Much Ado About Nothing: Invest93L

Hi, this is Rob Carver, again filling in for Jeff Masters.

Invest93L is still present as of the 8am EDT Tropical Weather Outlook, but I'm extremely doubtful that it will reach even tropical depression status.

Invest93L's presentation on satellite imagery does not project the image of a strengthening storm. Convection, what there is of it, appears to be anchored over the Yucatan Straits and is not following the low-level circulation center. Also, microwave imagery indicates that the convection is weak, with relatively low rainfall rates.

It is worth noting that even if more convection forms after the circulation center moves into the Gulf of Mexico, there isn't much time for the storm to strengthen. By Tuesday evening, both the NAM and GFS 06Z model runs bring a weak front down into the Gulf, raising wind shear to the point that would dissipate Invest93L.

So, after considering the above, it's my opinion that Invest93L is not likely to intensify and will dissipate in a day or so.

Rob Carver

Hiya {{Pat}}!

It did, didn't blow when they thought. There was a crew already there for rotation and they had to get them back down to the states before they were stuck there.

And baha, you are really paying more than that and it's not "free."

Someone is paying for it. Maybe not $3K, but someone is paying.
Yeah, we all pay for it, with National Insurance and out of taxes. But don't Americans have this kind of taxation as well? A lot of Bahamians still go to private doctors - as I said, there are a lot of flaws in our public system that still need to be addressed - but at least it's there to fall back on if u don't have the money.

Sadly, because our government followed US policy rather than European policy regarding chronic and preventative care or major surgery, people often die because they can't raise enough money to pay for cancer treatment or heart surgery. Like I said, not a perfect system, but at least not so expensive.

Hope this helps you all with info on LRandyB, Pat knows me and my family are good friends with him.

Randy was in Guam but never got to fly into any Typhoons while there.

They didn't get to make it to Alaska due to the possibilty of Volcano eruptions.

NOAA and the Hunter's switch off every year. Each winter one team is in Hawaii while the others are in Alaska then they switch the following year.

Hope this helps

Okay, since you're talking Billy Mays, this may shed some light on subject:
Tampa area media outlets reported that Mays was a passenger on a U.S. Airways flight that made a rough landing on Saturday afternoon at Tampa International Airport, apparently blowing its front tires in an incident that left debris on the runway.

Tampa Bay's Fox television affiliate interviewed Mays after the incident.

"All of a sudden as we hit you know it was just the hardest hit, all the things from the ceiling started dropping," MyFox Tampa Bay quoted him as saying. "It hit me on the head, but I got a hard head."

U.S. Airways officials said Sunday they could not immediately confirm that Mays was a passenger.

Born William Mays in McKees Rocks, Pa., on July 20, 1958, Mays developed his style demonstrating knives, mops and other "as seen on TV" gadgets on Atlantic City's boardwalk...

Its very simple in the US if you a unlucky enough to become sick not only do you pay for yourself but you pay for everyone else who can't pay.Plus just tact on 20% for insurance company and 20% for lawyers and don't forget the 200 grand for the doc's education and that about covers it.

A moisture surge associated with a wave along 42W may help moisten the environment ahead of the wave coming off Africa.

Not a doc visit. Hospital. Hospital's are very expensive due to overhead. Doc's aren't too bad.

Just curious, Ike, why ER and not a doc?
I meant what Ike talked about, i.e. the doc looked at u 2x.

I am aware that there is very good health care available in the US, but the PRICE.......

It was the size of a golf ball, on my stomach. It had come up to that in about a week. I called the drs. office but they couldn't see me until the first of the following week.

The infection could have shut my kidneys down. I was on dialysis for 1 1/2 yrs. My kidneys came back 1-1-07.

Too big a risk. They were threatening to put me in the hospital when i got to the ER. Said I was borderline being admitted.

I think it may be time to start to watch this big wave that is emerging Africa. It has a long trajectory filled with hurdles but as 93L is almost dead, lets watch this one.Below is what TPC says in the 2 PM TWD about it.

SCATTERED MODERATE CONVECTION IS FROM 5N-12N BETWEEN 14W-22W AND
MAY BE ASSOCIATED WITH THE NEXT TROPICAL WAVE EMERGING OFF THE W
AFRICA COAST.

I'm looking at the bill right now....

$3,468.00

And that doesn't include the physician fee, which is separate. That will probably be another $600.

Ike I feel lucky when I have to see the Doctor and only pay co-pays, As my Dad likes to say to me don't get old you become a liabilty.

The Tropical Atlantic is fairly dry because of the subtropical tropical ridge and an upper level ridge over the area support subsident conditions. While the wave may be impressive conditions ahead aren't so favorable.

Here a Blog from Hurricane Hunter LRandyB from 30 January this year.

North to Alaska

It's that time of year! Every year in the Jan-Feb time frame the Hurricane Hunters head to the Pacific to fly winter storms between Alaska and Hawaii. We call it the Winter Storm Deployment. We alternate every year with NOAA between Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage, AK and Hickam AFB in Honolulu, Hawaii. On the even years we are in Hawaii and on the odd years we are in Alaska. Well this being an odd year, we're in Alaska. Weather in the Anchorage area has been snowy all this week but it's expected to stop snowing today and simply get cold. Of course, cold in Alaska is a relative term. Forecasted lows starting Sunday when I get there through the week are expected to be near zero with highs in the teens. I've been there when it's been much colder than that but that's cold enough for me!

A good read too.
Randy's blog is always a good read. He's a good writer, raconteur, and wxmaster. Will DEFINITELY do some catchup reading in his blog when I start my break.

I need to remind my Bahamian friends not to complain. A visit to our emergency room for seniors and kids is free; if you work for government, free; otherwise u pay $10.00 to get in, and other fees are often 1/2 what u would pay at a private doctor or lab. I admit freely our system is not the best, and it has many flaws. However, a $4000 tab for a doctor's visit and an IV is not one of them.
