Jane, thank you for the sympathy. In this household we don't do sick. Especially if it's me. Hubby convinced me to take Non-Drowsy Allergy Relief-D CVS special. He swears by it. Ok, so now I feel like I am floating about two feet off the ground, but I don't care about my cold. So just pump me full of pills and throw me on the couch. I don't know what will happen when I need to sleep....humm.......may be up for the entire MSU game. Hey, the Big Ten now has two wins, Penn State and the other school OSU.

Enjoy your day! Off to clean out the fireplace. I am going to float over in that direction.

Have a happy school Monday!

Happy New Year, Jane! Did you get a peek at the blue moon last night? I was thrilled - a front cleared things for just a bit and I got to see it.

Best wishes for 2010!

Jane, I hope you are having a fun vacation. Do you go back to school on Monday? Our kids do. Our UCF kids still have one more week. I can't believe Christmas has come and gone. Tomorrow all our outside lights are coming down. All the love and caring getting things ready and now it is all over for another year. I just love the sparkle. I am going to put little lights on something in my house. Sure don't know what that is going to be. Have a nice NYE and I hope 2010 is the best year ever :)

Hi Jane,

Yeah, I ponder what we did before the Internet too. Read more for sure (although I still do a lot of that), exercised more, played games more, conversed more....but darn the Internet is just so helpful.

I never got to the planning that I wanted to do today. Had to head back over to my mom's - her sink was acting up again. If it doesn't clear up she's going to have to call someone. It's draining MUCH better - but still backing up a bit.

Then my youngest and I headed to Costco - filled up the car, got some groceries for my family and my mom. We stopped at the beach on our way down as the high tides and high waves came over the sand berm they build every year just for these occasions. I posted some pictures in my blog.

I think I requested to be your friend on FB - let me know if I got the right Jane!!!

What did we do before the Internet?????

We were just talking about this earlier today! My sister has been stuck in the house for three days, she can get out and walk to the shops, but just is afraid to take out her car. She has a small, lightweight, powerful sports car, and on the frozen, packed snow it is a lethal weapon!
Being able to connect to her work has kept her sane.

I suppose we used to read, play cards, family group games, listen to the radio, play a musical instrument... and even go to bed earlier!! LOL (Which is where I should be going soon!)

Snow, snow and more snow. It appears Saturday night's 12 inches wasn't enough. It has been snowing ever since. It just keeps piling up. The wind brings the cold air over the warmer waters of Lake Michigan and POW...lake effect snow piles up on us.
It is kind of a waste of vacation days. Can't really go anywhere or do anything on snow packed roads. Too nasty to walk. Good thing for WU and Facebook to keep me connected. I also have webpages to work on for my computer class and library at school. Time to accomplish indoor pursuits.

Woke up this morning to 12 inches of new snow. We really didn't see this one coming. It was snowing very lightly as we returned from our final holiday gathering last night. Over night I peeked out and could see the trees gathering snow on the branches. Our patio table on the deck now has a good 12 inches on top of it. I guess this will be a day to rest, relax and be online. What did we do before the Internet?????

Hi Jane,

I'm so sorry I had to leave our chat so abruptly. Maybe we can plan one again this week? Got my mom's clogged sink resolved only to have another mini-emergency in the family. All is well now, but it took me out of the loop for a few days.

I'm tuckered silly from all the visiting, eating and especially overdosed on the sweets. I think a better work out schedule must be in my future.

How was the visit with your family? How is the weather now? We were warm on Christmas Eve and Christmas day, and now today it's rather chilly out.

Hubby is smart and is reading and resting on the couch....me? I'm here trying to read and catch up - but I feel like I could use a nap too!

Light snow falling this morning. We are headed out about 60 miles to celebrate Christmas with my side of the family this afternoon.
I took a walk to Lake Michigan yesterday afternoon and enjoyed the sound of the waves lapping against the sandy beach. It felt mild at the water's edge.
I used the camera timer to take a quick picture. Greetings from what one of my friends call, "The Freezing Beach." (She was visiting from the south and didn't really know a beach could be freezing.)

Hi Jane,

You must still be gone. Do you think you can do a chat with Sandi tomorrow? I'll outtie email both of you.

Sounds like you had the same kind of exciting last day of school as I did! Only difference is I don't work on Friday, so avoided all the classroom parties. They ARE fun - but exhausting!

Hi, Jane,

Thought I'd post a reply here first so you might see it more quickly. The kitty who's gone missing isn't my beloved Dixie Rose, who's safe at home, but Calliope, the outdoor kitty who's the sort-of-stray. She's been shared by everyone, so we have a whole neighborhood a little upset by her disappearance.

I do think there's more to the story than I can tell, because I found a tiny Christmas ornament floating in her water bowl. Who knows what that's about? I'll get a pic of it in my blog later.

So your kiddos may get an extended vacation, too - I think I saw you mention that somewhere. Ours are already out - Friday noon was dismissal, and of course they don't go back until after New Years.

Beautiful sunshine today and for the next few, then rain and cold again. That's ok - it's our version of a white Christmas! Enjoy the coming week - you may me start thinking about white bean soup!

