Midway through June Already???

It's June 15th tomorrow and I can barely believe that summer hasn't really even started here, yet. It has been cool for weeks with just a couple of days in the 90's last week. I'm out of school, but still have one more day to work in the library doing some book cataloging for next year.

I bought a tomato plant in a pot with blossoms and a few small, green fruits on it in May. The plant is doing great, but it will thrive more when it gets warmer. Lows at night have been around 50F, so I'm carrying it inside our warm garage before I go to bed each night. Same thing with my petunia hanging basket.

Father's Day this weekend and I just talked to my Dad. He picked up a wood tic working outdoors and it burrowed under his skin and gave him a nasty reaction. He is on heavy doses of antibiotics. The doctors say it isn't the type of tic to cause lyme disease. I certainly hope they are right. Right now I am searching for some tighter fitting UV protective clothing for him to wear outdoors in the sun. He needs the UV protection and also something that fits tight enough to prevent these little bugs from sneaking in.

I see LLBean carries UV shirts, but they are too loose. Anyone have any ideas?? I could shop online and have a shirt mailed to him by the weekend.

You know, I come to your blog and all I see are you snow pictures on the right hand side. You'd best upload some summer ones so we remember we are in SUMMER!

Sandi? any plans for a get away this summer?

Not as yet - I will probably wait until the kids go back to school in September then have a few days away - it will be quieter then! One of the privileges of being a retired person!! lol

Hi Jane - I didn't notice that you reopened your blog! I'm going to reopen mine later this week, or sooner. I want to update my garden pics.

It's been cooler than normal here too, but they say we should have a heat up this week. We might see 80 degrees!

Try, what they call, a rash guard, for your dad. I'm sure they make some with sun protection. Surfers will wear a rash guard under a wet suit for more protection, or sometimes only a rash guard in warmer weather. It just protects the chest from rubbing on the surfboard, but I don't see why your father couldn't wear one when gardening and such. They fit somewhat snug.

My grandsons wear a rash guard during swim lessons just to keep the sun off and keep them warmer.

I had a tick burrow on my neck right at my hairline ages ago. It stung and I told my mom to look to see what it was. When she told me it was a tick I screamed, "Get it out!!!" She did. Gosh, I was probably 12 years old at the time. That was when we lived in the foothills, and tick country. We used to have our dog de-ticked about every month or so during the summer.

We've done the Napa Valley Tour and it was great! It so pretty up that way. There is also our own version of Old Faithful (the geyser). I never knew that. It's much smaller, of course, but goes off on time just like Old Faithful!

I hope you get some better weather so you can get out and explore!

Having coffee in Chicago this morning. Checking the weather because I was planning on doing some walking today. Looks like I may need a new plan with thunderstorm watches and warnings currently posted and I can hear thunder in the background.

If I am indoors for awhile, I guess I will figure out how to get some new pictures here that don't include piles of snow. That icicle is a distant memory. (Thankfully)

Foggy and cool here again this morning. (58F) I plan to get outdoors now that yesterday's rains have cleared. I bought a few annuals yesterday to fill in where others have failed along my front sidewalk. With daytime highs in the 60's those annuals are really struggling.
Hubby and I are headed for Chicago for a couple of days early next week and then we are either going to Montreal to visit our daughter at the end of July or possibly to San Francisco wine country. We have always wanted to visit the Napa Valley region where they grow wine grapes.
How about you, Sandi? any plans for a get away this summer?

One last party and it is all over for another year!

Summer was so short last year here, but this year we have been warm since the middle of March, it seems to be going on for ages... and still the warmest months of July and August to go!

Enjoy the vacation - any plans for getting away?

June 15...and I'm getting ready to head out for my last official (paid) day in the library. Cool and cloudy here this morning (58F) with a chance of showers this afternoon.

Got the deck washed yesterday and the can of stain is sitting here on the counter. It will likely be too wet to work on it this afternoon. Trying to get it done before the predicted heat wave next week. The power washer did a good job of removing the dirt, pollen and some old stain. Looking forward to a newly stained deck to sit on when our pool is finished being repaired. Summer is short here in Michigan - gotta get going on all of this!
