Good Morning and Merry Christmas! At Smithville, MS, the current temperature is 45 and it feels like 45. Highs will continue to range between 42 and 57 with lows between 26 and 41. A Wind Advisory is in effect for North MS until 9am Wednesday morning. Winds out of the Northeast to East at 20-25mph with gusts up to 40mph are expected. Winds will become more northerly tonight. There is a 100% chance of PM thunderstorms on today. Some storms could be strong to severe on Tuesday with the main threats being for large hail, damaging winds of 60-80mph, tornadoes (a few could be strong, long-tracked), heavy rainfall of 2-3 inches, and flash flooding. Timing of these storms across portions of North MS will be from 2pm to 8pm. Dr. Greg Forbes, the severe weather expert at The Weather Channel, is giving a 6 out of 10 on the TOR:CON (Tornado Condition Index) for Central and South MS and 2 out of 10 for North MS for Tuesday. This means that there is a 20%-60% chance of seeing a tornado within a 50 mile radius. At the Regional Rehab Center in Tupelo, MS, the current temperature is 47 and it feels like 44. Todays high is 50 and a low of 34 with a 100% chance of PM thunderstorms/wind. Wednesdays high is 40 with winds out of the Northwest at 25mph.
Now, for your Winter/Severe Weather Update for the Southeast Region. There could be severe weather and winter weather potential around December 24th-27th. Severe weather potential possibly around December 29th-30th, January 2nd, 4th-5th, 2013, and then again around January 8th-9th.