Fresh snow and 32F today. Made cookies and candy for Christmas and took a long walk to see Lake Michigan. It was beautiful with the waves coming in and fresh, light snow falling. The sea gulls were playing along the shoreline and it was very quiet - no wind.
Headed north to Crystal Mountain to go skiing, snowshoeing or ???? Not sure yet what we will find! A parent of some of my students loaned us their 3 bedroom condo. I am really looking forward to a mini vacation. My sister and her boys are going with us. Should be a lot of fun and laughs together. I will take my camera!
I wish everyone a very, Merry Christmas. I appreciate all of your friendships!

29 and cloudy. Cruising toward the last day of school tomorrow before break. All my students will be in holiday parties, so I will get things done if I don't take time out for too much merriment. I am looking forward to attending a few of the parties and taking some pictures around the building. A fun day is planned for all!

I won a free night at a ski resort about 2 hours north of us. I don't ski, but it looks like snowboarding, skating and snowshoeing are all options. We invited my sister and her family to go along, so there will be 6 of us on Monday night. Looking forward to the mini get away before the holiday rush begins next week.

"My mother keeps giving me the eye - my Christmas list is mostly kids' books! LOL"

I must admit I went through a phase of reading mostly books written for children.,.. but if they are well written, why not!

Hi Jane,
I hope the snow stays away, at that temperature -14f - we would say "it's too cold to snow!"

Actually, I saw a TV documentary about these old sayings, and apparently it is never too cold to snow until it reaches absolute zero! (minus 459F ) ....Ouch, that sounds cold!!!

Morning, Jane,

Breakfast this morning was a bowl of "real" oatmeal with a huge dollop of Michigan cherries - sour cherry "spoon fruit" from American Spoon Foods in Petosky. I'd ordered some things for Christmas gifts and treated myself to some of their cherries - a little taste of sitting in the tree and eating myself silly as a kid.

I love them in yogurt, or on pancakes, or over anything chocolate. The best dessert ever might be homemade meringue shells with dark chocolate ice cream and warmed cherries. Ymmmm....

Guess I'd better stick with my oatmeal, though.
This is no time of year to start obsessing over desserts - although I may have just figured out what we're having Christmas day!

Yesterday I heard an interview on NPR about Alastair Reid's Ounce, Dice, Trice. This is another one that's new to me - I can't wait to get my hands on it. My mother keeps giving me the eye - my Christmas list is mostly kids' books! LOL

Hi Jane, son had no trouble getting in and out of Grand Rapids. He had the most problems in Cinn. Today he is headed for LaGuardia back to Columbus back to LaGuardia and then to Windsor Lockes in Conn. He has a three day trip and then home for three and another three day trip and then he will head here for Christmas. Alot of flying prior to a nice vacation here. The end of Jan he is going to Australia for the Australian Open. This will be an interesting trip. He will fly non-rev the entire way. Oh, to be young and foolish again :) Hope you aren't up to your tummy in snow.

Lots of people were out shopping today and the weather co operated nicely. I shopped for groceries and for a new book to read during library time this week before Christmas break. I bought The Gingerbread Pirates. It was recommended to me by some librarian friends of mine. I am not sure it suits my taste in holiday books, but it will be something new and different for the students. Last week, I read Gingerbread Baby by Jan Brett and they loved it.

We went out for an early dinner this evening and admired all of the Christmas lights in the yards and homes along the way. The snow on the ground makes them more reflective than last week. I didn't see as many of the crazy "blow-up" statue type of yard decorations. There were more of the classic strings of lights. The classic strings around the pines are beautiful.

2 snow days are behind me and it looks like it is back to school on this Friday. The wind has been blowing and gusting all night, but there is little new snow accumulated on the ground. With a temperature of 14F, it will be awhile before we see anything but white.

The students will be anxious to return. They told me they were "bored" over Thanksgiving break. Christmas break begins one week from today, so lots to do before that time. I have a ton of Christmas books to circulate in the library and I will be behind on my Christmas stories for the kids.

My niece is in Copenhagen attending the meetings. Ricky Rood from Weather Underground is part of their delegation. I will post a few pics she sent from there this week.

The local weatherman predicted 20-30 inches of snow for us on Tuesday night through Wednesday night. That is a ton of snow at one time for us!

Teachers are already planning for the snow days. Cookie baking will be on my agenda. We will see. It would be a storm to remember if we really get big snow totals like that.

Hi, Jane,

Thanks for stopping by my place. I got such a kick out of your comments about our snow. You sound like a grandma - the snow's ok to have around and play with for a while, but you're more than happy to send it on its way when you're tired of it!

What a great opportunity for your niece. Will she have a chance to do some other traveling while she's there? Is she pursuing a graduate degree now, or content to be a full-time employee?

Apparently we're in for some days of rain. I wasn't pleased about the cold, but I'm less pleased about this. No work until it clears off, and this isn't the time of year to lose work days - there are so few daylight hours I can't make up what I lose. Sigh.

Hope your week is great. I guess it's time for me to get cracking with my Christmas stuff, huh? LOL
