Good Afternoon! At Smithville, MS, the current temperature is 82, but it feels like 83. Highs will continue to range between 81 and 91 with lows between 61 and 68. There is a 30% chance of isolated thunderstorms today. Slight chance of isolated thunderstorms on Monday and then again Wednesday through Friday. Few storms could be strong to severe with large hail, damaging winds, and heavy rain. At the Regional Rehab Center in Tupelo, MS, the current temperature is 81 and it feels like 81. Today’s high is 85 with a low of 62. Mondays high is 86.
Now, for your tropical update. In the Atlantic, we now have Hurricane Gordon. Winds are at 90mph with a pressure of 976mbars. Movement East-Northeast at 21mph. Is beginning to weaken as it heads toward the Azore Islands and Portugal. Helene has dissipated over Mexico. Also, in the Atlantic, a tropical wave located about 800 miles West of the Cape Verde Islands is producing an area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Showers and thunderstorms have changed little in organization during the past few hours. Conditions appear conducive for a tropical depression to form during the next day or two moves Westward at 20 to 25mph. The National Hurricane Center is giving this system a high chance, 60%, of becoming a tropical cyclone during the next 48 hours. In the Eastern Pacific, an area of disturbed weather associated with a trough of low pressure persists near the coast of Southwest Mexico. Development, if any, of this disturbance will be slow to occur. The National Hurricane Center is giving this system a low chance, 10%, of becoming a tropical cyclone during the next 48 hours as it slowly moves Northwestward.
