By protocol the CnC isnt required to Salute the Tomb of the Unknown,.
The Attending Army Officer is the Presidents Military Escort for the Ceremony.

He Salutes the Tomb at the Drum Roll preceding the Playing of Taps.
Most place their Hands over their Hearts.
As President Bush does here Memorial Day 2007.

As the CnC ..he and other Presidents Salute their Air Escorts into the Marine One Helo or Air Force One.
That's a Courtesy Salute to a Service Rendered.

The Wreath Laying is the Only Protocol.

Saluting is not required at all...nor expected.

I as well I have a dear friend of mine that her son has been in the air force all of his life fighting for our country and just last year 2 yrs of his retirement he had lost his eye and his wings to fly again. Every time I hear a story like that it just brings a tear to my eye and a tear of the heart. My sister was in the Reserves and did her training at Fort Dix.

Last year when spathy & I went to DC we spent almost 3 day just going through Arlington Cemetery ( his grandparents are there). I enjoyed every min of the time we spent there and visiting all the different areas of Arlington.

I will say I was saddened by our President to day. I saw the news today and he was placing the Wreath at the Unknown Grave and I have to say I have never saw a President not salute the grave until today. That just took my breath away when I saw that.

Believe me, I have people over there in Iraq, Guam and soon to be Afghanistan, and I want them ALL home. I don't normally party at all on these days. I have friends who have returned home from those places completely crazy. And I'm not joking. It's sad and it's hard on all of us that love them. Jathan, a friend of mine had his wife leave him over his ordeal. It's sick what war does to families sometimes. But I support them all and pray for them most of all.

Thanks for the great post Brooke, Every day I say to all the ones that have kept us free and the ones that didn't come home. If it wasn't for them we would not have the freedom we have today and let us not forget this day is for them not to just party but to say THANKS to all of them and pray for a safe return home.

Adding my thanks to the people of this country who have fought to keep it free and to those who are still fighting to keep it free and to those who will be going to war to keep it free!
