I am a teacher and I enjoy living along Lake Michigan. It is a beautiful place that makes me feel like I am on vacation all year long!

I am remembering all of the days this summer that were all the same: sunny and warm with blue sky. I am glad that I can close my eyes and still picture that beautiful weather we enjoyed for weeks upon weeks. Now everyday is cloudy and dark, just like it always is along the lakeshore here in Holland. I walked over to the lake yesterday afternoon. I was able to go in my heavy jacket, hat, mittens (2 pair) and tennis shoes! The lightweight shoes on my feet made up for the light rain falling on my head. Lake Michigan was gray and the waves were rolling in from the southwest. The air over the lake is mild since the water temperature is higher than the air temperature.
I tried to look for signs of life. There are still a few patches of green grass that I guess were buried under the recent snow. I noticed a few turkey tracks, but didn't see much sign of anything, not even the squirrels. A woman crossed the street to pick up her mail and a grandmother was meeting her two grandchildren at the school bus, but in 40 minutes that was about all there was to see. A few cars rushed past on the street. the cars were mainly people coming home from work or service trucks. It is much different than in the summer when I would see landscaping rigs and tourists with out of state license plates on vacation.
