Pearly Gates.

I thought a little change might be good, so I went with theology.

On my selection of Wikipedia I may be a little bias because I write to Wikipedia as a contributor. As for NOAA, I am a longtime user of their available data. Both sites rely on contributions to remain active. Wikipedia on private donations and NOAA on taxpayer’s money. Both organizatio...

This morning, via the Internet, I was greeted with an image of a scarred mountain side in Indonesia where a Russian aircraft had crashed. Judging from the image I would say the passengers and crew came to instant finality. Very tragic event and brought to mind an incident which occurred in 1962 when a woman named Sally (I will withhold her last name) took an unauthorized plane flight to Columbia, South America and disappeared for nineteen years.Sally was a neighbo...

Talking About iTablets . . .A few months ago I mentioned buying a Coby Kyros iTablet (iPad for the genetic name) and at that time I said I would report on how I felt about it once I became familiar with its operation. So, here I am with my findings. Keep in mind I am not suggesting anyone follow my lead, just offering my opinion on what I like and dislike about the Coby Kyros.I am attaching a few snaps of the iPad, Coby and Kindle which I mentioned in the first wr...

Updated 5.5.2012 - 4:20 p.m.. EDT_________________________________________________ ___________________________Recently I stumbled upon a large collection of Jazz music which my son converted from vinyl to Mp3 with his magic equipment. I was very pleased at the Jazz find and surprised the man had no idea what he was selling at such a low price. Yesterday, however, I stumbled upon a collection of classical CD’s including nearly all the works of Beethoven, here ag...
