Tuesday, April 22, marks Earth Day. As has been my tradition, on Earth Day I share some of my favorite photos wunderground users have uploaded over the past year. The Earth's atmosphere is a fantastically beautiful and complicated creation, and I thank all of you who took the time to share the spectacular things you've seen with the rest of us!

I'll be back Wednesday to talk about the demise of this year's La NiƱa.

Tonight's Aurora (Glacierwolf)
Small aurora that started right at sunset tonight. Stayed just a stream for most of an hour. Hopefully we will see more in the next few days. You can see more Northern Lights photos in my folder here and at my web site www.northpolegallery.com

this evening's quikscat pass showed an elongated and not so well-defined circulation

Weak surface reflection at this point. I noticed the the 850mb vorticity has weakened with a better 700mb reflection.

Yea I notice that too

7% was more than a little bit of shock my first few years out here... Having always lived with 2 miles of a major body of water before this (The Gulf, The Mississippi, The Chesapeake, The Atlantic (both sides of "the pond", as my father was military) it took a lot of getting used to.

Interesting Atmo.

Whole lotta back building going on. The storms are almost stationary even though you can see a steady NNW to SSE flow.

Yikes! 7% rh

I have no concept of that. Lived on Gulf coast mostly. A few years in the Great American Desert around Kansas.

Absolutely weird pattern of thunderstorms here in SE LA and South Miss. Some t-storms moving south, but building to the north faster. Some moving north, some south, some not. Others get a warning only to diminish while another grows stronger nearby. I think the radar algorithms that handle storm motion are well confused.

UCAR radar loop for the last 3 hours (and yes BR did get to close to 70 dBz)

ROFL!!!! True.... We had a humdity of 7% earlier today and have climbed to 10% with sunset. 70% is higher than we get in the middle of our monsoon most of the time....

Small World.... (Gryn) Your weather is sounding a lot like mine right now... Hot, dry, windy, and hazy with thankfully no dust fits Tucson's weather to a T today. Hit almost 90 today here in valley floor, but the wind kept the heat from being too nasty.

The problem is Keeper's # 403 post. He has to edit/fix that comment, so that the weather-tap ''icon'' doesn't appear again.

Pottery, I can't say I'm surprised, since more than half of the cost of gas after production costs is taxes here in the US. Are you in Trinidad or Tobago? The map I looked the co-ordinates up on has you in the middle of the water right between the two islands.... (Silly Google Maps)

Hi Dude. Hot, dry, windy, hazy, here. And no sign of any Sahara dust to date. I think it has been the most dust- free period for a very long time. The air is hazy, but from smoke and local dust. How are you doing ?
